I think the people who keep saying “she CHOSE it” are completely disregarding the fact that not only was she COERCED into “choosing” it, but the timing. They wait 7 days from the incident they claim warranted the abuse. & in that 7 days, they didn’t contact mom to discuss her behavior. They didn’t give Brooklynn the difficult ultimatum on any other day, but a day in which they KNEW she had other obligations. On top of that they didn’t check their own records to verify that, regardless of her age, her mother did not agree to the option. & the school has a duty to notify as those documents are a contract between the school & the parent who is entrusting them with their child. If they are trying to argue that she is an adult & therefore, all they needed was her agreement, then as soon as she turned 18, SHE should’ve been the one to fill out the corporal punishment paperwork showing that she agreed to it WITHOUT being under duress.

There is another news coverage about this in which she describes it as feeling like sexual assault. Even in THIS coverage we have seen she says she felt her principal "got off on it" which certainly makes it sound like sexual assault. In the other coverage of this event, the mother even shows her consent form to the school in which she had checked marked the box that it was NOT ok to give her daughter corporal punishment, and they did anyway. Even if this isn't defined as sexual assault(which I agree it SHOULD be), the fact that they did this action despite having in writing that they were not to do it, at the VERY LEAST makes this "assault" or some kind of misconduct.

When there is intentional and deliberate violence involved the perpetrator/s are always to blame,; NEVER the victim. These aged adult principals have been threatening and committing battery upon the bodies of males and females for a long period of time without any repercussions, and they know exactly how to get the results they want to achieve. It might do well for people to educate themselves on the issue of public-school corporal punishment in its entirety. These schools and school districts that use this abuse compete quarterly and annually within the district, AND other schools within the state, for lower suspension and detention and expulsion rates. And guess what--the violence of beating people helps achieve their goals to do just that. No schools ever compete with each other regarding corporal punishment instances, and it is only through public records that reveals how these abusers are achieving their goals; through violence. These school employees are quite experienced and aware of just how to intimidate, coerce and pressure students (especially unsuspecting naive "first time" students who may rarely even know the meaning of corporal punishment or what the violence actually entails) The administrators are quite aware of how strong peer pressure is among high school students themselves, particularly in the case with males, into agreeing to "suck it up or man up" and accept the abuse. The two male Principals offered this female honors student no other options except the two. They knew the nonviolent option would be unacceptable to her because it would interfere with her studies and her job, and thus cleverly making CP attractive so that would be the only other alternative that she could accept. By doing this they try, but failed, to take the blame off of themselves. It is the two school employees who do the bidding of the school board that are GUILTY of this violence. Walking away may indeed be" ego driven" which matters not, because it is still a COWARDLY act. Thank God for victims of violence like this young woman who will fight their perpetrators to try to end this cruelty in our public schools.

Yeah but the crime didn't fit the punishment. A student should never be laughed at when being disciplined. Discipline shouldn't be about humiliation even though that is a part of it it should be about correcting a behavior. That’s like saying something isn’t rape because someone was given the choice to either lose their job or have sex with the boss, and they “chose” to have sex with the boss. This girl was desperate and didn’t have any viable options. She might lose her job and fail her college classes if she stayed for in school suspension. When you make a choice out of coercion, it’s not consent. She also didn’t foresee the crude, sexualized manner with which the principal would execute the paddling. She wasn’t told that part of the punishment entailed being locked in a small room with only two grown men who would smirk and take enjoyment in paddling her after ordering her to bend forward.

I know that if they had meetings or were out, and she only was in school for partial days, that isn't uncommon to delay it. If there are cameras I'm pretty sure it's policy not hidden. She also said they were constantly out to get her in trouble, while also saying they barely had interaction, and felt victimized when she had to change clothes to be appropriate, but that wasn't fair because she just had curves. Which is also strange since you say they are fantasizing about her. I wouldn't be surprised if she uses that often when she's mad, and if it's a female it's because they're jealous.

Oh come on. It's Christmastime for Pete's sake. The only people on earth we're allow to beat at all anymore are kids. And you want to take that away from us? You can't even do it to animals now. And not wives or employees or sailors or criminals or criminal 'suspects' resisting arrest, even. Though I did see a body cam video where a cop made a point of reminding a mom that beating teenagers is perfectly legal in Florida. But even then he wasn't about to try it himself. Actually I'm pretty sure you can legally beat your own kid no matter what state you're in, maybe handy to remember when on cross-country trips with the family. There are Walmarts and places like that pretty much along every major highway. But last I checked, the only state where a majority of parents thought it was okay for schools to paddle kids was Arkansas. Even there it was by only by a slim majority, 51% in favor. Everywhere else including Florida it was a landslide the other way. But still, the bottom line is that us adults got it a LOT when we were kids. And a lot of us got a lot of it in school, too. And now it's *our* turn, is the thing. We're proud of our cultural heritage. Anyhow, it wouldn't be fair for the buck to stop with us. We came out perfectly fine, obviously, and not just our own children but our friends' and neighbors' kids, plus everybody else's kids too, also deserve to end up coming out just as fine as us.

The only people on earth you are allowed to mutilate the bodies of at all anymore are kids, the only people on earth you're allowed to steal their property anymore are kids, the only people who's income you're allowed to take at all anymore, if they work a job are kids, only people you're allowed to force into dehumanising institutions where they'll work without pay in conditions no adult workplace would tolerate, are kids, with a higher level of self control demanded of them than adults are capable of, only group you can step in and deny getting life saving operations if it's against your wishes they be saved, only group who aren't due any compensation if punished unfairly, only group don't need due process before being punished (or any process, could even legally hurt them for fun and admit that's why you are doing it), only group which don't have a right to remain silent, only group which don't have a right to speak to defend themselves either (e.g. talking back) only social group you can openly admit to hating without being called a bigot and roasted/cancelled for it, children have been arrested and put into adult prisons without any trail or even any charge brought against them, this has happened numerous times when both their parent's die and therefore they become the property of the state (sadly, that's what they are seen as in reality, actions speak lounder than words) the state can imprison kids in prison legally if they lose both their folks, no trail required to prove anything, false confinement, isolation and various other punishments like public humiliations are all exclusively practised on that social group too. I wish this was a complete list but it's not.

@@debchancy2066 I work with vulnerable adults. Currently I work in recovery, but prior to this I spent 14 years in adult disability services. Even though she is an adult, she is in a school setting, and as such the power dynamic between a Principal and a Student changes a lot of things. Laws vary from state to state, but I have to believe that in Florida despite her being legally an adult, it is VERY likely illegal for her to engage in sex with them. You yourself stated "of course they got off on it", which is a choice of words that implies sexual gratification. In my field, and my previous field, it is illegal to have any kind of implied sexual conduct with a patient. If it is implied that an action was taken for either self gratification or the gratification of the other party, it is considered sexual assault. In my own state, it these laws also protect FORMER patients that were in my care. You yourself stated in your first comment that this was like teaching the students S&M. You also use the words "took advantage" once again, a choice of words that might be used to describe a sexual assault case.

Teachers are leaving because parents don't want their children to deal with the consequences. I also approve having cameras in the classroom because staff and students lie all the time.
