Maybe her environment was not conducive for growth into psychological maturity. If Tanea is naturally a slow learner she may have turned off her desire for growth. The one thing that is/has stunted her growth is that she doesn't want to provide for her own. In her first interview, she said she can't be paying her own bills. With that being the case, she will not fight to provide a proper environment for growth for her children. She just wants her daughter to be safe living the same lifestyle that she herself is living. What's needed here is a WHOLE lot of sincere prayer from people who sincerely believe God, AND then, an intervention. But prayers for them cannot stop for life and neither can the human intervention that have the wisdom and resources to help them, including helping them become helpers of others.

My mother assisted my ex husband from parentally alienating my child from me and when I went to check on her she called the police on me. Mark - as always thank you for the work you do. I want to make a few points on my POV to go along with all of the comments here. 1. I have watched all of the videos here on Tanea and Nova. 2. After reading the first 100 or so top rated comments, I noticed a language barrier and bias among the comments. Tanea is speaking a local LA-hood dialect and slang of the greater American familial-dialect of American hood, gangster, ghetto. You see, Tanea is speaking words that have alternate meanings from what you are most familiar, and uncommon stress words in her sentences causing you to make assumptions based on YOUR language. Unless you are from there, close with people from there, you can be misunderstanding the exact context intended by Tanea. 3. I happen to have a son that has been difficult to raise, due to the same "not caring" attitude as described from Nova. This is difficult to parent, even for the best of us parents. Tanea talked about her own 'don't care" attitude and how she fought with her mother, but still she chased the streets. I think people sub-consciously pick the harder road for themselves. 4. Based on my familiarity with her dialect, I did not get triggered by all of the words, instead I heard a mother stuck in a generational cycle of drama/trauma who is literally at her wits end trying to make it through another day. Priorities shifting by the moment, the experience and the reactions from life around her. This is a hard life that they are walking. It is unpredictable, filled with drama, trauma and alienation. It is a learned life from the previous generation. These types of things are passed down until we heal the wounds. Some say it takes 3 generations to heal generational traumas, but alcoholism has been around for our lineage since forever, so whatever. 5. Nova is going to do what ever she wants with the 'don't care' attitude until she realizes that she does in fact care. She will have a road to walk to get on path for what she wants. like NOT getting more face tattoos!! It will be great is Mark had some guiding light in her decision. The question in her lifetime will be, "will she pass this hurt on to her child?". I hope, for her sake, she heals and Tanea heals so they can love each other again. Thanks again for being vulnerable and sharing your story. I love SWU because I love to hear everyone's story. Bless you all.

What can I say. A woman with the mental maturity of her 13/14 year old daughter. I think she is speaking the truth as she sees it with her inmature mind. Thats why she doesn't take responsibility. The daughter stated in her interview that her mother noticed a change in her & didn’t like the change which is she suppose to? Now the daughter said that out her mouth. However I do think the mom is at fault because she did introduce her daughter to that environment. If she knew at that grown age by her growing up in that environment she was a product of it herself why in the world would you move your daughter there and then get mad when she meets prostitues in the streets and start doing what they doing when you moved her there to be exposed to that mess. Smh they both need healing and therapy together because that’s the only way they will fix the problem. The mom will never accept accountability for moving her there exposing her to that life. And the daughter will never admit to what she’s doing is because she wants to do it: because she also stated she met girls in the streets and that’s how she started doing it in the first place. She even said in the interview she wasn’t sure if her mom was a prositute and how she doesn’t believe she was but she hear stories so her mom kept her away from that lifestyle.
