Tank, listen. I want to give you GIANT props, for being honest about yourself. Seriously. The reaction community is thoroughly infested with reaction channels who will say they love absolutely everything they watch, just to please the viewer. What you just did, and what I hope you will keep doing, is to have the balls to state your subjective opinion even if it goes against your numbers. THANK YOU for being yourself. Seriously. Oh and btw, I like the Amaranthe version better. 😀 So There you have it. I am actually glad you dislike (or should I say "aren't keen on") something I like. 😀

I think whats important for reaction channels is expand on the reasons they feel about the song they react to. Tank does this very well, he explains what he likes, why he likes it and the same goes in case he dislikes something. And I think that's how it should be. But there are many reaction channels that just say: "this is bad" and end the video right there without further explanation. And I think a "this is great" is easier to digest for the listener because he feels the same way (usually) than "this is bad". However in both cases I think the reactor should provide additional information WHY he feels the way he does. So props to Tank, you're doing this very well. And I also appreciate the honesty to say that you don't like something.

Amaranthe has kind of a sound of their own.... They are hard to label as a specific type of metal.... The mesh styles of metal with pop and electronica in a way that absurdly works...even when it shouldn´t... I can´t think of another band that pulls that mixture of so consistantly as they do...

I really like that you don't hide if you don't necessarily like something, appreciate the authenticity. Big respect my man! When I heard Amaranthe for the first time, I was very conflicted with how I feel about them. I wasn't sure if it's my thing or not, sounded weird. Took me a little bit of time, but I think I just let the thought of them being their own thing sink in, and it worked. I'm very versatile when it comes to the music I like, so they kind of tick the sweet spot between all the music genres that I like. I was conflicted long time ago, now they're one of my favourite bands :)

My personal opinion: Sabaton captures the spirit & grit, & guts of the story. Sabaton takes the stories of heroes *VERY* seriously. 82nd All the Way is a harsh song about the bravery of a single man. You can hear it. That means a shit ton to me being from a military family. (Also my baby cousin is and has been in the 82nd for years. So proud of him!) Amaranthe’s version is fun and catchy, which is fine. It sounds good. I love Amaranthe, but I think as good it sounds from a production standpoint, they don’t get the meat of the story and that comes through. Love this song. I prefer Sabaton. Thanks for the honest and authentic reaction. Amaranthe definitely had a huge multilayered fun sounding, catchy version of the chorus.

Amaranthe constructed their version of the song as a tribute to Sabaton, frankly I am glad they chose to play it 'their way.' The more I listen to them the more I like them, 'Manifest' is a wonderful album. That said I am a Sabaton fan first and the song as they deliver it is how I like it best but having Nils, Henrik and Elize on stage during the Great Tour was all kinds of fun. Kind of like the tunes Apocalyptica played on stage with Sabaton during that tour, just a fun evening of music.

I love both bands, but I think Sabaton's style of "storytelling" songs work better being delivered by a single vocalist. Splitting it up among three people with dramatically different vocal styles kind of disrupts the "flow" of the story.

i really like Amarathe's studio version of this song. i dont know why but sabaton's studio version just doesnt hit the spot for me. however, Sabaton's live version and recordings just capature exactly what the song is and should be. it captures the grit and rawness. Amarathe is brillant for getting the party going, getting through a long shift at work. but when i need to rock out. head bang, i always shoot for the live version of the original

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. The chorus is a banging celebration of the man, where as the verse is much more emotional and has more feel about the subtlety of the situation. Amaranthe didn’t quite communicate that emotion but smashed the celebration.

My Feelings on it are pretty simple: Sabaton has the Darker-sounding more historic version Amaranthe's Cover is a more up-tempo version that really catches the chorus of it, but loses some of the "Tone" the original has The live performance, is probably one of my favorites, it's awesome to see them singing it alongside the original band, and then closing out the end of it with Joakim Joining them and adding his voice to it. It's bloody epic. And yeah, Amaranthe themselves are just...Unique, it's an interesting Trio of vocalists and they really aren't afraid to swap styles from song to song (Compare Archangel, 365, and GG6 for instance, and that's not even getting into the older stuff they've done) They satisfy that "Metal" feeling at the same time as the "Pop" feeling, makes their music a regular part of my background listening.

