Man oh man, this hits home. I worked in big law firms for three years because that’s what my college environment taught me was best. It took me three years and two firms to realize that I hate practicing law. It’s daunting to think that you’re leaving the “prestigious” world behind, but I’ve slept so much better since I left. Thanks for making this video Taylor, I’ve been a silent listener for quite some time and absolutely love your content!!

I was in-house strategy consulting for a Fortune 50 healthcare company after grad school.. your comment on advising vs. doing really stands out as the reason that I left after a little over a year. In my case that "doing" was actually delivering healthcare on the micro level. I went to med school and I'm a resident anesthesiologist now, by far much happier and a much better fit for my personality; although there are so many things that I learned from my time in consulting that continue to benefit me on a day to day basis that I also wouldn't have changed it looking back. Looking forward to more content!

I felt the same thing about Consulting as I was approaching graduation - except that I got into another path down into the Corporates / Brands instead (and loving where I am today for the same exact reasons about being more "in the game"). Congrats on the new journey, your passion and self-awareness will take you where you need to be!

I don't normally comment but what you said at the end about how you would not go back and change anything because it has given you the conviction today to pursue your new goals really resonated with me. I've moved about a bunch of corporate jobs in the last few years, not feeling satisfied, and have finally come to the realisation that medicine is the right path for me but I don't regret anything now from that corporate experience because it taught me what I truly value in a career. Thank you Taylor for reaffirming my thoughts :))

I feel so often that nowadays our society ignores the true value of having a simple joy by doing what you love, no matter if this is widely accepted as something „prestige“ or „privileged“. Hi Taylor. I totally understand those reasons in the second part of the video and I do share your preferences to be 100% involved in things you're doing, to make the impact, to influence the way things progress, to be responsible, to be the decision-maker, to actually do stuff, to get the results that ARE correlated with the amount of effort. It's a pleasure to watch your journey.

I think it's truely admirable to be honest about the influence of the top 3 prestige on your decision making. I've seen consultants get really warped expectations and understandings esp. as they grow later into the career and partly it's this idea of prestige and influence on large deals with companies. Thank you for telling us your journey and for being transparent, I also was able to land the first interview for my top MBB choice, but I didn’t make it. Ngl though I faced numerous rejections and didn’t feel fazed one bit, not making it because of my unfamiliarity and lack sufficient case practice (as a non-business major) for that situation and another interview with my favorite bank, I did feel down for a bit but I was so grateful that I made it that far, especially with the sheer competition in thousands of applicants. Even some months after the rejection from these 2 places, I still think of “what if” just as you touched upon in the video. I’m so glad you made your way to your passion and we the subs will continue to support you in your KZbin journey, cheers!

I love what you shared about not regretting your corporate experiences because it helped you to gain conviction for following your current path. There are definitely times I find myself being self critical about being off “my path” in my younger years. But your wisdom is spot on… Sometimes we have to feel what “not right“ feels like in order to find what feels “right”. I studied biomedical engineering in college, worked in IT sales for four years after college, then spent time living abroad, some years floundering to find my way, and now at 39, I am finally transitioning into my passion, which is helping people heal from trauma through somatic experiencing and other bodywork. I always love the Steve Jobs quote that we can’t connect the dots looking forward, we can only connect them looking backwards.

Congratulations on your decision Taylor!! There are very few if any things as satisfying as making your own decision and knowing deeply it is what you want and what's best for you. Any fun travel plans or events coming up or other celebrations? Great video btw!!

This is so inspiring, I'm so happy for you Taylor :) I'm also in consulting and someone who is both analytical and creative, and I've been feeling the cognitive dissonance for a while now when it comes to delivering advisory and implementation work where I don't have 'skin in the game'. I also thought that eventually I would grow to find meaning and fulfilment if I focused on my craft rather than the client/industries themselves but the passion hasn't grown so I'm making changes soon. Your journey has been so inspiring and validating to how I'm feeling!

This is EXACTLY what I've been trying to articulate about my focus with my career. I started a business to "have skin in the game" and make a direct impact with my work, because I felt unfulfilled in my consulting job never seeing the actual impact while also dealing with corporate politics that got in the way of truly impactful projects. I'm still passionate about the same areas but came back to consulting to get just a bit more experience in my areas of passion, and my goal is to do exactly what you're doing in the next few years- build social media content around my passions that helps people, all while allowing me to tap into my creativity full-time 💪🏽
