you know, i really think the real reason why ego is filled with hatred is he can't cook, food is such an important part of his life that the frustration of not being able to cook made him tear Gusteau apart because he claimed "anyone can cook" and the frustration that he can't recreate his dead mother's signature dish killed him everyday coz that's the only thing that made him connect to her............ just saying.

I work at a celebrity chef restaurant in Las Vegas. Anton Ego isn't really a strange character. There are many critics that have vendettas against individual chefs or companies. There is a common feeling that celebrity chefs cheapen the artistic purity of cooking. So will have a special animosity towards the mainstream. Now think about how a food critic makes money, through their audience. They must supply content that their audience want. Sometimes it's a bloodbath. Think Simon Cowell, ppl love when he tears ppl apart, boos when he's being unsympathetic, and rally behind him when he loves something. As a whole ppl see Simon as a cold uncaring person, but value his approval. I think Anton is a very similar style food critic

Ben Lutostanski no, Ramsey's LV restaurants really have little to do with him. They only license his name and he's paid to do a certain amount of appearances. He doesn't have any input on the menu.

I took it as the old lady being anton's auntie. After his mother died , with no husband to look after the house and anton away reviewing restaurants in Paris, the mothers sister moved into the house. I also think it's more likely that the house is the same house but just with the furniture and everything else moved around, afterall it would probably feel a bit weird living in your dead sisters house, let alone it being exactly the same as how she left it. However , not wanting to completely remove the traces of her sister, she kept some of her stuff, including the kettle and basket. Auntie cold also be unmarried or a widower, this would explain the portrait of the Anton-esque head, seeing as she no longer has a sister or husband and her parents are presumably dead, anton would be one of if not the sole remaining relative of the women, causing her to care very much for him.

And finally I think that the cooking channel is explained by her simply wanting to be reminded f her passed away sister who would cook all the time when she lived there and possibly also reminding her of their mother who presumably taught them to cook in the first place.

Ah, yes! I like that theory; it makes sense with both the setting and the timeline. You know, I think there could also be another connection between these two just shown in their characters. You get the picture that Anton Ego is quite alone. He's not married; he doesn't seem to have any friends - the attendant who showed him the newspaper was obviously quite afraid of him. This seems the very portrait of a man who has cut himself off from the world, which could indeed be because of grief. So how often do you think he might have visited his aging aunt, presumably the only family he has left? Not a lot. This woman's been living alone, just like he has. Her isolation from the world could contribute greatly to her senility. Because she does seem a little out of her mind. I mean, she tried to kill a rat WITH A RIFLE. That's not smart! She tore up her house in the process. Granted, she was old. But it would seem fitting if she alone, without any family to speak of and thus left to her own insanity. Or, that is, she just has an anti-social goth nephew.

Makes much more sense if the old lady is his mother. He wouldn´t declare Remy´s food the best in Paris, if it was copied from his grandmother in your scenario. It would undermine the importance of his mother´s food, because his grandmother´s food would taste very close, but not actually the same. However, if the old lady was actually his mother everything makes more sense. The age difference is more probable and his reaction to Remy´s food and what it reminds him of seems more natural. The death imagery doesn´t necessarily mean literal death, but maybe the death of his ideals. Maybe he became egotistical after his reviews were successful and was much more concerned with nitpicking than being fair. His mother wouldn´t be happy about that and maybe it lead to a big argument, which caused them to go their separate ways. This would make Anton Ego even more bitter and harsh towards cooks, because he no longer had access to the food he loved above all else

There's really ONE BIG issue with the theory (It's been a while I watch the movie so maybe not that big) , Ego's mother didn't live in Paris, she lived in a rural era. Been a French person myself I can assure you that the closest rural era (like the one in the movie) is more than an hour away from Paris. So the mother couldn't be "the greatest cook in Paris" because she wasn't in Paris.

I mean yeah, physically and disciplinary and training wise, she is much more fit to be it. but the dragon warrior isnt just about being trained, its about philosophy, about how you view yourself, and the world around you. po has a more compassionate, innocent, and heroic view of the world, whereas tigress views ninjitsu as a way to become more powerful and to gain popularity and to defeat the bad guy(I forget his name, but you know who I'm talking about) but po views it as a way to better himself and the world around him.

