When they play this live there are little lighted up drones flying around the arena like moths. They really know how to put on a show.

They did this song with Lady Gaga for some award show a few years ago (James' mic didn't work) but in the rehearsal it did. Whenever I hear that little riff at 0:37 I think of her wiggly/snakey move

I saw Metallica for the first time in 94. I've seen them 4 other times since and they never disappoint. I've been to a ton of concerts but no one puts on a show like Metallica.

1994? I watched the open for Ozzy in 1985. And my parents locked my up for testing positive for thc the next day lol. I didnt hit anything except for that beautiful girl who took me there. God bless her!

As a guitar player that been following them since no life til leather, some of james riffs are just easier down picking,, and it sounds better and more clear. But he doesn't down pick everything, that would be impossible and would give him carpal tunnel.

After Metallica went to slower hard rock during the '90s ( Black album, Load, and Reload) , they have had recent albums with more thrash metal songs, closer to their '80s stuff and Garage Days (great thrash metal albums) St Anger (2003), Death Magnetic (2008), Hardwired (2016) are very good albums, check them out. Back to heavier sounds compared to their '90s albums.

This album came out 30 years after Master Of Puppets. Master Of Puppets came out in 1986 and Hardwired... To Self-Destruct came out in 2016.

Great song and album. You guys should react to this whole album. The songs Atlas Rise, and Spit Out The Bone especially. Brad this song and album came out in 2016. This is their latest album. Master Of Puppets came out in 1986. So, there is a 30 year gap. 40 years later and Metallica can still bring the heat and precision speed.

@@alfredo3639 So off base. Your standard is limited to "great" if it tops/matches the first few albums? Hard Wired is easily top 5/6 album by Metallica and is great. Certainly best since Justice or Black album depending on your preferences. Been listening since mid 80's and my first Metallica concert was in 89'. Even have a Metallica tat. So don't come at me with any "haven't listened to" crap. Let fans enjoy what they enjoy instead of judging them.

James Hetfield said he wrote 'Moth into flame' after watching a documentary on Amy Winehouse... her rise to fame, her addictions and her sad death. It was a cycle that Hetfield was only too familiar with... having struggled w/ fame and alcohol abuse. Hellyeah wrote the song 'Moth' before Metallica... also about addiction.

As far as Metallica being consistent, that isn't exactly true. They adventured into other forms of metal and rock, that wasn't considered their signature sound. And I love that. Too many bands stuck to that same 80's sound and ran out of steam. Metallica tried new things. And did it well.

I remember hearing this for the first time and being blown away. I’ve overplayed it too much now, but hearing it again right now reminded me of how badass this song is. Metallica knows how to write a badass song that doesn’t sound dated.

Metallica's 1st album Kill Em All came out in 1983. Their 1st video was for One from their 4th album And Justice For All in 1988. Metallica had a large following without video or radio airplay. There was no internet back then either.

So this song was, i think according to James himself, somewhat inspired by the documentary "Amy" about Amy Winhouse. So essentially about her. The song came out way later than Master of Puppets, its from the album "Hardwired...to self-distruct" which came out 2016. You still have a lot of songs to cover from that album, a lot of bangers :)

This is off of their latest album... But Metallica is metal. James wasn't supposed to sing, but they couldn't find a suitable singer, so he just ended up doing it and he is the quintessential metal band front man, leading this group of snot nosed kids on... Hid words, not mine.

I hate all these lyric videos man! They just f*ck the top end and all the cymbals become a huge mess. Listen on Spotify as it gives you the lyrics but the songs are still good quality.

James actually downpicks every note, which is incredible considering how fast they go. Just imagine moving your wrist up and down at that speed. That is guaranteed carpal tunnel for anybody else except James Hetfield.

Oh yes. I agree 100% with anyone who says you should react to this entire album. The whole thing is fire. Now That We're Dead is good. I also like the song Dream No More. And there's a tribute song for Lemmy from Motorhead.
