Contrary to what This Rentoul chap says, people in China are not buying electric. They were to begin with, but not now. There acres and acres of broken, faulty, or fire damaged electric cars. Also, acres of electric cars in fields that have yet to be sold. I hope that this government continues in the disastrous way it has started, because it will destroy them.

The EV market is already doomed. Ford and GM of America, VW of Europe and Chinese Production are ALL suffering the same problem----customers aren't buying. They are far too expensive, have to much electronic control over the "driving experience", Have HUGE depreciation costs and HUGE insurance costs add to that a very poor infrastructure. It all stems from unreasonable time frames, government withdrawal of subsidy for motorists and nothing done to the infrastructure. Plus we all know, they will not be road tax free. Over the last ten years government has upgraded the motorways to have more control and that means tax by mile for all cars. They are also a huge fire risk and weigh a ton (the reason why multi store car parks are banning them) Add to that the fines car manufacturers will face if they don't commit to total EV. After the horrendous losses, running into billions, it will be cheaper , for car producers, to shut down altogether! Plus the stupid net zero politicians, have forgotten, is the fact of the total load on the electrical grid! We are ALL suppose to run out and by cars costing £50/60,000 and also change our boilers to Heat pumps (approx £5000) that dont work. Where is all this electricity and money going to come from? We already import electricity from France in the high periods, it's a total bloody mess---Governments, the bane of everybody, an elected clique of idiots.
@DavidPlayfair2 сағат бұрын
That's all cow-dung. Ford and GM can't make EVs at a profit and VW is going under because the Chinese aren't buying their old-tech ICE cars.
@jeremylister89Сағат бұрын
STOP AND THINK! Are you happy to pay more than 1000% more for your electric costs? This is as if your house electric cost rise from £700 per year to £8,500. This is the madness of EV charging cost variability. £0.07 per unit at home versus £0.85(max) at a public charger. To my mind it is insane to have such a difference and then to say to the population....you must buy an EV...which you may not be able to 'fuel', or to park or to insure or to get fixed, with frightening depreciation and not built ethically or to last. THINK!!

How in the world can a government fine a company for not reaching a hypothetical sales target. The government has not invested in infrastructure it’s signed us upto unrealistic green targets and levies. We have the most expensive electric in Europe. How can a government that produces nothing impose production levels to a free market. Without encouraging buyers with subsidies or investing in the infrastructure to run these vehicles. It’s ludicrous

The government should have built out supercharger stations like Tesla did before they started selling their cars! If a private start to company can do it so can the government. Then they should let the market decide what they want to drive and let the transition go at it's own speed. This instant changeover is not working.
