@@peanutgallery123 no, I'm French, and I've literally learn how to speak English by watching KZbin videos, this took me less than 2 years without any actual effort. I mea', I had school but I learnt nothing in it other than 'my name is' and 'where do you live' so heh. English have like 3 thing : past present future, when French have 17 if I remenber well, the grammar is super simple they are silent letter but not that much honestly and no annoying grammar rules. The vocabulary used by English people is super repetitive and small. Sorry but English is by far one of the most simple language.

Yes when I heard that I thought too like: "No it isn't" German and French is much harder. I think there is no other language that has just (as it seems) randomly decided which nouns are male, which female and which are diverse. I am German myself and still looking for somebody who can explain why buckets are male, bottles are female (in Singular) and beds are diverse. (I am referring to the 3 articles)

English's conjugation : I am You are He/she/it is We are You are They are And then you have french conjugation : Je suis Tu es Il/elle/on est Nous sommes Vous êtes Ils/elles sont I think you saw that we have "Ils/elles" that's like they for a boy and they for a woman English : Win/won/won See/saw/seen ... We have 3 groups because it's too complicated :( There's the 1st group that's for the verbs that have -er like "manger"(eat) or "danser"(dance) The second group is for verbs that don't have -ions for we or something like that... where you can find "lire"(read) or "écrire"(write) And the third group that's for trash verbs. Shity verbs that have they own conjuguation, you can find "descendre"(go down) or any other verbs like that... English hour : 1 am 2 am 3 am ... 1 pm 2 pm 3 pm ... French : 1 heure du matin 2 heures du matin 3 heures du matin ... 1 heure de l'après-midi/treize heures 2heures de l'après-midi/quatorze heures 3heures de l'après-midi/quinze heures .... Look, French is very difficult, English isn't at all. German is difficult too (I'm learning German so I know some words)....

I quit taking french classes after the recommended 4 years in a row. I liked french, and thought I was 'decent' at it, but over the course of a measly 2 month long summer, came back to another year, wanting to make french my first second language. I walked in the classroom, and after a few minutes, the teacher started writing about 50-odd words on the board. I knew about 5 of them, and she then goes. "Ok class, I know you guys probably didn't practice any work or anything over break, but you should at the very least know these 50" I quit. French, while 'fun', was not for me. Funny enough, I'm self-teaching Japanese and I've learned more in 3 months than the 4 years of school.

i think that self teaching a language can be a lot more fun and efficient than learning it in school. i learn 99% of my english on the internet. i’m still not fluent but my level is way better than it would be if i just learned the stuff from school :D also, congrats on learning japanese !! that’s so cool

@@chillmeii Learning a language at your own pace is a much better way to do it imo. Some languages like japanese require more time and resources like friends who speak the language, but it still feels alot better not having to answer a question out of a textbook every day just to go home and learn nothing. Your english is pretty good by the way, keep it up!

​@@dvrevival471 In short, if your self-teaching skills are trash, I'd either say don't bother with Japanese, try another language, or accept that they are trash and keep trying! As much as it pains me to say this, Japanese takes years on years to become proficient at all, look it up. Long: As of that post, I'd been using Obenkyo (app) and Alphabet Charts off of google to memorize all of the hiragana and katakana. I mean, how are you supposed to understand/read/write/speak a language when you don't know their alphabets? Now: I've completed that, and have since moved on to memorizing the 214 base kanji. Once I'm done with all of these, I'm going to go back to Duolingo, and see how far I can get. Duolingo does not teach pronounciation, stroke order, the flow of sentences, intonation, the multiple meaning of words, or sentences, to name a few. Future: I think the best thing to do after that is find a friend that is either from Japan, is 100% fluent in Japanese, or pay for an online or actual course. Intonations can't easily be learned, and almost every word/kanji/sentence has multiple meanings. Not even mentioning the polite and impolite versions of them or the different ways sentences mean to Japanese because of their culture.