+Isaac Luna Yes, but as these movies had made it seem, she has been learning this too. As shown by her hugging Po, and showing compassion though, even though all she cared about was herself at first. Also, let's not forget about the Stripey Baby thing. I'm at least 90% sure that if that Tigress was the same Tigress at the beginning of the series, she probably would have ignored that child and scoffed. In fact, I bet you she wouldn't have even went on to warn the Panda Village if she was the same. She probably would have tried to fight Kai herself, and lost. I dunno, it seems that the moral that the first movie was teaching is kinda rubbing off on Tigress. I doubt my theory is actually true, but it's an interesting thought nonetheless.

Has any one seen the Simpsons episode where they become food journalists and go to a science place where they use science to make food and homer is late and gets wrong address and ends up at a bad guys house but Marge tunes up before homer is killed and throws a small disc of compacted Apple pie but I think it is a reference to this because when the disc is thrown into the bad guys mouth he has a flash back exactly the same just with apple pie and becomes a good guy.

I did a bit of quick research on Wikipedia about the history of saffron, and for a while in the 17th and 18th centuries it was a popular crop in France. It was mostly grown in southern regions, though some areas in the north (around where Paris is) like Normandy grew it as well. The 18th century also eventually saw the death of saffron production in most of France (except the in the south) due to a combination of quickly-spreading fungi, competition overseas, and cold winters. So saffron might have still been grown in this area, just not for any (or at least any major) financial gain. Heck, saffron crops in the north could have been considered heirlooms in some families; as it was (and still is) considered a "rich" spice, poor families that managed to keep even a pot of saffron growing through the years probably cherished what little could be harvested, or even just the fact that they owned something expensive at all. Given this, there is a possibility, small as it may be, that Ego's ancestors somehow maintained a crop of saffron long enough for his grandmother and mother to be able to use homegrown saffron in their dishes rather than spending a lot of money on commercial spice or just going without. The vial of saffron at the beginning of the movie that Remy tries to take doesn't appear to have any labels on it. It's possible it could have contained a cheaper spice and Ego's grandmother wanted to reuse the vial to hold saffron, removing the label to avoid potential confusion with newer vials of the cheaper spice. Poor people do tend to reuse old containers, speaking from experience. All this said, it's not 100% impossible for Ego's grandmother/mother to have used saffron, thus influencing his preferred tastes. I realize I'm grasping at straws here, but I really like the point Claudia brought up and wanted to see if there was any way it could work somehow. Also, I'm not a botanist-historian, so I can't guarantee anything I said is undeniably factual. I'm just looking for and making connections, as we all are.

We don't really know how old Ego is but my guess would be he's in his 50's. His mother in the memory looked quite young, she could easily gave birth to him early in her life, when she was 18-20. This age was not unusual back in the day, so it's not difficult to imagine her mother would have her at similar age. So to conclude: Let's say Ego is 55, his mother could be 75 (alive) and her mother 95. And I'm not taking teenage pregnancy into account. Ego's grandmother would be ancient but not necessarily dead.

Don't think it can't be his grandmother just based on age. Even if Anton was in his forty's, the little old lady can be in her late eighty's to mid-ninety's making it possible that it is his grandmother. Again it all depends on when everyone was born too and if Anton's mother had any sisters. I am not willing to put Anton above his forty's because he doesn't seem that old.Also, I am still willing to go with the fact that it can be his grandmother. I had a great-grandfather who died when I was twelve, fourteen years ago. My grandpa, his son, was in his sixty's (now his seventy's and is still alive), my dad, his grandson, who was in his thirty's now in his forty's, and my sister and me (his great-granddaughters) along with several others go down to West Virginia for my great-grandfather's funeral.Please don't think I am saying anyone is wrong for thinking it is someone else in the family. It is possible that could be his aunt. Who knows, it could have even been a friend of the family who raised him after his mother died. A close enough friend that she could have had some recipes given to her by the Anton's family and did not want to see him in an orphanage. The reason I say that is because when I growing up some of our recipes came from close family friends and some of them would have taken me and my sister in just to keep us out of foster care.Just saying that somehow that little old lady is connected to Anton we just don't know how for sure, yet.
