Had 2 root canals done a couple days ago. Anesthesia made the procedure very easy. About an hour after leaving, I started having pretty bad pain likely due to gum inflammation. Used Ibuprofen which took some pain away, but it still hurt pretty bad. After a nights sleep, majority of pain was gone and I feel a lot better. 100% get your root canals if they’re recommended and definitely be sure to keep some ibuprofen very handy just in case you start having pain.

I got my first ever root canal today. You are perfectly 100% correct. This is an accurate truthful video. Thank you. I should have watched the BEFORE my procedure but I was scared to death of the unknown. My mistake. My root canal was a walk in the park. 35 minutes. NO pain. If I ever need one again I will NOT worry like I did with this first one. Actually I was so fearful I rescheduled it three times putting it off to a later date. Oh well. This video is great and fact and truthful.

I had an abscess on my right tooth at 1:00 in the morning and the whole right side of my face was swollen. I called my dentist at 1:30 in the morning and there was nothing he could do for me until later that morning. I met him at his office on a Saturday at 7 AM and he started my root canal procedure. I didn’t feel any pain at all. I gave him a hug after because I wouldn’t want to wish that pain on anyone.

May 8th, 2024. This is the exact same thing that happened to me: 3 am woke up, couldn't eat or sleep, had to deal with it for a whole other day, got like 20 minutes of sleep and starved 😢. May 9th, next day they sent me to another clinic to get 3D xrays, and didn't tell me that I was gunna need a root canal and they told the other clinic, I felt blind sided until I found out they were understaffed. I'm so grateful that they actually took care of me since I cried myself to sleep the previous night with all the pain. The whole root canal took approximately 2 hours, and I didn't feel a thing, until close to the end of them filling it up, but even then they asked if I needed to be numbed up again and they did exactly that. Now I'm just waiting for the swelling and mild pain to go away with time, anti-inflammatory meds (ibuprofen), and ice bags. I still gotta go back for the crown at a later date, but wish me luck 😅 I think the reason Root Canals get a bad rep is because of how some movies portray the characters jerking and kicking from the pain.

It's always best to avoid extractions. I've had many root canals & retreats in my lifetime. My dentist told me that a typical root canal procedure is good for 5 years. My current retreat was after 10 years. I'm in my 70's & still have my natural teeth (Wisdom teeth which were impacted were extracted in my 30's). It's a good practice to be proactive with dental health & regular visits to avoid long & expensive shopping lists of procedures.

As someone with (holy moly bad bad depression teeth) I've had two root canals. One done years ago and one done almost a week ago now. The most important part when debating when/how quickly if you have some time is GET A GOOD TRUSTED DENTIST. The dentist I saw and his office was patient with my severe dental anxiety, answered my questions, and made sure that I was as comfortable as possible. This made my first step before my permanent crown in so so much better. It was a molar so it did take almost two and a half hours and he was willing to do as much as possible so we could get all the hard parts done and I could go back for the last bit. He's now my more regular dentist and along with a great office (and these videos!!) i am more excited to start working on my dental health and trying to get to a point where I'm happy with my mouth.

This is kind of the place I'm at right now. The first dentist I wentbto just did a filling a 6months later I'm in pain so a different dentist told me I could either have it pulled, or root canal. Did you find like a toothpaste or type of brush that helped?

@@StormyLynn724 Stormy, I avoided dentists entirely for thirty-plus years. Being self-employed and uninsured, I told myself I couldn't afford it. So by the time I turned 65, I needed a fair amount of remedial work done! I found a great care team and we got the ball rolling. The first procedure was a root canal on a back molar, and then a crown installed on the tooth. I was referred to an excellent endodontist, who became a good friend. He did a fantastic job, and I felt completely comfortable while he was working on that tooth. I'm not kidding when I say it was a pleasant afternoon. Modern dentistry is amazingly advanced. The tech they use is astounding. The pain management is excellent. There's no reason you should feel any pain at all during a root canal. And when you're done, I promise you, you will wonder what all the fuss was about, and marvel at how easy it was. And, if you've been suffering with a chronic toothache, IT IWILL BE GONE PERMANENTLY, and you'll wonder why you waited so long. Again, attitude is everything. Our wonderful ToothTalkGirl, isn't she a gem? You found the right channel with her to educate you and quiet all your anxiety.

I drove home after (30min) and started feeling faint off n on after arriving home. I had a slight taste of blood because I only had water to drink - I'd recommend something that'll disguise that. Also, I recommend belly breathing during the procedure as a way to help anxiety. It helped me stay still.

I'm amazed how expensive dental work is in the US. Such a rip-off. In my country (Croatia), besides the fact that everything is covered by insurance, even if you see a private dentist on your own cost, a root canal for a back tooth is not more than 80$. Composite fillings are about the same price or less.

Well yes it's more expensive here and yes the healthcare system isn't designed for poorer people like myself. However the dollar value u in America compared to Croatia is immensely different. Something like 20 bucks here is wat 2000 there or something? So by that math and 80$ Croatian procedure is comparable to wat like 8000$ US dollars?!?!??? A root canal in the state of Tennessee in the north east region of the state cost my wife 1000$. At least that's the quote as of 10/18/22. So if I pay a grand in us dollars that equivalent to 10,000 Croatian dollars ... On average your Joe blow Croatian feller makes wat a year... It's more expensive there bro for sure. Wish I saw your vid before the procedure, I would've been more at ease about it going in but I'm glad it's nearly over. I just wish I had listened to my body/teeth when the pain first started months ago...then I bet it would've been less painful, less invasive. I will never ignore any pain again, esp. in my teeth. Great video -- very accurate and relevant! I'd never seen the blogs you referenced, but I did see the Netflix "documentary" Root Cause which ended up being extracted (no pun intended) after 29 days of being online; it did negatively skew my perspective at first, but then I had the sense to evaluate what I know/understand, and saw how they were very one-sided, lacked fact-checking. In fact I just got another RCT yesterday, and the procedure was definitely boring, and 3 hours long (not the norm). It was extra challenging because of my gnarly long roots and multiple canals, in the molars. I also now warn the dentist because I've had some not-so-boring RCTs, which required a referral to an endodontist, but apparently I'm more difficult than average... funny how I get that a lot.

