Not all players will make good managers or coaches. Once in a while a vanilla manager gets a great team like Leicester did and the manager is lauded as a genius without having to work with the likes of the current Utd squad as an example. Potter had a great side in Brighton. You should need to prove yourself across different squads and setups.

Mate, it's not just football. We don't invest in people in this country. Other countries do invest in people. So we import the people who are better than us. Invest in British football and you'll see a massive improvement in British coaches. But all the money is only allowed to go the absolute top.

Nicky butt coach wise talks a lot of sense, hope he gets his shot at a decent club, seems to understand the importance of timing and getting the right coaching team setup in from the start, some English managers are so grateful they are given a big club to manage that they jump in too soon like potter that Chelsea Job was too big for him. Better to build experience and lore among the game, for me though a key factor in a top manager is charisma it bails them out when the chips are down and allows them to get a group of players hungry for success

I have been saying for the LONGEST time, coaches come to England to do their FA coaching badges as the FA badges seem to be accepted everywhere around the world in the football fraternity. However, our coaches generally never go on to surpass academy level coaching, whilst as you see foreign managers dominate the prem and obviously outside of the prem! Remember, all the coaches foreign and English/British do the same Uefa B and A pro license, so where doesit actually go wrong! Forget for England, why are our managers not making it at the TOP clubs around the world in general? Championship, with the slight handful of prem managers is the most we can conjure! Southgate got torn apart by many in the England job and most people would have Arteta, Slot, Frank Arnesen and many more over him, yet he has more experience than Arteta etc. What English/British coach post Fergie have produced World class players? Beckham, Scholes, Giggs are players that could of been World Class in their day, but they were not on the likes of Zidane, R9, Ronaldiho level, but at least they were in a very high bracket! The coaches/ managers at the Elite level is not there and yes they do good work at academy level, but for the majority that is about it! How has Brighton manager come and landed a job at his age, before the English/British managers/Coaches?

English managers aren't given the SAME chances that equally qualified foreign managers get. Here's my proof. OGS got the Man Utd job after relegating Cardiff. Arteta got the Arsenal job with ZERO managerial experience. Paul Clement won EVERYTHING as Assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, Bayern and PSG. He wasn't given a big club as his first job. Poch got the Spurs job after finishing mid table with Southampton. Same with Nuno at Wolves before he was hired. Howe (with Bournemouth) and Dyche finished mid table and won nothing. They weren't considered for Spurs job. Slot and Ten Hag got the Liverpool / Man Utd jobs after only winning the Dutch League (the SAME trophy Steve McLaren won). Moyes and Rodgers were given the Man Utd and Liverpool jobs without any trophies. Plenty of English managers have been at least equally qualified as the above, but they AREN'T given chances at big clubs. The only one who has, was Potter and he was only given 5 months. Arteta took Arsenal BACKWARDS from 5th under Emery to 8th, yet he was given time but Potter wasn't.

So what is your theory? Someone actively is trying to not get english managers a big job? As for Howe and Dyche.....while Howe did a great job with Newcastle, Nuno had done it for longer. Got a team up from championship and punched way above its weight with two 7th places. It's not the same level of achievement at what Howe had done. Dyche.....we all know he is a defensive manager.....so it's a different argument for him. No top team wants to hire him. Steve McLaren won that league how many years ago? Paul Clement was an assist to Carlos perhaps, but Carlo isn't known for his style of play like Guardiola did.

A few points here to contest. Potter was not the only one, as Lampard was given a chance at Chelsea with missing out on promotion in the Championship being his only experience prior.
