People with high cognitive intelligence often neglect developing their emotional intelligence. Emotions aren't always intuitive, and mastering them is usually painful. Basically it's the same problem a lot of beautiful people have growing up: if I can skate by on my looks, why bother studying? I've also met people who had high emotional intelligence but low cognitive intelligence. They operate almost entirely on instinct. Gannon is my favorite follower along with Raul. Both have a lovely story arch about coming to terms with their past and what they want to do for the future. For Gannon its what he wants to do to help the Mojave: does he rally the remnants and don his father's power armor, or stay behind to help Freeside? Raul meanwhile has to come to terms with his truly venerable age; a prewar ghoul living long past his time, a long trail of loss behind him and a future he is unsure if he has a purpose in. Does he pick up his tools and age as gracefully as one can in his situation, or does he down the ammo belt and poncho and ride once more, a fire rekindle burning to help the wasteland? Both also bring up interesting points about the Mojave. Gannon shows just how much people are struggling and the issues present with the NCR while acknowledging all the good they do and can do for the region. Raul has been around long enough to remember a time before Caesar and can vouch for the fact that he has helped make the east safer despite all of the blood spilt in his name. In the end both are top tier companions.

I kinda wish there was a way to talk him down about ARCHIMEDES. 1) [Speech] Helios One's power is already missing from people's lives, and choosing an orbital laser cannon over free power is not going to do anything negative to people. Since there's already no power from Helios, there's no people dependent on it. This choice is not a negative, it's a alternative positive. 2) [Science] ARCHIMEDES is a unique piece of scientific achievement. Power can be gotten from elsewhere, orbital ion cannons can not. Not to mention solar output is absolutely pathetic compared to hydroelectric or, I dunno, stable portable nuclear fusion that's widely available. 3) [Survival] There are other things than Legion, House and NCR out there. The Chinese may very well still be kicking around. Big Empty is full of horrifying experiments. The tunnelers are closing in on Mojave. Hell, even Deathclaws took over the best route to Vegas. Having an orbital cannon to protect the residents would be much better than just giving them some power from an old-ass solar plant 4) [Repair] It's not like Helios one would even produce all that much power. The plant is in bad shape, and putting it to full use would just speed up the deterioration. There's no solar technicians or know-how how to fix it. The closest available ones are huddled in a bunker, and would also rather go for the orbital cannon. The plant is just well off enough to keep the weapon going, everything else is hopeful at best. 5) [Intelligence] Right now, the only reason NCR has not sent anyone smarter than Fantastic is because they assume the plant to be dead. It's a fortress for them, not a power plant. If Fantastic gets it working a little bit, then it's just a bonus for them. But fixing the power plant will make them notice. And if they notice that the plant is now working, and they are not the ones receiving that free power, they will definitely send someone capable to re-route it. And hell, they will find ARCHIMEDES, and definitely go for it over power. You'd end up with the cannon operational, and in NCR hands. Arming ARCHIMEDES will just make them think the plant's dead, since they don't see where the output goes. And I'm much better at choosing the targets for it. 6) [Barter] Free power to the Freeside wouldn't be an economical boon. It will just serve as a lure to the less fortunate, overwhelming the streets outside of the Strip with even more desperate people. And it would also attract those people, who'd want to monopolize said free power. You'd be ending up causing more suffering in the long run by taking that option. 7) [Energy Weapons] Jesus Christ, Arcade, did you even listen to me? A. Personal. Orbital. Ion. Cannon. How are you not hard right now?

You're trying to reason with an extremely intelligent peace chasing do-gooder why a new weapon of mass destruction needs to be completed. Theres no argument where Arcade accepts that. Especially since the political situation in and around Vegas is so fragile. If the NCR captures it, they use it to clamp down on everyone and secure the mojave through force. If House gets it, he uses it when needed to kill everyone who opposes his dream. Followers would probably destroy any way to mark targets, wasting it. Legion would nuke anything Ceasar doesn't like. God forbid any street gangs or raiders get ahold of it. The Brotherhood would use it to make the situation untenible for NCR and anyone else unfortunate enough to exist around them, if the NCR even manages to not put 2+2 together. TLDR: There is no way, ever, someone as intelligent and ethical as Arcade would ever allow a weapon of mass destruction to come online if he had a chance to stop it. He knows the wider implications, and the risks, and that it may exist well past when he and the courier are gone.

It's so simple, but that speech check is probably the most impressive dialogue option I've ever seen in a game. It's logical and perfectly articulated, it's not something most people could think up, and it's clearly something that would persuade the other person. Most of the time in F:NV the checks feel forced and awkward, like there's no way the other person would actually change their mind because of it (Lanius), but that one is nothing at all like that, it works beautifully and organically. It makes me want to see a game where you can just talk and think like that, all the time.

Edit: NOT Tyrants, but Dictators. Tyrants weren't objectively bad in Rome. It simply meant that you had absolute political authority. It was an emergency measure with a time limit, or in some cases, a recognition of leadership if someone was made Tyrant for life

Nobody even talked about dictators, you just swapped the terms and tried to define the term tyrant keeping in mind definition of dictator that is almost an anthonym from some perspective for tyrant. Presuming you are referring to Joshua Graham as the first (in which case, don't forget about Daniel also), I believe that several Enclave folks in FO2 make vaguely Christian references (in the same way that modern politicians do so). Also, however, the symbol of the Followers of the Apocalypse is a cross - while it is not explicitly a Christian organization, it seems reasonable, given their extensive library and their gravitation toward religious sites (taking an interest in what goes on in the Cathedral, settling the Old Mormon Fort), that some might embrace rational Christianity. Also, presumably some others drifted north and east away from New Canaan after it was burned.

There are a lot of Mormons in the new Vegas lore. The followers of the apocalypse is likely a Mormon missionary group given they are setup in Old Mormon fort. In general Mormonism in America is very prevalent in Utah so that is why there are a lot of Mormons in New Vegas.
