i think the most valuable comment on this tutorial is that you push forward with the foot or knee and not downward. I discovered this trick that help my duckdive and now see that this dude makes the same comment on his tutorial. i think the dude knows a lot for surfing

V good instruction simple and true. Maybe forgot to mention that is the thickness or floatability of board which makes it difficult or easy to duck it. Also , once you learn it well you will feel the energy you save doing d dives and you will surf better cause you are rested with more energy to take off. Cheers from galapagosurf

Hi Tim, great instruction again. Love your tutorials and hope to catch a class one day. Just on this duck dive lesson, I like to think of duck diving with a board like you do in the shallows without. See a breaking wave come towards you, jump forward and down, giving the forward motion, under the wave toward the sea floor, then arch back up to the surface.

Thanks man,I've been skating big half pipes and now big pools or bowls.. And have I thought I'm a pro vert skater I should be a natural at surfing or at least have better go than the average person,so one day late fall on the jersey shore in some very small waves I got me holy ass handed to me because I could not get thru these Atlantic winter waves they were small but strong,it totally sucks so after 30 or 40 minutes exhausted,I had heard of duck diving so I tried my best these waves fast too and very repetitive,my duck dive was horrible any who,it was pretty shallow when the waves started to gang up on me the board flip mite have been the better option,I had rented the board for the day and and was determined but after an hour and a half I brought the board back,sadly,but at least I could see now how to properly do a duck dive,and the execution of that is another thing,my friend,great thanks at least I know,gratzi,gratzi...I'll be in the biggest empty pool I can find,please hold all my calls.... Piece .

Thanks for that and we have often seen super solid skaters go through what you have experience. Just so different in many ways but once your up and your a good skater it all makes sense. Does how much i weigh matter in the duck dive?
@SurfInsight4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tommaso ....yes it does in relation to the volume in the board BUT we watch people with light weights duck dive high volume short boards just because their technique is so good. However Duck Dive is a constant skill and a funny thing is the faster you paddle in the last few strokes the easier it is to sink the board no matter your weight . Hope that helps a bit . Surf east coast of Florida on bigger days, cold fronts are great... you will learn to duck dive well or have a very hard time getting out.. unless you just bail every wave and swim out but that has it own problems to itself.... the nature of these waves, in this area, is non stop... no real settling between sets... and an long impact zone to get to the outside... you WILL learn to duck dive well or go fishing.... peace

Did we roll our boards for thousands of year?
@SurfInsight6 жыл бұрын
Hi Deon. Well we know that surfing has a super long history .. do check this link iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/spring04/britton/history.htm but with the shorter Alaia there may have been some sort of duck diving done as the boards were quite thin. But with the larger boards like the Olo or Kiko'o then rolling was the traditional skill used. Just a logical way to get through waves with a bigger board.
