This Sago Pudding with Gula Melaka is Roland's childhood dessert. He made this yummy dessert to celebrate Mother's Day with his Mom last week. As he and his sister were eating the pudding, the both of them took turn to say "oh this is the taste - yes this is the taste" 😂 I didn't understand the hooha with this simple pudding until I took the first mouth. It was simple and yet delish at the same time. How can something so simple be so yummy?

Ingredients
Serves 10
400g sago
6 pandan leaves
300g of gula melaka also known as palm sugar (can be reduced to half)
1 cup of water to be boiled with gula melaka (cut to half if gula melak is halved)
500ml of coconut milk or coconut cream (can be reduced to half)
1 cup of water to be added to coconut milk (cut to half of your coconut milk is halved)
1 teaspoon of salt (cut to half if your coconut milk is cut by half)

I tried this n it was delicious. The main reason why it was delicious was that the breakdown of your palm sugar ratio to the water was perfect. It was of the right gula melaka texture. Thanks again for this wonderful recipe.

This is a huge part of my childhood in Penang, there is nothing in this world as delicious as this on a hot day. Here in the UK for years we couldn't get any Pandan essence or flavouring now we can and I am in heaven. You make the same way as our cookie did, poor thing used to have us pestering her all the time about when it would be ready!!

Thank you for this life saving recipe! I live in DC and I have made this twice to introduce people here to Malaysian desserts and it has been a hit every time. Really yummy, thank you. I changed it slightly though...I added about 4 tablespoons of cream n a dash of vanilla essence along with the coconut milk. I also added some chopped peach as garnishing. My mom liked it...

I’d add a scoop of coconut ice cream to the pudding to make it a cool refreshing dessert on a hot day.

I don’t have palm sugar and is not available here so can I use jaggery instead for this recipe??? And also can I skip out pandan leaves for this recipe????

Hi! Yes you may replace palm sugar with jaggery and omit pandan leaves.

Wash the sago in a colander before boiling them, this will help it to cook quickly and evenly.

Approximately and about are redundant. About 4 mins. Approximately 4 mins. Not both together. Drop the word approximately from yr instruction. It is just bad English.
