How many people can hit those high notes, male or female, without showing extreme effort? Bobby looks so relaxed as he hits those notes without any apparent real effort. He makes it looks so easy, although we all know it is anything but easy. His voice is so soft and calming, yet attention getting! Bobby Hatfield was a master vocalist, and owns this song!

I am 81 and have heard several artists before Bobby’s version and several after. No one comes close to this, Bobby owns it. This version came out as I was headed for Viet Nam. You can feel the loneliness in the words and the way we felt as we were away from our families for one long year. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of their albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do “Unchained”, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we know. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

No auto-tune, we didn't need it! We had talent, back in the day! This one man, Bobby Hatfield, had talent and honed his craft to perfection! Today's singers do not have to struggle to try to attain perfection, because they know that perfection, or someting that is considered close to perfect, can be reached through some type of musical enhancement such as AUTO-TUNE! This song was wonderful and he was not alone in striving to be the best he possibly could be! Most successful singers or entertainers, struggled to attain greatness! Most of them did not reach it; but a few did! The Righteous Brothers and ELVIS PRESLEY are two Musical Sensations that lived up to their name! They BOTH took it to the heights of what was successful at the time! They have lasted and remain completely unbeatable, memorable, and remarkable! ALMOST 50 years after ELVIS sang his last notes live, he is still in demand. It is the same with the wonderful Righteous Brothers. Now, an entirely new generation has the opportunity to discover the MUSIC that was revolutionized by the singers that began in the 1950's and 1960's! They were SPECTACULAR! ❤ 😅 ❤

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something right because we're still together. With 4 children, 7 grandchildren and a great grandson, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served on active duty for my late Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and in the British Special Forces, and then 3 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 15, and that's when I fell for her.
