SWFL Eagles_ Intruder~ Battle In The Sky & E23's First Meal On The Ground 03.19.24

E23 had his/her first food delivery to the ground this morning. A growing awareness of eating in new surroundings plainly shown on E23's face. E23 followed Mom to the ground and ate some before going to a front pine to perch. When E23 saw Dad arrive to the DSPS (drive side pond snag), he flew under the nest before going back to eat more food on the ground. After a bit, E23 joined Dad & Mom (who had flown to the DSPS) there. F23 dropped back down to eat more food. F23 and M15 saw another eagle flying overhead and got busy trying to chase it away. F23 flew back to the nest tree, M15 chased after the intruder. And what a chase! M15 was dominant in the pursuit and they flew around the pasture before flying in the west skies. M returned safely to the pasture and took part of the food on the ground to the nest. E23 finally made it back to the nest and ate more food. Great lessons for E23 today! E23 is 79 days old today.

How very exciting! What a team. Seems to me all three of them were watchful. Instinct was in full mode! Very protective parents. M took the defense of the territory and the intruder. F protected the nest and E stayed put and out of the way until the all clear sign… dad and food back. Then took precautions and arrived home with a little stop over. Awesome footage, Vicki! People are too close..especially ones hanging & moving along fence..spooking hell out of them all...spooked flying eagles make mistakes risking their lifes

Agreed. You could tell all three were disturbed by people moving. At one point while F23 was eating, M15 stepped forward with his eyes fixed on everyone making sure no one was sneaking up on his family. I am glad Vicki called people out for moving too much.

My actual point was not to move out of the way for my sake but to stand still for the eagles sake. They watch every movement around them and they don’t need to add us to their ‘watch list’. Some people get excited and forget or don’t know nest viewing etiquette so a reminder to them is always good. 😊