I had two root canals today. I'm just now getting to the point where the numbing has wore off. The actual root canal does not hurt at all. The injections hurt worse honestly. You might have some soreness after however you'll be grateful that the tooth pain is gone.

I just had it done to a molar today in Brazil, here the X-rays, cleaning, root canal, partial crown, and antibiotic was a little over $300usd (like +/- R$1,600). My dentist is every bit as knowledgeable and professional as any dentist I've had in the US and fortunately speaks fluent English which is lucky for me since my Portuguese is terrible. No pain but oddly enough I could feel each root being stripped out and packed, but as I said, it was painless, just a pressure differential that was relieving if anything. I'll go back next week for them to finish, meanwhile I expect my antibiotic cycle to wipe out any remaining infection..

Brazil is a fantastic place to get dental work done. Never would have guessed I'd move to Brazil for something else, then end up getting braces and finally crowns to cover the teeth that were always too small. Broke a front tooth when i was a kid and the dentist here said the crown was horrible and was horrified that they hadnt given me a root canal before. I agree that the crown i got in the US wasnt great, but ive never had pain with this tooth and could feel things like normal. But before giving me my permanent crowns and finishing treatment, he wants to do a rootcanal on this tooth. I will listen to him. Hes a good friend and is doing this for me basically at cost of materials, so by recommending treatments, he has no financial gain and even has done some work for free or in exchange for esl lessons. Ill miss him when i go back to the US in a couple months. But for sure ill be back to visit my friends here.

Tried root canal procedure twice with no luck. My CBCT scan showed no fracture in tooth but my pain is not going away. I spent a lot of money and suffered lot of pain. Finally going for an extraction tomorrow.

Just had my 3rd root canal about 2 hours ago and it was mostly painless. The worst part is the numbing injections which sting/burn a bit but it goes away rather quickly. The next worst part was the cost, haha! I had tooth #13 done and having disomfort on my bottom jaw now. Not sure if thats normal? But, if you are like me and had super super high anxiety before my first root canal, please hear me when I say, its a lot easier than you think.

May 8th, 2024. 3 am. woke up, couldn't eat or sleep, had to deal with it for a whole other day, got like 20 minutes of sleep, and starved 😢.

“Shoot great that’s me my tooth hurts and I’m getting a root canal tomorrow” is exactly why I’m watching this video at 1am 8 hours from the root canal. So that being said, im in love. This woman just put me at ease more than the dentist or numbness will tomorrow. ❤

I didn't watch these root canal videos due to anxiety about being in the dentist chair. Doc got me some anti-anxiety meds to help. After the meds, it was no problem. But I am still hurting from the costs!

I had to have a root canal on a molar which had previously had a filling. The filling was when I was maybe 15 and I was about 24 when the tooth suddenly became excruciatingly painful. I had also moved from the US to the UK, so bad to find a dentist here. Anyways, long story short, my root was never fully removed because it apparently extended right up into my sinus cavity. How common is that? The dentist also commented that it was the worst root he had encountered and didn't understand how I hadn't been in pain for years, which I definitely had not been. I was certainly in a lot of pain for a couple days afterwards, but not much worse than I had been prior to my appointment, really. This was around 15 years ago now and it cost a mere £120. Yes, that's 3 digits. No, it wasn't partially covered by insurance of any kind.

I have mine coming up tomorrow morning. The dentist said it will be 90s minutes in the chair, and I was worried it was going to be painful as they kill the nerve, or very painful after at the termination point. Glad to hear I'm worried about nothing.

Just had a route canal done the other day and it’s not bad at all! Just get it done and stop waiting! Just do it and take care of yourself instead of having the infection grow until it’s a worse procedure to us who don’t like going to the dentist or always put things off. So what I had done was topical numbing then needle injection (just accept it) then then they start doing work like a filling but with an addicting drill and more lengthly so ot does get boring or you’re sitting like is it done? Lol anyways get it done and don’t put it off! You’ll be more than fine!

I had that laughing gas before And it's just what it is!! The nurses was talking about clipboards and I was in tears laughing like crazy. One tip with laughing gas, breathe through ya nose. My mouth was prop open so I was breathing thru my mouth and let just say it felt like torture. I was hollering like hell and loud AF. They keep saying breathe thru ya nose. I have a root canal on Tuesday out of pocket is $1393 I'll also need a crown $1856=$3249. I got a discount with a in house dental membership of $838 so I'm on the hook for $2411

You did not mention the need for a crown to protect the now weakened tooth after the root canal. That crown will add to the total cost.

Had a root canal done and it fell off after 3 months. I was told to not eat hard or sticky foods as it could disrupt the tooth and it could break or fallout! I took care of it and did what i was suppose too as it was expensive to get done but i think it wasnt done properly. I was also told the tooth is dead and or is dying so the tooth is no longer what it used to be. I avoided that area when chewing these foods. I now have an infection and left with a gap. Im planning on getting an implant ,very costly but worth it. If you dont know what an implant is look it up, save up for it and avoid the root canal treatment altogether, was a waste of money ,time and the tooth never felt right.
