Suzuki engine OIL LEAK - Distributor O-Ring replacement. SAMURAI SIDEKICK GEO TRACKER

A common oil leak on the 1.3 and 1.6 engines. This video goes over the procedure for Replacing O-ring gasket seal on the distributor housing of the Suzuki Samurai sidekick in Geo Tracker. When removing and re installing the distributor you will need to be sure you have the engine in the correct timing. I will show setting the #4 piston at TDC (top dead center) and aligning the distributor rotor to #4 spark plug position. This cheap and easy fix will have the back of your engine looking squeaky clean for years to come!

Great tutorial on fixing the most common leak on these engines. Some don't know about setting TDC. I also replace the shaft O- ring as long as I have the distributor out. In addition to rotor position I mark where the distributor is set on the housing so I can get everything pretty well lined up on reassembly for a smooth start.

The rear of the engine and transmission of our 1994 Suzuki Sidekick was covered in dry and moist oil from years of leaking. Easier way to find TDC is to GENTLY place a long screwdriver in the spark plug hold and watch for it to reach the peak right before it starts to fall back down...just an easier way to visually see it.

That works better on an engine like the 16v where the spark plug is straight up and down. When they're on an angle it can be difficult to get a reading from the screw driver because it wants to fall over, that is if you're working alone and don't have an extra set of hands. but yes that is another way to do it. I have another video showing that technique as well

I need to replace the o-ring too but I have a question. Why dont pull the cap off and then turn the engine until the distributor is at piston 4 for example? Or do I miss something?:)

I just took mine apart on my 95 Tracker to fix it but didn't have the right o ring so just put some etc on it untill I get the right one but noticed a small braided metal wire coming from the distributor wires. Looks like a tiny ground strap. It works with out it but is that supposed to be hooked somewhere? It has the 1.6 16 valve. And any tips on adjusting the clutch cable? That would be a good video. So is that wire the ground for the distributor? I have the same thing. 1.6L 16 valve. It’s part of the distributor wiring harness, but not connected to anything.

That engine looks a lot different than my 1.6 liter 8 valve 1994 Tracker engine. Would it matter if you use the number 1 piston at TDC?

Yours will have throttle body injection instead of carburetor but the process is the same. Use #4 cylinder

Why does it matter setting #4 to TDC? I’ve seen people mark where the rotor was and where the locating bolt is and was fine. Just wondering why you do it!

Me too, mine is lined up between 4 and 1 i believe. Not too sure why this matters. If someone could explain that would be great! Should i move mine to 4?

Yes, you can mark the distributor housing location and the rotor location at any point in the engine rotation. When you reassemble everything, place the rotor and the housing back on their marks and it will be in perfect time.

Just replaced my orong because ot was leaking i left distributor cap together and just pulled the 3 bolts put pf the back of the housing put together amd wont start any ideas 1991 suzuki sidekick

My girl has a 89 sidekick 1.6 5 speed. No spark. Replaced a lot , looking for ECM ( control module ). Where is it on this vehicle? New plugs,wires,distributor cap,rotor button and coil but still no spark but not sure of the location of the control module. Want to replace it next

Everything went great until I started the engine and then realized I had left the socket wrench on the crank bolt. Luckily it fell off.
