My spaniel would not recall outside(every time in garden or house) Went and bought a long lead after watching this! 2 days of training and she comes back like a locomotive!!! Over the moon 😊 😃

Just the information I need to work with my senior rescue Miniature Pinscher. I don't think Min Pins should ever be trusted off lead. However, this will help in getting him to understand that we are in this walk together. Oh, and you are very correct in stressing how a dog reacts to prey is different on and off lead. Add in an animal, squirrels, sheep, rabbit, that takes off running and the dog could be long gone before it realizes you're no longer part of the picture.

Wish I had this information 7 years ago.....my lurcher is usually pretty good on wait command....this morning in a peaceful park, for a change.....the church bell started.....bolted straight out of the park......lucky she ran back to the flat, neighbour waited with her....only 300 yards from the park.....and I live on a main road....thought she was going to be hit.....loud noise is a nightmare.....any advice, cross collie/wheaton greyhound lurcher....7 years old

This video just helped me connect the dots that my dog’s recall became less reliable after I started rewarding check ins. Will stop doing that and see if I can get it back to where it was before, thank you!

Do you have a book? Your videos are amazing, your style, the real dogs everything, but I really enjoy tactile feeling of a book.

this stuff works , and works well BUT remember people, he is very good trainer who has impeccable timing, persistence, and the little things he probably doesn’t even know he does. a master golfer makes it look easy… watch, learn but do not get impss as impatient. this isn’t done in 2 days

He is a real Professional Trainer, he has had more dogs through his hands in a year than most have in a lifetime . His help saved my dogs life as she was a sheep chaser and a strong willed high prey drive ( lurchers) dog.

What about check-ins on off leash walks? Im trying to train that as well. How do i teach it if not rewarding if the dog volunteers a looking back or coming back? Does anyone know by chance? Thx

Great video! Is the whistle essential for this training or if the dog already responds to their name you can use that instead? Long lead looks great and I'll be picking one up.

What whistle for Labrador? Is it 3 sharp whistles for recall signal?

Mate, if you know anyone that can help a couple of 80 year olds with a nightmare lurcher (9 months old) with recall in the south east, can you post, yes it was a really bad idea for them, but we are where we are, they live south east Herne bay 👍🙏

Hi my FAST high prey drive dog (similar to one in video) if I put her on a long line, she goes from 0-100 in seconds & then gets jolted as she reaches the end of her lead fast & doesn't come when called before then. I don't want her to injure herself. What do you suggest pse? Thanks.

It's a pity the woke dog trainer's follow and learn from the master!! Fantastic as always 😊

Hi Jamie, I do "reward " a chk in with a "yes" but not food...my "yes" has always been delivered before the treat , so if dog head turns I bingo it yes and they return... they get a pat or play and sent on ...should i drop this? Cripes i teach this way.

Marking (“yes”) and rewarding (pat/praise) a non-cue’d response erodes the value of the cue.

Does it work without treats.

Don't weaken the response by rewarding every time the dog "checks in". OK. That is something I needed to learn because I've been training for loose lead walking, but that's not nearly as important as recalling to not chase an animal, for my dog's safety and life.

Just brought a GSP..she’s two years old..she worked well for the prior owner (witnessed myself) I’m into the second week with her and I can honestly say it’s a struggle..the plan is to work her with my goshawk..she’s quit pulling on the lead, but as soon as the lead is off she is gone..she’s working for herself..any advice..cheers

Anything for a treat + whistle +treat +praise = recall , notice how the dog persists in wanting your treats and not you , you are the provider :)
