Tearing Down My YZ250 Engine! Part 3

In todays episode of my 2006 YZ250 two stroke build, I begin tearing down the engine. I am tearing the engine down because I plan to do a full rebuild on the engine to get it set up for some upcoming races. The teardown consists of me taking the engine all the way down to the cases, transmission, and crankshaft. While tearing down the engine, I notice a few good size metal shavings in the engine. My best guess, before I start looking at the engine components, is that the shavings are coming from the transmission. After the engine is completely torn down, I begin the process to get the cases ready to be coated with Cerakote.

You should do the clutch cover and fly wheel cover and all the covers black then do like a burnt bronze on one of the cases like Cameron niemela. Just an idea.

Im currently in the process of doing my 2017 kxf 250, ive gone with cobolt, its matt charcoal with a tiny amount of flake, my personal opinion is that bright colours like blue or anything makes it look cheap n nasty, like a rattle can home job, but thats just me, the charcoal is simple and clean looking.

@@adampaganelli4891 definitely, currently im still riding every weekend but I usually finish here in England about November time, depending on weather, then I strip the bike n refresh engine, suspension and grease/change bearings so Ive only coated the water pump cover and the clutch/water pump housing so far but will be doing the cases and other parts at the end of the year. I Love watching bike builds, cant wait for the yz end result!!

Hey Adam nice build bro. Have you done anything with the 1991 yz250? I have an issue with the clutch arm not returning/springing back. I have checked for a return spring on the parts catalogue and can't find a return spring anywhere in the pics it uses a push rod system and I checked the rod to see if it was bent but it's not. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Ben. Glad you’re enjoying the series. I was super happy with how the engine stand worked and I think it will probably work even better on assembly. The parts washer is just a cheap harbor freight model and the sandblaster I picked up used for a good price. I think the company went out of business because I can’t find them anywhere. Great blaster though haha👍🏼
