GREAT tips coach! I remember seeing and being taught these concepts / ideas early in my grappling practice, but I did not fully grasp them. Now, after a few years, they make much more sense to me and I understand them with greater depth. Thank you for the quality content and clear instructions as always! They help a ton and I'm a big fan :)

Ok now we're finally getting to the heart of the matter here. Recovering to guard (or worse, straight up pulling guard) when you have space to get up or single/double leg your opponent (or, better, punch him) because of BJJ habits is dangerous. I feel like Coach Peterson has so much more to say on that topic.

An MMA fight (and obviously a street fight) will be a higher adrenaline situation than a BJJ match because of the added danger, adrenaline gives you tunnel vision and some of your technique goes out the window. All this to say that explosive "basic" moves can have success in those situations because your opponent isn't thinking clearly, they are just reacting.

Gospel! We need to drill this so much more than guard Armbars. Ironically using this movement to off balance Uke will make any proceeding guard attack more successful. As always, great stuff.

6:45 Coach spilling truth here. Good stuff here. Even though coach often talks jiu-jitsu in the videos, it's clear that his mindset and overall game plan is wrestling; and Catch wrestling mindset in particular.
@lordtains2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that was a really good point; fall back to guard when standing up or transitioning to top position isn't possible.
@pppo39992 жыл бұрын
Grappling for MMA based in wrestling and jiu jitsu. With lot of wrestling because it is what works but not catch wrestling at all.

You have to think street survival. We cross train Judo and Traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu with striking most Judo Clubs are also training street survival but you're correct don't recover guard get out everytime because the punching will continue of you're stuck on bottom

Wow!! So basic but at the same time price less.
@mikebassett91954 күн бұрын
I personally believe the advance escapes only make sense when you know the basic escapes. I believe BJJ would be much more effective to learn if it starts from defending an idiot throwing strikes.

so im still new to wrestling and me and my cousin have been tring to learn stuff and we both do well but takedowns and hand fighting are the worst for me becuase he has a crazy strong wizzer every time i get a underhook and leave any space which means i just dont go for under hooks ever he even gets double over unders like standing im a big dude and hes not to so im always worried about high amplitude stuff like i can get a lock and lift. ive also had a terrible time learning knees over toe drills and doubble legs and that stuff because of said bigness even with mats lol just wondering if you can make a video on any or all of this or just some advice lol
