a interesting fact about american mario 2 though? it actually WAS mario 2. Not so widely known was that when mario 2 was in development, before Myamoto was the man that could do no wrong in the company and had complete creative control, he origonally wanted to make mario 2 vastly different than the original. but then nintendos owners went "no, more of the same game that was super successful" thus his origonal work on mario 2 was scrapped. BUT was reused for Doki Doki Panic. so in a round about way we ended up getting the real mario 2 over here. Look it up!

That is actually really cool that the developers thought about that on earthbound. You have a full inventory and buzz buzz just gives that last item to somebody else to keep. That was very thoughtful of them. They probably noticed the problem when they were testing the game and finding an error constantly happen every time they tried to get through that part when they filled up their inventory. Even though I feel like the odds of having your inventory full that early in the game are pretty unlikely

8:31 I'm not sure if this is a correction or whatever, but there is an NES style version of "The Lost Levels" if you consider "Super Mario Bros. Deluxe" for the Game Boy Color. However, in that version, not only is it still confined to the dimensions of the GBC, it's also missing worlds 9 through D. Don't know if this counts, but I figured I'd mention it because it's basically an NES skin of what we got.

Whilst talking about FF6 censorship, Kefka's curse toward Edgar, "son of a submariner", was a way to censor the line, "son of a b*tch". The GBA uses the uncensored version, and it's kinda disappointing because "son of a submariner" is so much more amusing. Also, I'm not sure if I'm misremembering, but that mid-battle dialogue betweeen Terra, Edgar and Locke in the Figaro escape section can be triggered later if you don't use Terra's magic in that fight.

I don’t know if I’m resentful or secretly happy for not having a SNES as a kid. On one hand, it’s a pity that I missed out on becoming completely familiar with so many great games, but on the other hand, NOT having access to them gave them a mystique and enigmatic quality that I wouldn’t trade. 7:15 Nope this is a false myth. Doki Doki Panic was a reskin of the in development Super Mario Bros 2 after Nintendo made a licensing deal to make a game using a Japanese media company's mascots. They had already been making the Mario sequel long before the licensing deal. Myamoto even said in an interview once that they wanted to experiment with vertical scrolling after the first game only scrolled horizontally, which influenced the game's design. It was only after they'd started working on the third game that it was decided to release some cut content from the first game in Japan as a numbered sequel so SMB3 wouldn't have to be renumbered in different regions.
@garymcnabb2 жыл бұрын
My last comment was deleted I'm assuming because I included source links to external websites, but Doki Doki Panic wasn't a reskin. Aside from being on a different platform, there were a bunch of differences between DDP and SMB2. The lost levels also wasn't just cut content, the levels were based on the arcade game Super Mario Bros. Vs. The reasoning given for going with a completely different game was that it was both too hard, and not different enough and may alienate western audiences from the franchises. Essentially the same dev crew worked on all three games though (SMB2, DDP, SMB2LL). You are correct that Miyamoto wanted to explore vertical scrolling, and a prototype was shown to him which became the basis for DDP using Mario assets, so an argument could be made that DDP started development as a Mario game, but according to the information that I could find (statements and interviews with Miyamoto and Kensuke Tanabe) the prototype wasn't engaging enough and shelved until the ideas could be retooled into Doki Doki Panic. I wouldn't call it a false myth, more a murky misunderstood one. Information is out there, but it's difficult to pin down an exact timeline and over time the origins of these games have become distorted.

As a black American, dance appearance is not offensive
@modell10842 жыл бұрын
@Marc Carran so instead of having any representation it’s better to have none? I highly doubt any black person would think that’s racist. Rather, someone else decided it was racist for black people with no input. Like pokemon jinx, mr. popo from dragon ball. I’ve never known any black person that has ever complained about these depictions. I find it more racist that someone else decided something for me.
@modell10842 жыл бұрын
@Marc Carran there are a ton of characters with similar designs that get a pass but assuming it’s all just black face is racist in itself. I think the PR team that was behind this game’s distribution assumed it was offensive, assumed it a play on blackface , without having asked or taken a consensus. When you can look at it honestly, and it could have been a design of a black person from a naive Japanese person. If they didn’t change it, they would get real feedback from actual black people enough to improve black peoples appearance in Japanese content. It’s naive to assume these companies actually do research for what people actually think. At least back then. So then it becomes. Someone that’s not black explaining something’s racist because look at it. So if black people actually have larger lips, then is ir racist or accurate? Or the combination of dark skin ,lips, instantly racist? You can’t have a dialogue if you just assume something and take it away.
