11:30 To get to sound playback options w/o EarTrumpet requires three clicks: Right click speaker in tray -> click 'sounds' -> select correct tab :)
@Neumah3 жыл бұрын
Huh, would you look at that. I'll never be able to remember that though, when I'm looking for interface stuff "sounds" is not on my radar at all.
@joe_ferreira3 жыл бұрын
EarTrumpt does much more than sound playback options. It can assign applications to specific sound devices.
@WolvenSpectre3 жыл бұрын
That is a recent change because apps like Ear Trumpet and ALTVOL (depricated now) added short ways to get to "Sounds" to get to the control panel. You used to have to go into Sound Settings, then click on a link to get into the System Sounds Control panel and then use the tabs for Recording and Playback to change those settings. Add to that they moved that link in Sound Settings 3 times IIRC.

just wanted to drop by and say thank you for the discount... mother in law had playback issues on her chromebox. She now has a legit win10 on her 16gb ddr3, 128gb ssd chromebox... and everything runs fine. Funnyfact, I remembered this video and input ts25 as a code instead of ts30. He activated windows more for the theme settings and the feature updates, the "security" part was just a way for him to somewhat justify his $15 spending. I missed the fancy decent gui tools for the graphics card, native support for foobar, and using exe files😂 Gui tools work way better on windows over linux, I am guessing it's an xorg thing though.

When using FancyZones you don't need to have 2x split zones AND 1x full zone that covers the same area. FancyZones lets you hover on the divider between 2 zones, and it will fill BOTH. This also works between 4x zones that share an outer border.

That is a recent change. You used to have to Right Click on volume, go to Sound Settings Panel, and in the Settings there was a link to adjusting sounds, but they would keep moving it, and that would open the Sounds Control Panel. What do you think of Chocolatey, compared to Ninite you've shown?
@WolvenSpectre3 жыл бұрын
Ninite only installs chosen programs in their default places all at once. The free version of Chocolatey does that, but if you pay you can install in other locations, you type in a single command and it updates everything, it also has a GUI that can simplify using it, and it can take over management of already installed programs if it has the program in its repository. It can also reinstall misbehaving programs and can create a backup markup of your current installs and their versions to be used as the installer next build, and that markup is human readable and editable. Not quite as good as a Linux Package Manager but as close as you will get now that Microsoft cloned AppGet.
@learningbird99403 жыл бұрын
@@WolvenSpectre What worries me most in Chocolatey is that most packages are uploaded by the community, and not members of Chocolatey or members vetted by Chocolatey, opening the door for malware inside the packages. Am I being paranoid?
@WolvenSpectre3 жыл бұрын
@@learningbird9940 A bit. While not as robust as major Linux package managers, they do offer enterprise services so packages published on Chocolatey are virus/malware scanned before made public. Also with the many IT and enterprise users it is hard for all those enterprise security solutions not to catch any monkey business and report it to Chocolatey, which then can roll the install back. In short it is as safe as downloading it from a major file hoster. I have used it for years now and haven't had any problems.
@learningbird99403 жыл бұрын
@@WolvenSpectre What a relief to know everything has gone well with you all these years. BTW, I imagine you create several scripts to facilitate reinstalls and configurations, am I right? Thanks, WolvenSpectre.
@WolvenSpectre3 жыл бұрын
@@learningbird9940 I haven't spent much time doing that but with the strong command line features I assume so. For me I just use the GUI to create a file based on the current install and edit the file as needed, then restore it to the new PC.

Windows OEM keys are always a little bit of a gamble if not bought by legit means, many get by without any issues but on some ocassions Microsoft have been known to invalidate them and deactivate your OS. I have been sold keys in the past that seemed to work fine for a bit and then stop working later down the line. It's a pain in the ass due to how expensive Windows is to buy legit as a general consumer and don't get me wrong, I'm not going to tell you to not buy these keys, it's just better to go in knowing the risks in doing so. It's not illegal to buy them but their resale is against the terms of service so Microsoft can legally invalidate them if they find out.
