My boyhood friends' dad took us deer hunting when I was around 13. He had several surplus military rifles. His 03 Springfield was the first high-power rifle I ever shot. I was proud of the red and purple bruise on my shoulder. lol

I just read the autobiography of a crew member of a B-17 that was shot down on its way to Berlin on March 8, 1944. He was a radio man and survived as a POW in Germany. He was 100 years old when he passed February 2024. He was the father to the wife of one of my work associates. HIs plane was the named, "Sleepy Time Gal". His name was Wilburn C. Rowden from Missouri. Shot down a little over 80 years ago.

Anyway as for the younger group not knowing the bill of right or constitution well it all starts in school and home. Schools do not teach anymore and parents, not sure assume to busy working? The advantage of lever action is rapid fire from peak and hide concealment. Chappy said "never be a bump on a log". LA = 6 lb , and dmr = 10 lb. Light and mobile from concealment. I enjoy every Sunday.

I have my Grandpa's Springfield. I still take it for a hunt every year on nice days. It's sporterized with open sights. I've shot 3 doe and 1 buck over the years. It's been making meat for the freezer for a long time. I think he bought it around 1935. And he got probably a couple tons of venison with it.

There's just something about a firearm that you have to work, that really excite's me. Rather you're working the bolt, lever, pump or busting your thumb on a single action, it's well worth it.

I have a 1903 Springfield Mk1, which has the cutout in the receiver for the Pedersen Device. Shot my first bull elk with it in 1960 at the age of thirteen. It was a 25 yard shot as I was still hunting and got that close before we “detected” each other. I spotted him bedded down, chewing his cud. When I clanked off that noisy safety, he jumped to his feet and stood looking at me. My dad was about 50 yards to my right and yelled, “what are you doing?” He didn’t see the elk and it dropped in its tracks. He thought I had an AD.

A lack of knowledge on the subject of the 1st and 2nd Amendments is a problem, and a lack of ability to actually see what is happening within our government is a direct consequence. Knowing History is key. Makes me wonder what is NOT being taught in schools these days.

I feel your pain on large vehicles. I have been driving F 350 Crew Cab Superdutie's 8ft bed since 1996. They fit ME and I need a 8 ft bed. They are a pain in newer parking lots, but worth the hassle. Great video, as I am becoming more and more interested in the WW! & WWII firearms.

I read an interview where the person being interviewed was a Marine scout during the campaign in the Pacific during WWII. He carried a 03. While in advance of his unit he came under fire from the Japanese troops. He said that he had a bolt action rifle in machine gun war.

When I see a 03 springfield I think of our American legion on memorial day. They get them out once a year and fire a salute (blanks of course) clean them up and put them away for another year. I hope they always keep them. It seems appropriate.

I'm 23 and have lived around guns for much of my life and though I don't shoot much now I'm looking at getting my first handgun soon. I'm in a diverse group of friends and good portion of them are pro 2nd amendment. Suffice it to say, there are young people still see guns as worthwhile and I don't think they're going away soon, or without a fight.
