In this clip from episode 3 of Talking MEWShop, Filmmaker & Educator Jamie Hitchings and the team discuss the business of becoming an editor as a career.
The discussion delves into how Manhattan Edit Workshop instructs its editing students to ready themselves for a career as professional editors. It emphasizes the additional attributes necessary for success beyond proficiency in editing applications. The multifaceted role of an editor is highlighted, encompassing aspects of being an accountant, a social worker, and ultimately one's own advocate. MEWShop collaborates with students to equip them with skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, and proper etiquette in the editing room to ensure they are well-prepared for the industry.
A film-obsessed nerd since as far back as she can remember, it's no wonder that Jamie Hitchings became a filmmaker. Specifically, she's a post-production specialist whose work reflects an interest in technology and asks tough questions about how it affects humanity. Hitchings teaches college-level post-production and film history and is also a freelance editor for the United Nations. She is a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute and completed her Masters at NYU. Her first feature-length documentary "Catching Air" was born out of a strong desire to create a story from something that most people are not familiar with. Through this documentary, Hitchings hopes to not just to spread knowledge and dispel myths about the fringe creative world of international air guitar, but also to inspire others to explore thing that lie just outside of their own daily routines.
Manhattan Edit Workshop is a New York Film Editing School offering a full range of basic to advanced training courses, from the Avid, Autodesk, Assimilate, Blackmagic and Apple products to the complete suite of Adobe applications.
Manhattan Edit Workshop's mission is to provide the highest quality education for filmmakers and editors. Focusing on both the art and technology inherent to our craft. We foster a "learn by doing" approach in an atmosphere where mistakes are encouraged as part of the process and the only "silly" question is the one that isn't asked.