This reaction was really interesting to watch, as I kind of struggled with what to think of Amaranthe. First of all I do not like their version of this song. Joakim's voice and the original version has a depth and a nerve that I find no trace of in Amaranthe's version. To me - a bit difficult to pin point - but it's like Amaranthe made this cover, thinking "Ok, let's make a cool version of this song", but the result comes out as mainstream in my ears. I hadn't seen this studio version before and what a loop hole! They used the same footage and film sequences over and over again! Something you can put up with from a small hobby band doing their own recording, but not from a band of this size. I have more or less dived into listening to Amaranthe, I really really gave it an open-ear-and-heart chance and it ended up in that there are some great songs, f.e. Archangel, Fearless and Breakthrough Starshot, but in the whole, doesn't work for me, not even in the top 50 bands in my list. Even their best songs, I like them when listening to them, but the songs don't "stay with me", if that makes any sense.

First off, big props for keeping it real and being entirely honest about how you feel rather than trying to pander to groups of fans, i really do appreciate that. Second, i wholeheartedly agree with your opinions and comparisons. There really is something about the original that just isn't properly captured in the cover in my opinion. That being said, to be fair i am biased as i'm a longtime sabaton fan and not much of a fan of Amaranthe. But yeah, Joakim's voice and the power in it just works way better IMO. I'll also agree to your sentiment at the end where you calrify that this isn't about the amount of heaviness or whatever, it just doesn't quite gel with me.

Amaranthe is a band that while I personally love to listen to, they aren't the band I go to to blow my mind. They don't do much that's really unique in a way that hasn't been done before, but they are definitely masters of the sound they produce. What they absolutely do at a top tier level is produce high quality music videos. The songs you listened to previously I wasn't a big fan of myself, but I feel like you could really enjoy some of their older stuff like either The Nexus, Mechanical Illusion, or Hunger. Here’s the thing with them that’s throwing you off, they’re taking nearly symphonic metal female vocals (Nightwish/ Epica) and crossing it with Damn near death metal vocals, ( Suplatura/ Canible Coarpse) with standard metal vocals and the actual music follows with it, at least that’s my take. They’re not bad, just different, and it catches you off guard because of the changes in direction. And sorry for misspelling band names, I suck at that, but all in all they’re not bad just different

I never used to like Amaranthe either but that has changed and I love them now. Not sure what the turning point was exactly, but it could have been after seeing them live as they put on a great show even as support and not headlining.

I have a feeling they made the cover and video very quickly since they were the opening act for Sabaton and this was released in conjunction with that tour. Joakim Brodén also recorded a song with the other opening band, Apocalyptica. I guess it's something they do for fun when they travel together :-)

I get it about Amaranthe, there's something about them that just sits outside all the normal metal subgenres; they blend savagely heavy with synth-pop in a way that shouldn't work. They do definitely have a few dud songs, but absolutely have more good than bad. Try 1000 Lightyears, Digital World, Helix, Viral as a few examples. On a note about the cover, I think this must be a thing they do when they tour with bigger bands, as they also released a cover of Powerwolf's "Army of the Night" when they went on tour with them.

As the gear guy I’ve got a question for ya. The end of the live version the lights go out and I heard it’s because one of the Amaranthe singers was still on the stage where fire was going to go off and they had to shut down that section so they didn’t light him up. What’s your take on that? Loved the reaction and loved the honesty!
@TankTheTech
@TankTheTech 3 жыл бұрын
I would say that’s exactly what was supposed to happen. A blackout like that usually happens when a special effect is going to go off to make it look better and stand out. The fact that it didn’t is a sign of a great Pyrotechnician knowing when to NOT press the button.

Hearing you talk about logistics of bringing another person with an instrument on stage made me remember something about Sabaton. I don't know of any specific videos but in 2019 they did a show at Wacken where it was the bands 20th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Wacken and they played BOTH main stages at the same time, bringing back all their old members to play their set with them. Would definitely love to hear the tech side of a show done like that for the first time. Love the reactions though, keep it up.

That’s a little different, since they had time in advance to prepare and made sure they had all the appropriate stuff for that one specific show.

