Man oh man, this hits home. I worked in big law firms for three years because that’s what my college environment taught me was best. It took me three years and two firms to realize that I hate practicing law. It’s daunting to think that you’re leaving the “prestigious” world behind, but I’ve slept so much better since I left. Thanks for making this video Taylor, I’ve been a silent listener for quite some time and absolutely love your content!!

I was in-house strategy consulting for a Fortune 50 healthcare company after grad school.. your comment on advising vs. doing really stands out as the reason that I left after a little over a year. In my case that "doing" was actually delivering healthcare on the micro level. I went to med school and I'm a resident anesthesiologist now, by far much happier and a much better fit for my personality; although there are so many things that I learned from my time in consulting that continue to benefit me on a day to day basis that I also wouldn't have changed it looking back. Very valuable input on consulting, I was going through the same thing as a fresh graduate, deciding to work for B&C or JP Morgan. I went for JPM and it was the best most challenging decision I've ever made. A lot of what I do has a much bigger tangible impact than it would ever do in consulting. Fun fact, many of the entrepreneurs I met that came to us told us they would never hire a consultant in a front office position for their business because of their inexperience with making decisions of consequence. That conversation was something that stayed with me ever since and made me glad of my decision. Consulting is a respectable field but definitely not for those that feed on tangible achievements. Best of success on your entrepreneurial journey!

I love what you shared about not regretting your corporate experiences because it helped you to gain conviction for following your current path. There are definitely times I find myself being self critical about being off “my path” in my younger years. But your wisdom is spot on… Sometimes we have to feel what “not right“ feels like in order to find what feels “right”. I studied biomedical engineering in college, worked in IT sales for four years after college, then spent time living abroad, some years floundering to find my way, and now at 39, I am finally transitioning into my passion, which is helping people heal from trauma through somatic experiencing and other bodywork. I always love the Steve Jobs quote that we can’t connect the dots looking forward, we can only connect them looking backwards.

I think it's truely admirable to be honest about the influence of the top 3 prestige on your decision making. Ngl though I faced numerous rejections and didn’t feel fazed one bit, not making it because of my unfamiliarity and lack sufficient case practice (as a non-business major) for that situation and another interview with my favorite bank, I did feel down for a bit but I was so grateful that I made it that far, especially with the sheer competition in thousands of applicants. Even some months after the rejection from these 2 places, I still think of “what if” just as you touched upon in the video.
