Beautiful truck and build. Really love it !

I'm honestly surprised the 300 I6 isn't a lot more popular. It's probably the most reliable engine Ford ever made, it has tons of low end torque, it's smooth, and it takes boost like a champ even in stock form. With some decent aftermarket support it could make some great numbers fairly easily.

Go ahead and put a new camshaft in it. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised with the results. Great build.

Had to comment and say "great build" I am 56 yrs old and rember these trucks new. 73'-79' best built trucks of all time . I bought a 78' lariat f250 4×4 in 84' farmed it to death replaced it with a 79' wore it out and ect. My oldest boys first truck was a 79' f150 4x4 that we bought from the original owner. Had the all options. We had the original sticker and it was around 10,500 new. Probably have had at least a dozen 73'-79' still have a few on the farm and one I drive to town occasionally. Thanks for the videos.

Every one of your videos. Is convincing me to turbo my six

Wouldn't be a second thought if I hadn't just put a .40 over 351 in it that has less than a 100miles

Love this build, I’ve been dreaming of adding a turbo to my 1990 F150. Will definitely utilize your videos as an aid for when I add turbo to mine.

Love the west coast SR mirrors. Like how you keep it old school look with modern touch of mechanicals. I love a 4 speed, but the 5 speed lets you travel on the Interstate. I was thinking of keeping my 4 speed and put the gear vendor overdrive on instead of doing a ZF5 swap

It would be interesting to see what numbers it would pull on a chassis Dyno.

Love the truck bud, I kinda got a channel to. Can’t wait for Holley efi and a turbo as well. And a 6r80 down the road

Promaxx makes a good flowing head with bigger valves for these but it's not listed on their website got to call and talk to them directly also a air to air cooler would help your efforts as well.

Nice video, I myself am building a turbo 4.9 for my 85 F150 4x4. Got a 5 speed and transfer case to replace my stock 4spd. Thinking about doing bi-turbo to decrease TL. How are your temps? Still haven’t decided if I want rear mounted turbos or up front yet. I’d love to know you current power output.

my 300 i6 is a pig with its 1 barrel Rochester but it never dies i just started it up for the first time in 7 months because the 6.9 went to the shot for a fuel tank 15 seconds of cranking to get gas back up to the carb and it took wright off and went 180 miles think ill drive it till its low on gas fill it and change the oil and before parking it
@TheAnonymous1one2 жыл бұрын
What kind of power do you think its making? What rpm are you making peak torque at? Great video thanks!

"Saw a Turbo on Market Place and decided to do a Turbo 300 build" Haha nice! Cool to know the story of how this build came to be. I gotta say, your overall build is clean efficient and does the job, as much as it'd probably be cool to get a Stainless 6 into 1 Header, or twin Turbo or Coumpounds...K.I.S.S.

Thank you, the truck does have an oil cooler too, I have a sandwich plate between the oil filter and block with lines running to a cooler up front. 1. I don’t really have an end game for it, it’s kinda just an ever evolving project, I’ve been working on it for 7 or 8 years already. 2. The paint isn’t really good enough to be a show truck so it’ll most likely just stay a summer cruiser. 3. I most likely won’t build another engine until this one blows up. I haven’t decided if I’ll build another 300 or diesel swap it when this engine blows up, I guess I’ll have to decide if/when that day comes. One day I’ll probably get bored and turn the boost up though. 4. I’d love to do a build with an older body on a super duty chassis with a powerstroke and retrofit the interior, I’ve always loved builds like that.

Great build this is my dream to do an it works amazing as I have always thought hoping to do the same thing in my 94 150 curious if you have an idea on what it costs to build?
@WastedPaycheckGarage2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I would say I have around $5-6,000 in parts in this turbo build. It could be done cheaper if you shopped around and bought stuff on marketplace, on sale, etc. but I bought it all new at one time when I built it 2 years ago.

Cool truck, you're gonna want to put a bigger exhaust on there, at least 3inch out of you're turbo, and add a phenolic spacer between your intake and your throttle body, turbo exhaust is extremely hot, hot air expands, bigger pipe will drop egts too
@WastedPaycheckGarage2 жыл бұрын
It’s got 3” from the turbo back, forgot to mention that. I’ve got an aluminum spacer but planning on adding a phenolic spacer to keep the heat out of the sniper.
@chrisc32232 жыл бұрын
Any fitment issues between that offy intake and the HD exhaust?
@summerrancher80442 жыл бұрын
Curious, when you built the motor, how did you gap the rings? I keep hearing they need gapped differently than if it was naturally aspirated. You use some particular resource for specs?
@WastedPaycheckGarage2 жыл бұрын
Ring gap is definitely important for big boost numbers, but mine is stock. I’ve never had this engine apart with the exception of the valvetrain so I’m relying on worn out rings and 8psi of boost to keep from squeezing the pistons. So far I haven’t had any issues. If it was a brand new engine you would definitely want to open up the gap a little, there’s formulas online for different bores/applications.

Thank you. It was originally a 400 truck, not sure on axle ratio, guessing 3.73

wish Ford built a f350 turbo straight 6 that would be my pick....
@TheBigford460 Жыл бұрын
You stated the 292 chevy inline 6 rockers will work on the 300? So I'm assuming they are 1.7 ratio? I'm curious what all needs to be accomplished to use them? One of my 300's I put in an aftermarket camshaft and it lost torque on the low end. I would like to do the rocker trick to increase the lift. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks
@WastedPaycheckGarage10 ай бұрын
All you need is to make sure your engine has stud mount rockers and not pedestal. They’re 1.7 or 1.75, I just ordered them through summit racing with new pivot balls and lock nuts. Just the stamped steel stock rocker arms will work
@whirlwindjml2 жыл бұрын
What flange did you use for the HD exhaust?nice work btw...
Why not bypass the 6AL-2 and let the Holley control the timing directly? All you would need is an ignitor and that's inside the HEI already.
@WastedPaycheckGarage2 жыл бұрын
I’ve thought about converting it to let the sniper control it but there really isn’t that huge of a benefit, once your timing curve is dialed you don’t really ever have to change it. At the time when I built this (2019-20) it wasn’t clear to me whether I could make the sniper control the HEI, I’m sure I could make it work with what I know now but I just don’t feel like going back and redoing it all when this system works for me

That thing is so cool. Do you have a background in mechanical or fabrication? Or just started putting stuff together until it worked?
@WastedPaycheckGarage6 ай бұрын
Thank you. I am a fruit farmer by trade. We have a metal shop of sorts at the farm, I do a fair amount of fabrication on all of the specialty equipment that gets used in the orchards and vineyards.
