Honestly, the better one is Teletubbies by a long shot! I said this before, but it legit feels like it's a bit of a representation of a caregiver or multiple caregivers taking care of a bunch of toddlers. The teletubbies themselves already have the curiosity, mischievousness, and overall behavior of toddlers, but I especially see that whenever the narrator talks, since the teletubbies are aware of his presence. He says the whole thing like it's a story in order to help guide the teletubbies to do something, which honestly sounds like an interesting way someone could help guide a toddler to do something correctly by themselves, since they're learning to be a bit more independent! And then some if not most of the antics that happen in it are because the teletubbies make a mistake on what they're trying to do or if they don't listen. And the antics can tend to get sillier if they do so PURPOSELY because it makes them giggle! (Specific example being the segment in "Pink") And many tend to say the trippiest parts have to do with the windmill, but I honestly see it more as if a caregiver were to say "Hey, kids! It's storytime!" And they all come rushing over to hear the story! Same could be said for a lot of the other windmill events!

Children's media is such an undervalued art - that perfect balance between age appropriate understanding, but not talking down to them, and then making it all entertaining. The world definitely needs more kids media that gives them something meaningful to think about, and takes its time, rather than just bombarding them with nonstop movement, color, and noise.

Yep. Teletubbies outcalsss Boohbah in almost every way possible. Every point you made was right on the money. The Teletubbies are way more distinct, memorable, and fun to watch, and their world is so intricate and immersive. But one thing I don't think anyone's mentioned is how much the music slaps. The soundtrack, mainly the songs that play during the scenes of the Teletubbies dancing go SO hard. They go so hard that a KZbinr named Furkan Kılıç took it upon himself to make covers of them. You should definitely give them a listen.

My take is that the viewer is represented by the baby sun. Which as you mentioned feels like it makes the baby (the viewer) the center of their world. Also why there are so many different babies in the remakes, so the viewers get a chance to see themselves as the center of the Teletubbies existence! Now my hairbrained theory revolving around this is that means that baby sun (viewer) and human children in general are like the Tubbies gods, given sun iconography is very god related. The teletubbies are in a veritable garden of eden, and are explorers of this new world (astronaut symbology) that need to learn all about it. It gives the viewer someone to relate to, and autonomy. After all, when they're born, babies probably feel like the center of their own world, but also very lonely little astronauts. Scientists sent to a new world they have to figure out the rules of.

And Tumblr never EVER let it go, LMAO. And finding out that Boobah came from the same Creator was shocking but the explanation of Boobah being geared towards babies makes things make 1000x more sense because Boobah used to terrify me.

It does make sense for Po to be a girl, since two of the four characters are boys. It evens out.

Athena if you ever did a video on Masha and The Bear I would legitimately lose the plot. That is simultaneously one of the blurriest memories I have and and one of the ones I have never been able to forget. That pink porridge looked so fucking good omg.

Tbh ALL of the Teletubbies 7 Magic Events were creepy. I remember being scared while watching the Magic House. Just all the creepy build-up until there’s a weird Scottish puppet singing at you.

fun face about the Teletubbies rabbits, not only were they massive so to not look tiny compared to the Teletubbies themselves, but they also did what rabbits do actively on set! Edit: at the time of making this comment i didn't see Athena get into the rabbits and about both of these fun facts i gave! lmao

I agree, it’s so cute. I remember Teletubbies as one of those shows that I stayed watching longer when I was a kid, I think to like 6. This is one of those weird PBS kids shows that don’t make sense for it to stick so long though… Unlike Dragon-tales, Clifford, or Reading with Lions or ciberchase which make sense for a kid to want more of, and were my favorites, I loved so much and continued watching much longer.

I have forgotten so much of Teletubbies. But every time i hear the narrator i am taken back to my grandparents living room sitting in front of the tv, the room still smelling of the soap my grandpa used to clean the house every morning, my grandma coming back from her morning walk, my parents getting read to leave for work. I loved this video.

I am here to BEG you to make a video about Dragon Tales. I know it's a little earlier than the shows you usually cover but I'm 19 and it was one of the most formative shows of my childhood. One time I put my mirror face down on the floor and jumped on it, having been inspired by that show. Anyways have a good day.

"I didn't watch much of the Teletubbies when I was younger. However, my best friend in elementary school used to joke about how different Poe's name was compared to the rest of the cast. We would end up singing the names of the other characters, "Tinkywinky, Dipsy, Laalaa", and then in the deepest voice we could muster, we would scream "POE!!!"

So from what I can tell, the 2022 release was actually the 2015 reboot but they replaced the narrator with Titus Burges and then chose to have multiple kids as the sun baby. They actually had their own kid that glowed in the actual reboot that the original Sun Baby, Jess Smith, took a photo with. Also I’m pretty sure the 2015 reboot also featured kids doing random stuff so those songs were probably added by Netflix for all we know. I’m basically outing myself with how much I know about this show but it’s whatever lol.

Realistically, teletubbies is just alien children learning about our world one piece at a time. We sort of do the same with their world through things like nunu, the teletubby diet, the pinwheel, and the sentient sun. I assume boobah is sensory purgatory for the poorsouls of storyland. Who give gifts in an attempt to be spared/forgiven and get to heaven or return to earth. Hence why it's a new person everytime?
