@LudiCrust. If you are talking about his job as executive director at Wrexham, he didn't beat anyone out. Wrexham still owe £9m to the owners and are actually posting losses (around $6.4m). FFP dictates that they can only spend 50% of their turnover on players (which includes wages). Wrexham could probably feasibly spend around £2-3m on players next season which is good compared to the rest of the league, however League 1 has some massive clubs in it with wealthy owners and good players. Look at Birmingham, Wigan, Reading, Posh (if they don''t go up), Bolton (if they don't go up), Barnsley (if they don't go up) Charlton... These are difficult teams to beat with big fan bases and it will cost a lot more money to lure Championship players down to League 1 than it did to lure League 1 players down to League 2.

One of the most interesting aspects of the documentary show to me is the way the owners build a really solid management team that seems to come together well. They were able to recruit a set of players that were well above the league two level, but that wouldnt have worked without a lot of great groundwork.

I am so looking forward to this season. Not that the previous seasons didn't present their own challenges but this year is going to be so interesting and difficult. I had the good fortune to spend an evening in Wrexham last summer with my brother while on holiday in England. We sat with Wayne Jones and a gang of regulars at the Turf pub for about 4 hours just shooting the breeze. It was one of the most enjoyable evenings ever. Good luck from and old American Footballer! Difference with Salford and Wrexham is the community. The Welsh seem to be very passionate about their clubs and heritage. From day 1 of Rob and Ryan owning the football club it has always been what is best for the community? How do they make the club better again without just spending loads of money on pointless things? Like the expenses have been high but the players they brought in were the right fit for them.

@sinep80087 ай бұрын
I believe the team can get promoted again into the championship next season. But that's when I believe the team will struggle a bit. The main reason is that they do not have the facilities in place to sustain long success at the top of the championship. The team will lack funds to get those top players. In my opinion they need to start upgrading stuff quickly. But unless they upgrade their seating to 40k+ I really don't see them competing with the top premiere league teams if they do get promoted in the future to the Prem. So if that's their goal then there is still a lot of work for them to do.

Ipswich is a better known, bigger club with a bigger fan base. Wrexham can be a Premier League club, but it's difficult to maintain that status. Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United are going down to Championship now in 2024 and they're bigger than Wrexham. Bournemouth went down after 8 years with Eddie Howe, but somehow came up again, so there's a hope with Wrexham with 2 Americans involved. Great to see a Welsh club in the top division after Swansea and Cardiff City!

Humphrey comes across like a top bloke. Seems to know his stuff as well. I don’t feel like there’s too much of a gap between League Two and League One, Wrexham very well could be competing again next year. The real problems start when you reach the Championship, like my club Millwall finds out every year. When you’ve got no money you’re competing against relegated Premier League sides who have hundreds of millions it’s a struggle. When you can only spend £2m-£5m on one player it’s very difficult to compete against clubs spending £15m-£20m on multiple players. Hence why you always see the same clubs getting promoted and relegated from the Premier League/Championship. The money is just ridiculous compared to the rest of the league.

The club needs to be able to sustain itself on its own for it to be a premier league club, stadium needs lots of work, academy needs to be one of the main focuses and needs to have money pumped into it, club needs a state of the art training facility too, need to slow it down a tad now and work on one thing at a time while finishing comfortably in league 1 for a few years.
@brianeleighton7 ай бұрын
They have already restarted their Academy and youth teams. Their u18 squad is on the verge of winning their league this year. Two players in the current Wrexham squad are already products of the Academy. They have been working on securing the space to build a Training facility as well. This is why Humphrey was saying they are a sleeping giant.

I don't understand why Wrexham can break every PSR/FFP rule that everyone is jumping up and down trying to stop newcastle from doing. Why can they use sponsorship they their owners,own the company directly or associated with. Why can they go on lucrative pre-season tours. Why can they operate at astronomical losses without point deductions like Everton and Forest. It really seems like these rules are only in place to stop teams form competing with the top... right I mean even city don't have to face their 115 charges and Chelsea can create new billion dollar window amortization periods. It's a joke. Why let this Lil club with Hollywood owners spend way over to be good but not let newcastle, Everton, villa ,place, forest or any other Prem club do it? Please explain
@Alex-zi1nb7 ай бұрын
They're not operating at astronomical loss pal. And you just rattled off a bunch of teams that don't get punished. Why are you butt hurt that wrexham can find success
@yardsale78597 ай бұрын
@Alex-zi1nb they are operating at huge losses. They have a payroll as high as most championship side. And the only reason they have even some what a reasonable revenue is because they sponsor their own team with their private companies and those of their friends. I'm not "butt hurt" as you say at all. I just want to know why they can do it but other teams in the Prem can't do it to catch the big 6. Good for them let them buy success. Let Everton, Place, villa, Newcastle, and every other team spend what they want to buy success as well make it fair. It would be awesome to see teams at the top with ambitious owners that want to win. Not rules that stop them from being successful. How would you feel is Wrexham acutely got promoted all the way to the Prem only to get a massive points deduction and immediately relegated.
@Stoggler7 ай бұрын
The Premier League has different rules to the EFL and National League, so any rules they have to stick to are different from the likes of Forest and Everton. The club is also being run by people (eg Shaun Harvey and Fleur Robinson) with a lot of experience in the game, so it would be highly unlikely they are breaking any financial rules. And why shouldn’t owners use their contacts to get good sponsorship deals for their clubs - it’s nothing new or original, and it’s good business.
@ddlee847 ай бұрын
Sorry to burst your bubble a little here about operating about having mid-tier championship level payrolls....but Wrexhams wage bill last year(from what I can find) was £5,221,320 the team that finished in 11th place in the Championship was Bristol City their wage bill was £9,832,680 so not that far off DOUBLE what Wrexhams was....also for context Forrest Green Rovers who finished bottom of League two had a wage bill of £3,425,240. So there is £2million between 2nd and rock bottom in terms of playing costs, that is not anywhere close to the disparity between the Top 6 of the Premier League and even 10th in the Premier League....Man Citys wages are £191,081,280 per year. 10th place Bournemouth(who are the type of team Wrexham could be) pay out £61,320,480 per year in player wages....so thats 3 times the money on wages purely between 2nd and 10th in the Premier League...also City are not even the biggest spenders....that is Man Utd at £208,572,520 per year in player wages. In terms of losses, they are thought to be around £5million as the club made £5million, but total costs for the year are closer to £10million. I don't even know what that included....judging from what Humphrey says here there has been some stadium work done and that will continue so they are improving the ability to earn money by making improvements....its not like Newcastle or Everton...who have piddled millions up the wall purely on Players....