You've described my experience with Amaranthe in this video too. I bounced off of their songs a few times before something really stuck. They have a unique sound that you really don't find anywhere else; three vocalists, with both cleans and growls, some pop, some rock, some metal, some heavy crunch. They go all over the place, which for me, means that I find some songs I really love and others I don't care for. On the bright side, you never get bored with checking them out, because it is so different and they can play with so much variety. I definitely enjoy Amaranthe's cover of 82nd All The Way, and I LOVE Elize Ryd's voice generally, but I feel that Joaquim's voice tells this story more naturally, which I think is what you were getting at as well.

Tank, you’re at the stage I was at when I first came across Amaranthe, exactly what you said, I wasn’t instantly grabbed but I loved certain elements and yet I was hooked in enough by their uniqueness with having 3 singers with different styles and with the blend of metal and dance beats and electronics. And now I’d list them amongst my fave bands, there’s an energy they have which is fused into the music, most of their stuff is so upbeat and catchy and great for working out to. Makes you feel good and feel like getting up and doing something. Yet as you point out, some parts of their songs are heavy as f**k! I recommend the following tracks :- The Nexus Hunger GG6 Boom! Maximize Helix 🙂🤘🏻

So re: your comments on guest instrumental folk on stage during the headliner: they brought all of Apocalyptica (incl. The drummer) out to perform for fields of verdun. It added a fantastic depth to the sound and I think really made it amazing. Love to see your reaction to it.

As someone who has a spotify playlist with just the two versions of 82nd all the way on it, I think I can say that I love both versions. Amaranthe's version a tiny bit more, but it's like if Amaranthe is 95/100 then Sabaton is 94/100. I agree with those comments saying that Sabaton's version has a much closer connection between the lyrics and the music. But, great reaction as always!

At 16:37 one of the Amaranthe vocalists misses his cue to leave that front podium, in order to get away from a flame effect. You can tell, because all the others leave, and the stage goes pitch dark for a second. Fortunately, these effects seem to be manually controlled (safety?), while the lights are programmed.

Hey Tank! I keep 3 channels at the end of my input list that I call my "oh by the way" channels. I usually get a clear com call saying hey guess what near the end of the show. An Engl story. In 89 I was touring with Victory from Germany. We were all Engl. We were doing 40 shows with Gary Moore across Europe and Scandinavia. We just got a bunch of new heads in and I was unboxing them and I hear "fucking hell, new Engls " . It was Gary. He asked if he could try one. I hooked him up and I got to sit next to him for half hour while he wailed away. Definitely one of my favorite tour memories.

Interesting fact: at 16:40 their would have been a big explosion. As you can see that's why the stage lights go off, and that's why all of them goes a little bit back except for the growling Amaranthe guy, he forgot it. You can see the other Amaranthe guy trying to save him. Fortunately the Sabaton crew was aware, and they set the pyro off.

I feel like Amaranthe is this band who does everything for fun, their stuff is filled with the silly and comic take on music, so they're great with the celebratory part of the song, but just can't get into the more serious part. Their songs can be heavy and about some important subjects, but it's all fun and enegetic.

I definitely understand yoiur feelings with Amaranthe. I was the same way at first. They were a band I was like "eh, they're a niche style, something fun every once in awhile" and then one day it really did just click for me and they're now one of my favorites. Don't know if there was any song in particular that did it to me though.

I'm left-handed, and I've been drumming for 12+ years, and I almost exclusively play right-handed because that's just how I learned. I don't think I've heard anyone ever notice in a live song if someone was left-handed and I'm a nerd so I always get excited when someone is. Also, I really appreciate your honest reaction! I LOVE a lot of their songs, but some are just... kinda generic rock songs to me. Elize is a great singer in general, even in covers and other artist's songs she appears on.

I love Tank Facts. Always hit pause to read them. They remind me of VH1’s Pop Up videos from years ago. Ps - I jammed with a left-handed drummer once and it was sooo weird. Seeing the rolls going in the opposite direction didn’t compute with my brain.

My favourite thing about the music video for Amaranthes version is that it's not so serious, you can really see how much fun they have in the studio, I love Elizes antics throughout the video, she seems like she would be an absolute blast to hang out with! As for the song, their version was according to Spotify my most streamed song of 2020 so it's pretty clear that it's the version I prefer, and for me, it's just more of a headbanger than the original, When I first heard it, Im pretty sure I gave myself a mild concussion from playing it on repeat and headbanging my ass off, specially during that chorus! Absolutely not saying I dont like the original, I totally get the way Sabaton did the song and it fits the story better for sure, and I will always be a humongous Sabaton fan!
