I haven't found one talk yet that I can relate to fully regarding anxiety, and that told me something I could actually use to get over it. For example, my anxiety doesn't disappear at work because I'm confident there. Where there are people, I'm anxious about interacting with them, when I need to present it's even worse, when I'm alone at home I worry about future problems and things I didn't do properly, and I miss having intimate social connections that I know I can't have anyway because I'm not capable of conversations the same way other people are, and I just don't feel comfortable enough around people to make friends. So yeah, it's easy to say you need to break the loop, but how do you do that when you actually believe there's something wrong with you and others are aware of it? I can't seem to get my mind off of: this person probably thinks I behave strangely, this person probably thinks I'm weird, I'm probably saying something strange now, I will probably not know what to say, O dear I don't know what to say and now the situation get's really awkward. It really drives me insane. Sometimes I wish I could shut off my feelings so at least I wouldn't have to feel broken and lacking all the time. There you have it.

I think it is the lack or not being true to yourself mate..that is how I treat my angst. Use it as an indicator that you are not quite where you are. Also, tell at least one close friend you are suffering. Opening up works..like a catharsis.

If I were in her shoes and asked to do a Ted Talks lesson, I think my thought process would look more like: 1. Wow, this is amazing! 2. Are they sure they want me? Is this a joke? 3. I can't do this.. There must be someone better for this.. 4. I choke up in public speaking. I literally, physically can't do this.. 5. That's it. I'm cancelling .. cancelling this once in a lifetime opportunity that I *know* I'll regret but I can't get over my temporary fears for the lasting satisfaction of acting on this opportunity...

I watched this video on New Year's Eve when my anxiety had really got the best of me. I got my journalling book and started making notes. I really appreciate her honesty although I have to say I am shocked that she suffers with anxiety. She looks so bubbly and confident. Her ending statement, be a warrior not a worrier was so inspiring. I also agree with what she said about her husband being happy because he did so many things. I think its so important to pursue interests: go places, meet people, try new things, volunteer. It's only when we are uncomfortable that we can be truly be comfortable.

What a crock. If anxiety were as simple as fighting a fear, I wouldn't be laying in bed at 1.30am feeling like I'm in a damn horror film and having no idea why!! There isnt a direct fear to bloody fight. Sheesh

From studying the topic of fear and anxiety, she is absolutely correct to all you nay sayers. You have to tackle you fears, in whatever category they are in, to be at peace and to be happier. How you overcome your fears when you tackle them, is something that you will figure out if you put in a serious effort. This isn't a math equation people. If your looking for some kind of voodoo trick to overcoming anxiety and fear, your not going to find it.

anxiety is caused by fear - mainly irrational based on some traumatic experience from years past - which is being repeated by an amygdala that is firing - as it has 'paired and conditioned' with trigger settings. Much as this women is good looking, and is probably annoying with the Life I Want stories, facing fear is the way to reduce anxiety. Its graduated exposure - will re-set the mechanism: the amygdala.

I don't agree. I have swallow anxiety for a few months now and face the fear at least 3 times a day. This on itself does not create progression, it's more in the approach rather than 'just doing' is my experience even though I am far from 'anxiety-free'.
@gingerindian1141
@gingerindian1141 6 жыл бұрын
Anxiety is a fear response of the amygdala. The only way to change it is my confronting the fear in a graded way, and then - over time, the neurons that originally fired stop, and the new ones do fire without causing amygdala response. You can read the current research on neuro-plasticity and amygdala responses. Cognition, and new behaviour is the solution.

This is one of my favorite talks! She said something that really stuck with me “have I been fighting my fears in life or just fighting no”.....I’ve fought many of my”no’s” that I’ve mistaken for fear only to still be anxious once I got them. Great way to look at our fears. Thank you @angelaceberano !

This is actually very helpful, I used to have very bad anxiety, now it is getting better. I still have anxiety presenting in front of people and I have deep fear answering calls on the phone. Lately I was suggested by someone to call a bunch of random company like phone company and ask questions. You can say this is my fear project. Even commenting on youtube videos is part of the fear project for me. Fear will always be there unless you do something about it. The more you face it, the less fear you will have. Sitting there feeling sorry for yourself or replaying the fear in your mind wont help at all! you must face your fear, and you must create fear projects and eventually the more you do it, the more numbers you call, your fear will be gone.

Thank you for sharing. This video was great! Starting my business at 28 and had my first panic attack recently. Choosing to have a warrior mindset is truly good advice, because if you feel like a victim of your anxiety, you will truly just worry more which leads to more anxiety and panic. Her point is to do things that give you a sense of strength and empowerment.

She is right in saying that everyone should be a warrior, fighting their own fears. Anxiety is a feeling that few can get rid of because it's quite impossible to have control of your thoughts, negative thoughts. She is giving some advice because she overcame it. I don't see arrogance or self confidence, it is just an attempt to help others.

I always tell people who ask that I was born stressed and worried. This video has helped me incredibly. I completely relate to the excitement, to the self-doubt, than back to the excitement of overcoming my anxiety and fear. Except, this happens usually when its too late and my opportunity has passed. This is definitely a video that must be rewatched and listened to it over and over again.

I love the way she talks. It is gentle and kind of like a tinkling in ears. I see people have commented that the anxiety she addresses is not the clinical, horrible leveled one that some people experience, but if you look at the other talks, they too offer the same remedy. Go for it and tackle the fear. I liked the talk. Refreshing and light.

As helpful as this video was, I just don't feel it's explaining "Anxiety", every day problems yes, but not going through what people really go through. The thing is, a person with anxiety can be very different to another person who also suffers anxiety. You are who you are based entirely on what you experience in life, every single second of every single day, you are always changing very gradually as a result. That’s why no two people are the exact same. Then there are all of the many, many other things that go on in your brain that create what you are. You can listen to others but ultimately you know yourself better than anyone and you will do whatever you think is best for you even if it isn’t, unbeknownst to you, the best thing to do.

Ride the wave as I like to say. It wasn't until I stopped running from or looking for reasons not to confront my subconscious beliefs that recovery happened. Riding the wave means accepting who you are in that moment, therefore loving who you are, and seperating what you're currently doing (behavior) from what your true identity is (warrior).
