I’m so glad I listened to this again - it’s so true about feeling pressured and a failure - recently our pastor preached on Peters instruction 1 Peter 2:2 NASBS [2] like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, And to pray for workers Matthew 9:37-38 NASBS [37] Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. [38] Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest." For now this comforts me and one day the Lord may deem to send me

I had a similar experience as you at your reunion. I met someone new at work and he let me know he didn't believe in God. I didn't even think about it first but told him that even though he doesn't believe now, God will always believe in him and loves him more than anyone ever has or ever will. That took him by surprise -- in a good way. Took me by surprise too. But I do believe in asking questions and finding out more about that person and how and what they think. I took that a course in apologetics and it changed the way I look at evangelism.

I was raised by Columbo and Monk. Your discussion and examples of specific questions/responses is so very helpful. I converted at age 40. No amount of argument would have brought me to faith. I loved discussion and learning. But I wasn't interested in getting into an argument about who is right or wrong. The best thing Christians did back then and following my conversion was to live their life faithfully and be "ready to give an answer" as I slowly opened wide the door. Thanks for all of your great questions and your spirit!

Such a great interview, thank you! Logic is key, because often the arguments are based on feelings or emotions, so if we, as Christians, can stay humble and kind but speak logic to the emotional statement, it actually makes our point that much stronger! I used the "let Jesus take the heat" approach amongst word for word to his example a while back. Someone told me that she respected my beliefs, but was offended by me saying that Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven. In that moment, I knew not to cower to say something like "I'm so sorry I offended you or hurt your feelings ," NO!! We need to NOT apologize for what Jesus said! Instead I just said, "if you're offended, you're offended by Jesus's own words. He Himself said that. As a Christian, I believe Him." I later followed it up with, "He also never forces anyone to follow Him, you are still free to make your own choice." She didn't respond but I pray it left a pebble in her shoe. This interview was so practically helpful!

I love your shows...always such great information for us to use in our own lives. Re: your friend saying "I'm a science guy", I have a little story. My 8 year old granddaughter announced in class that she was a Christian and believes God makes people (in response to a Native American myth they'd read). She then told me another kid said "Well, I believe in science." I asked her "Who do you think made science?" She looked at me, questioning, and I said "God." She brightened up and said "Oh YEAH." :)

Anyone that teaches the LIE of monetary tithing, sells anything using the gospel, or teaches that same-sex marriage is a sin CHOOSES to die with the wicked. Luke 10:7 states the only wages for ministering are eating and drinking whatever you are given. Also, know that rich people will all die. You can't be a Christian, sit on all kinds of money, watch your fellow brothers and sisters starve, suffer, or be homeless, choose to do nothing about it, and think that it's ok. Those are all wolves. Mathew 19:12 Eunuchs that are born that way are transgender. Eunuchs made that way by others were abused in some way and something inside of them blocks off a certain type of body but it doesn't happen to everyone that is abused. Those that choose to live like Eunuchs FOR THE SAKE OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN are bisexual people that choose partners of the same sex-characteristics but opposite in regards to gender. Notice, it states God PREFERS for people to be in LGBT relationships. Leviticus, Corinthians, and Timothy were translated wrong by Billy Graham. Those verses are actually referring to pedophilia. Romans 1:27 All of the men were male in regards to gender, all of the women were female in gender. It is not referring to Eunuchs (where one partner is transgender). Also, it had nothing to do with marriage of any kind. They were trying to procreate during orgies so God did it on purpose. Anyone that continues to teach same sex marriage is a sin when the Bible says God prefers for people to be in LGBT relationships will also die by their own choice. In order to be a church building, the place must house people inside of it. Otherwise it is just another private money-making business part of Babylon that furthers satan's agenda. Stay out of the fake churches. I am Elijah of Malachi 4:5-6 and Acts 3:22-23 says it will come to pass that anyone that fails to listen to me will be UTTERLY destroyed from among the people. Again, everyone has a choice. And anyone that deletes my messages CHOOSES to reject Jesus Christ Himself and that means they also CHOOSE to die with the wicked. I am Elijah so that means any discrepancies in the holy books are ultimately decided by me. I am also to usher in the Messiah! Be ready: Jesus is coming back! WORLD PEACE IS COMING! !!!!!!.!!!!!!

Instead of confronting others beliefs or trying to make a disciple per say … I really love asking to hear their “God story” - seems everyone has one and if you listen carefully there’s usually hurt somewhere if God is a negative thing to them. I don’t think anyone is a minute- soul winner, we are seed planters and people-lovers with every encounter until the moment comes when the harvest is ripe! Leave every person you meet feeling loved/encouraged by a Christian. Those seeds will grow if the soil is fertile ❤️

The Gospels were written in Hellenistic Greek within a context of Hellenistic Judaism. The culture in which Jesus lived was Graeco-Roman. Jesus was using the Socratic method as his method of inquiry, as is Mr. Shlemon, and Colombo (my favorite t.v. show). A nice backdrop to this would be any of Plato's dialogues. It is very effective.

