I just found your channel, thank you for your freely given advice. I am most grateful. I am a soon to be pro cage fighter. Please ignore my photo & name. Lol (Its meant for comedic effect) -My question is about caffeine. As I understand it, caffeine depletes our adrenaline glands & raises the hormone cortisol. Being that we need all of the adrenaline that the glands can supply to our bodies, is caffeine smart to use for our sport or in general before or during stressful & combative situations? We want the stress hormone cortisol to stay in check before a fight right? Otherwise we are talking Cushing's syndrome if the cortisol level becomes excessively high. I'm just trying to understand the balance of it all. Do you have your guys avoid it on hard sparring days and real fight nights? I personally want the glands filled with adrenaline. I don't even know how to replenish the glands other than sleep. Do you tell your fighters to chill out from using caffeine for a certain amount of time prior to fight week? Caffeine withdrawals are so hard from my experience, but I can't find any legal alternatives that can help me get sharp. Thanks for taking my question! P.s, sorry for the questionnaire overload, but hey, I'm just seeking knowledge from an expert. Take care!

There’s a plethora of supplement/nutrition/training/diet advice for your basic general health and hypertrophy(beach muscle building) training all over the internet. Which is fine and dandy if that’s your goal but this is probably the only page that has all of that and more catered to combat sports specifically and at an extremely high level. This dude knows what he’s talking about, he’s very intelligent, but he also lives it and some of the biggest names in combat sports work with him. As a boxer I can’t tell you how grateful I am for this page. I’ve done many different sports from my childhood til now but when I got out of school I got into the hypertrophy training for bodybuilding. When I realized it wasn’t for me and I got into boxing it was hard to break the diet/supplement/training habits I did for bodybuilding which DOES NOT help in combat sports. Over the years I’ve learned and changed a lot of stuff but I wish I found this page a long time ago because it has everything and more that I need.

I am currently doing 6 days PPL for 6h per week. 3 days mma current, however I will change to 2 days mma and 2 days bjj during spring 2023. For supplements I take 5g creatine, whey and 3-4g of omega 3 by biosalma for mental health benefits (chronic depression). Besides those, I also take 400 mg magnesium and vitamin d 2500/5000 IU, during winter and early spring. I only take my 200/400 mg caffeine during gym not mma, this would also boost my b6 and b12 levels.

Hey man I liked the part on fish oil. The dha vs epa timing for optimum nutrition delivery was well explained. Next up was the BCAA portion, and you’re correct in that we need leucine, valine and isoleucine but then you said they need to be supplemented. If you’re a combat sport athlete I’m eating a balanced diet man. Lean meat 3-4 times a day I don’t think it’s a beneficial supplement. Cause if you’re eating well as an athlete there seems to be a benefit of getting nutrients from real food as opposed to supplements
@PhilDaruStrong6 жыл бұрын
Zaftzy smith very true and I do agree nothing beats quality food but unfortunately the meat we have in American isn’t the greatest and most of the athletes especially the young ones don’t eat the highest quality meats.

@PhilDaruStrong5 жыл бұрын
Joe G creatine has been tested and proven to decrease the onset of TBI (traumatic brain injury) my by supplementing 2.5-5g pre sparring this can help with those effects of head trauma also from a performance standpoint your mostly running off of alactic capacity and aerobic power and anaerobic threshold energy systems depending on the pace of the fight and your style of fighting utilizing Creatine will increase ATP production giving you better energy reproduction in short bursts of energy (ATP-PC)

Hey could you explain why you picked BCAA's over EAA's or Whey ? I know you need especially Leucin to kick off muscle protein synthesis, but then you would need to have more than just 3 of the essential amino acids to repair and build muscle wouldn't you ?
@PhilDaruStrong6 жыл бұрын
D J not saying EAA’s aren’t beneficial I do put those in as well mostly throughout the day Whey is good but just have to make sure you pick the right one for you.. most people are lactose intolerant using a grass fed whey or even plant based if needed. BCAA’s primarily for pre/post training.
