Teacher Vlog #1 | First Day of School!

I know you guys have been waiting! This is NOT the kind of first day vlog I wanted to share with you all, but I am no longer allowed to show video of my room (I am allowed pictures!) Thank you so much for understanding and being so so kind and patient. I feel incredibly supported by you all, and I appreciate every kind word and piece of encouragement you have shown me after I got the news I wasn’t allowed to film in my classroom. I hope we can all just laugh at this video, and I hope none of you are upset! I am working on creating a filming space in my spare bedroom where I can create the kind of content that I want (because a screen full of my face is NOT it haha!) I want you guys to know that I am here for you, and I want you to see what being a first-year teacher is like for me. Sharing my experiences and feelings on here is something that is hard to do (especially since I know people in my life now know this KZbin exists) but I do it to help future teachers and to connect with you and share ideas. People have mentioned that I should look into getting a P.O. box as well - is that something you guys would like? It seems like there are a lot of pros to it, but it just feels awkward to me! Haha! I have filmed a couple more videos for you guys (I may be able to post another *very* soon :) and I promise these vlogs will NOT be this way forever. I just wanted to share with you the genuine feelings I had! I hope you guys are having a great year so far, whether you’re teaching, parenting, going to school, or just hanging out there being awesome. You’re the best.

I am so proud of you for not giving up. I can only imagine getting the news about not being able to film in your room. I think it would be a mix of emotions. Amber Wood I’m assuming someone had an issue and nipped it in the bud before it could happen. But in part of the video she did film the kids and we heard their voices so she had some thought that should could record them on a personal device without permission. In my district we can’t even post kids in the yearbook if they don’t have a form.

It's pretty standard in any school setting that you can't film the students. Most vloggers just film themselves during break, prep, recess, etc. We have media releases in our school, but it's only, specifically, for our school website and for no other social media. The children's identity must be kept private for their safety.

Haha the kid that said "I fumbled into my clothes this morning..." is such a big mood! Kids are so funny! I'm not a teacher (yet), but I do volunteer at the Sunday "School" at my church as one of the teachers there! I teach the Pre-K/Kindergarten level (we have normal grade levels up to 8th grade haha) along with an adult and I have so much fun with them! We don't actually do that much religious stuff (most of them are 3 or 4.. so) it's a lot of coloring and reading kiddie bible stories. I also do little origami and paper craft stuff for them. A LOT of paper airplanes....I've been doing it for 3 years and about to start my 4th year during my senior year of high school! :D And some of my kids make me cry laughing...they are so cute and funny :)

I filmed this video BEFORE I found out I can't film in my classroom. So what I meant was once I post the "old" videos (previously filmed) they will not be zoomed in because they will be outside of my classroom. The quality of a zoomed in video is very sad haha! So I will be filming in my spare bedroom with a set I am creating and outside of the room. I will be able to post pictures and talk alongside them as well!

Congrats on the first day! I've been waiting for an update. I just finished my second full week of school our 13th day. Our first day of school always send super early (11:00 for kindergarten and 11:30 for everyone else), so there really isn't time for anything. We do a school tour by going on a bear hunt with clues leading to different places and it's a lot of fun. But my first day of teaching ever...unfortunately I don't remember that one either as it was such a blur! I'm sorry you can't film in your room anymore. I can understand somewhat, as I assume it's for the children's safety, but I'd love to be able to see how your room changes and you make adjustments as the year goes on. At least you have a nice face to see so close!

She even has a video about it where she explains what she did to get approval to film in her class. Might be worth the try if you're really wanting to.

In kinder they sent my niece on the wrong bus, it was still to our neighborhood, but because she's kinder and a parent wasn't out there. She didn't get off! I was so freaked out, but they called me. Lesson learned for my kid, i made sure she knew her bus!

YES. It is so important for the kids to know their bus especially Kinder babies 💛 our school has dismissal tags so if they forget they have that and adults can easily direct them. We do a very good job at our school!

My little girl started kindergarten. She had great first day came home so excited. The second day she came home sad and didn't want to go back the next day. Dropped her off crying. What do you recommend as a teacher I could do to help her? Love your personality♡

That is so normal I promise! I have one sweet girl who came in crying doe the first few days and then would do okay until after lunch. Now she is better! She genuinely misses her mother when she's at school. She has a very strong attachment to her! And that is OKAY! I would keep a conversation about how important school is, how much she can learn, the friends she can make, etc. Just anything positive at all! If you have something discreet you can give her like a necklace or bracelet that reminds her of you that may help too. Maybe you could both make one together :) adjusting will take time! She will love kindergarten!

I remember my first day of kindergarten. Where i lived and at that time we had am and pm kindergarten classes and i had a pm class. That caused little kindergartener me to ride two different buses. All kindergarteners first and second graders had these little badges that said which bus you were on ect. and the bus driver was supposed to check them every time you got on the bus for like the first month of school to make sure it was right. For some reason the teacher who put me in my line didn't check the after school section and just the before school part. So i was put in the wrong bus line to start, then the bus driver, who was different to mine before school, didn't check my tag even though i was clearly an awkward kindergartener. The lady completely ignored me saying that i sat there a few hours ago and then a fourth grader kicked me out of my seat and i had to go sit a few seats back where she definitely couldn't see short little me. So after like five stops when everyone was off the bus except for me, so the lady yelled to me "Why didn't you get off at your stop?" like literally yelled at little me so i just replied with, "you haven't stopped at it," all innocently. She then got more mad and yelled at me to go to the front so she could finally check my tag. When she saw that i was on the wrong bus she yelled at me for doing it wrong, even though i tried to get on the right bus but they wouldn't let me. So the pissed off bus driver just stopped on a random street and kicked me off, leaving me yelling for my mom. I wasn't close to home like at all and we had just moved their so i didn't know the address. I was lucky that a lady that worked at a middle school found me and not a kidnapper, but it was really awkward because i had a really small bladder as a kid (sorry TMI ik) so when i had to pee i made the lady stand outside her house while i ran in and peed quickly (poor lady.) My schools counselor ended up coming to get me and i had to sit at my school for like an hour while my mom tried to borrow a car. Worst experience ever. I will never forget my first day of school ever. I hated buses after that day.

I'm not sure. I think it depends on how much time you get in your room on the first day! Maybe be sure to have a good system set of for organizing ALL OF THE PAPERS! Haha :) there were and still are so so many.