Greg Koukl is amazing! His book is a great tool, never backing down or encouraging us not to spread the Word of God, but to do it in a safe and smart way. By reading this book, you realize, or at least I realized that it is not my job to convert every person I talk to, but with my witnessing, my attitude and the grace I show, together with God's Word, I can 1. plant a seed 2. water the seed, or 3. harvest. Because we don't always know at what stage a person is, it is better to listen and ask questions, always having prayed before for wisdom (James 1:5) What a great episode! I have loved this concept of letting Jesus take the heat, again it is not an invitation to excuse ourselves from carrying out the Word of God... but a weight lifted off my shoulders and remember, Jesus is the Hero of the story, He is the One through the Holy Spirit doing the job, I just need to do my task for which He has made me adequate (1 Timothy 1:12) and let Him do the rest! Love, love this video, thanks!!!! 🥰😍

Man, Columbo used to be my favorite when I was a teen. My friends were watching MTV and I was watching Peter Falk. 😂 Regarding what Alan said about not shoehorning the Gospel into every conversation, one thing I learned that has served me well (I can't remember who from) is to not just wait for a relevant opportunity to share but also to find out if the person is belligerent to the Gospel. I don't think Christians in most churches have been taught to discern the difference between casting pearls before swine in an attempt to add numbers to the physical church and actually making disciples (which is the Biblical call). Also, Alan's "let Jesus take the heat" is really a form of casting burdens onto Him, which I use, too! It was good to hear I'm not the only one. 😂 But seriously, the Lord is unapologetic about things like His standards regarding sin or even that He creates calamity. When people get upset about either, their argument is with the Lord, not us. Therefore, taking that burden onto ourselves is something we really shouldn't do in the first place. I let the Lord speak for Himself on these issues and trust that, not only is His defense far better than mine, but also that if I remain the focus of people's hatred for what He's said after I've directed them to His Word on whatever subject, the repercussions that follow are decreed to strengthen my perseverance. Excellent video! Thank you for sharing! 😊

Wow this was an incredible episode Brother Becket I really think we need something like this based on the conversation I had last year but even after that conversation I had with a nonbeliever that likes who Jesus is, I was being careful to not let my emotions get to me & thank God for that. It really give me a good idea of the young lady’s perspective on when it comes to people as Alan mentioned ignoring our question and wanting us to answer instead. It was a smart move that I decide to not reply every time this young lady messaged me and just let her go share what she had to say. I was shocked about how much social media was her source for her argument & just warned her to be careful that people will make their own assumptions & twist the Bible for their own needs or what they want to hear. Really asking the Lord to guide me what to say and one thing I even have to remind myself and glad that I heard from another podcast because it was so good for me to know is that we were not responsible for peoples’ reaction when we tell them about the gospel even if we share the gospel in such a loving way and the person says they feel hurt. I felt very bad letting that get to me thinking I pushed her away from God even when she asked me & I showed her in the Bible about homosexuality. So thankful that my small group in church prayed that God helps me to not let that get me down & reminded me that I did my part in sharing the gospel & as Alan mentioned “ The pebble in the shoe”. I notice her partner was from a different religion & had an assumption about Christians & was putting me in this category that I was “more holy than thou” and was furious that I ended my conversation with her that God bless her & that I was going to pray for both of them to know how much God loves both of them. She didn’t want God’s blessing for her so I guess I was take that blessing then. Now & then I pray for this young lady & her partner that they come to know Christ & that God just plants those seeds & heal any brokenness in their lives.

Christs grace and love for us in unfathomable, His ways are not our ways and praise Jesus for that! Thanks brothers keep up the ministry in Christ ❤️🙏🌸

I feel this could also apply to prolife/prochoice, as long as the prochoice person isn't hostile and is open to discussion. Thanks for the tips! These are great.

Tactics we got. Aplenty. As Sun Tzu said, "my tactics are all open for you to see. But my strategy lies hidden." Hear the word of the Lord.

I asked them, " Every time you see a person, you have to know, that it took a man and a woman to come together to create that person." This is true all over the world. This is the testimony of God.

The value of testimony comes in because so often the reasons people doubt are emotional and volitional rather than evidential. Gary Habermas wrote a book studying the different types of doubt (hint, I mentioned the 3 types herein).

So pertinent for me since I would like to be a more effective evangelist. I like what he said about putting a stone in their shoe. Just to stretch someone's belief system toward Christ is an accomplishment and may be all God wants us to do. Little by little (scripture - in Isaiah). God has called us to be faithful -He does the rest. I will be following up with obtaining more information and buying the recommended book.

Outstanding interview! I would love Alan Schleman's book on audio and intend to buy it today. I think we should all start doing Becket Cook's video clubs (you know, like just book clubs) and have people over to watch one of your videos and afterwards (or even during) pause to discuss. It's a great way to do out reach. If my wife and i do it we'll keep you posted. We really love what we're learning from your videos. Our faith is growing from them!

When I shared my concern for my brother Jeff's progressive christian beliefs, who is a UCC pastor, he replied, "I don't have to justify my beliefs!!!". We were raised Evangelical, but he looked for a church whose doctrine affirms his homosexuality.

I have had experiences where when you ask them questions and you ask them to back up their claim, they start attacking your character and name-calling. This is a clear sign they don’t have an argument and they start getting belligerent and hostile.
