I just bought a Hitbox to play Tekken on, and I just want to say this video series has been helping me immensely. Especially since this is my first "arcade stick" and I'm trying to jump right into playing Devil Jin. Those things on top of each other really make it feel like learning an instrument, ngl.

Salut !

Very good video! I have done both the dirty backdash and the SOCD version but both versions of them gets me clipped a lot of the time when I am just trying to backdash to keep myself safe. Is this due to poor cancelling or just a general weakness of backdashing or specific to hitbox?
@Sicknificant1
@Sicknificant1 2 жыл бұрын
My reasoning may not be your answer but I know that some moves on tekken cannot be blocked while in neutral meaning you HAVE to have a back input being recognized by the game for the block to work. Maybe there is a chance you are being clipped by particular moves during neutral frames? If this is the case then yes it is more a problem related to hitbox/mixbox type controllers and methods because a "true" backdash/Korean backdash will have 100% uptime for frames while inputting back. The "shortcuts" usable on mixbox/hitbox type controllers should be able to deal with 95% of the moves on the game but there are some moves that bypass neutral blocks, hitting anyways.

Hey Akouma ! I’m new to Tekken, playing on KBM but modeling after a hit box so I can eventually move to one. I was sort of confused by the dirty back dash. In this video you say to do : back, quarter circle forward, back. I don’t see you pressing forward at all. Do you mean quarter circle back? Roughly 3:45 in the video. Should I learn all the KBD? Or focus on the “optimal” one?
@SuperAkouma
@SuperAkouma Жыл бұрын
Yeah I just meant quarter circle back, sorry 😅 I suggest learning all methods but focusing on the optimal one. The "dirty" one I feel gives you more control over fuzzy guards but it's not optimal

Actually serious question. I noticed in this video, you are using your ring finger for button presses and movements (such as for wavedash and 2p backdash). When I try using my ring finger, it is very uncomfortable. is this something that comes with practise? or do you do any stretches or exercises to get the mobility in that ring finger?
@SuperAkouma

Practice will get you there but at the beginning stretching can help you last longer and relieve discomfort. It shouldn't take more than a month or two to get used to tho

@ tekken players .. should you start a KBD with a normal backdash and then go into the KBD? Also is it worth doing the KBD if you're side stepping or should you just do normal backdashes on sidesteps since its already canceling? Thanks.
@SuperAkouma
@SuperAkouma Жыл бұрын
A single backdash can be very effective, it can be used to create a whiff and punish. KBD is more of a way of controling space on the screen, to not let you opponent oppress you. You shouldn't blindly KBD always look at the game state and try to control the pace of the game through movement and pokes

Okay so i wondering if I have bad habits. In the video when you do kbd, it looks like you have you pinky and thumb on the left hand resting on the hitbox. This whole time I have had my pinky and thumb raised in a straight position only when i kbd, then once i start comboing my pink and thumb go back down. Does it really matter? I trying to keep my pinky and thumb more planted but I feel kinda chained down now when doing kbd and it is kinda causing me more fatigue in my left hand, but that might be cause im not used to it.
@SuperAkouma

I think having my fingers resting on the hitbox is just because showing the input and playaing aren't quite the same. I think I have my pinky raised a little too
@theelusivememe1772

Okay cool thx for the input. Starting last night I started lowering my thumb which kinda made my kbd more consistent I think. But my pinky just raises naturally by itself when doing kbd. Its wierd that it does this only when i do kbd but I guess its watever as long as it is comfortable.

@neonknight5857
@neonknight5857 3 жыл бұрын
It's not even close to cheating. It's not even really an upgrade. It's a sidegrade. I play on mixbox and main heihachi, I don't think my wavedash will ever be as fast as a stick player's. Learning execution on both sides is an extreme chore, even though the buttons are technically fast. SOCD backdash sucks by the way. It's really slow and impractical compare to the normal version. It's very worth learning to do it the normal way on mixbox and hitbox. tl:dr don't listen to dipshits infected with boomerthink
