So much comedy is based in cynicism, sarcasm, and darkness. Which of course I love. But Lasso found laughs in goodness and kindness. That’s an achievement for a single show, but to sustain it like they have is mind-blowing. Love it! @@anass1905 SPOILER after the end of S2 I remember Ted saying that he wished his dad knew how great he was and if he knew perhaps he wouldn’t have killed himself. In the last episode of the season Ted talks in the press conference about mental health, after Nate admitting how he felt. Could Ted’s father passing and Nate’s passing of a “happy” character be a form of parallelism in which both characters failed to see how great they were and ultimately paid the consequences for it? It could be a stretch but it brings me goosebumps to think of just how great of writing that was from the writers.

Very surprised they didn’t go the route that they originally had for the original Ted Lasso sketches on NBC. But it’s funny because that was made ten years ago when mockumentary style comedy was peak. Had to get used to their style of cinematography and tone but I quickly fell in love with the good feel and deep topics about the human condition. And also Ted Lasso is one of the only shows where they show male characters having flaws such as mental health and insecurities and toxic masculinity while trying to figure it out.

@jacobmackenzie48362 жыл бұрын
@@VarunKumar-ro4ll Yeah I don't mind that as much, as the whole setting requires a suspension of disbelief, like any show really. Like in, say, Community, we know no real community college has that stuff going on, but it doesn't get in the way of the story. What does make me laugh is the football skills of some of the actors - at the end of the 1st season when they make that American Football play, the goalie taking the free kick is woeful haha - looks like it would have gone about 5 yards.
@tramlou1 Жыл бұрын
@@VarunKumar-ro4ll I really like TED LASSO but as a sports fan I know this notion is absurd. The show never convincingly addresses how a novice can organize practices while forming strategies AND get profession players to buy in and compete. Is coach Beard (also a novice) the brains of the organization? Nate the equipment manager? Do soccer teams not really need coaching and just run on autopilot? I think having Lasso as division 2 college SOCCER coach would've satisfied the fish-out-of-water requirement as well as made the players condescending of him but would've made the on-field results more believable.

When I first heard of Ted Lasso I made a snap judgement that a show with such a asinine premise would not be worth my time, I believe I was in good company. But towards the end of the first run, I stumbled upon more than a few intriguing reviews and decided to be curious. Well, I was reeled in, hook, line and sinker. From what I’ve read, mine is a rather common story. I’ve watched a fair share of TV drama and comedy over my 62 years and I’ve enjoyed most of it as well crafted entertainment but with an appropriate detachment, it’s just fiction after all. It’s a truly rare event when I have concerns about the fate of fictitious characters to the extent of feeling trepidation before each new installment. And that’s nothing compared to the elation I experience when good things happen to them and the sadness when they’re down. But I’m comforted in knowing I’m not alone in being sad. I’ve loved every episode and had my share of goose bumps, lump in the throat and many tears. A certain amount of suspension of disbelief was required but that’s ok. It is possible that the present circumstances have made me more receptive to such a show, I don’t know. Regardless, I’m grateful for it’s existence. Nonetheless, I can’t help but try to understand why Ted Lasso has had such a unusual impact on myself as well as on many others. My take is that, while Seinfeld was the show about nothing, Ted Lasso is the show about everything. More to the point, it’s about life. AFC Richmond, the stadiums, the games are just background, the canvas on which the lives of the characters unfold. There is no plot, the team wll be ok. It’s about the multiple stories that crisscross one another and that we observe and get captivated and enthralled by. Lives very much like ours. Of course most of us don’t have the material comfort of those individuals but, except for Rebecca, their position is precarious. So they, as we, must navigate life without a clear roadmap. In the last episode Ted said it so well, life is about making choices. We do our best, we try, we stumble, we make mistakes, we learn, we take the good, we accept the bad, we correct, we fix, we make amends, we keep going and, hopefully, we become the better versions of ourselves. Onward, Forward. This show is not plot driven but it is message driven. It seeks to show the way but is not about the destination it’s about the journey. Each generation as an impact on the next and it’s a responsability to be taken with earnestness. Dereliction of duty can have long lasting effect. But there’s, most of all, a message of hope. Wounds can be healed, what is stuck can be freed,the lost can find the right path with a little help from our friends. It’s about how loving, caring, trusting can clear the path forward. It’s about honesty with others but mostly with ourselves. It’s about the courage to show ourselves, warts and all, without a mask of fierceness, of meekness or of happyness. It’s about the value of friendship and the strenght of solidarity. This unrelenting optimism, at once Ted’s stenght and weekness, is the reason the show is comedy and not drama. Ultimately, everything is funny and for the same reason that there are few fates worst than being sad and alone the best laughs are the ones shared with the most. I look forward to the rest of the journey. To the creators of the show and to the extremely talented cast and crew I can only say, job well done and thank you. There’s this Doctor Who quote that I like a lot and that appropriately summarizes Ted Lasso. « Hate is always foolish and love is always wise. Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind. Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind » Believe!

I'd disagree with that. In Bojack the humour is balanced out not by the absurd mashing with more simple, grounding humour, but by the emotional intensity of Bojacks (and by extension the viewers) failings. Like when we go from the absurd TV sit-com set-up of Bojack bringing Penny to Prom and all that entailed; getting rejected by Charlotte and then getting caught by her with Penny. Even when similar emotional difficult moments like that happen in TL, e.g. Ted's panic attacks or therapy, they are much more about the characterisation of Ted, then they are about holding a mirror up to the viewer. That all being said, if we're to sum up Ted Lasso as 'Optimism' and Bojack as 'Pessimism' then I do start to see a little of what you mean.

What I like most about Ted lasso is that it destroys all expectations of a funny show with dramatic romantics; plots come and go and without all the dragging dialogue.
