I've found your videos really helpful and I source of hope for our adoption journey. Last week our social worker said she saw no reason for us not to get through panel. We only have a few more meetings and then we have a bit of a wait till panel. The only thing which could stop the process is my job situation at JLR.

R1doorbar thanks so much for the lovely comment! She wouldn’t say that to you unless she was confident, so I’m sure you will smash it and be on the road to expanding your family in no time! I look forward to hearing more as your journey continues! Any questions or video suggestions please let me know 😊

Great video! I am considering adoption and was wondering what happens with their names? did you change his first name from his birth name? Is that something thats common or is it more frowned upon/ does it depend on the child's age? x

Emily B thank you! It is encouraged that first names are not changed in order to keep as much identity for that child as possible, rather then seeing their life as a new one following adoption. However, when making the adoption application; this is entirely up to the adopters to decide (unless told otherwise) hope that helps. Good luck on your journey 😊

Really informative video, I was wondering how you told your work? and at what stage of the adoption did you let them know?

Sophie Stanley my work are incredibly supportive and knew from just after our initial visit...when I knew more about rough timescales and that this was 100% happening. I said, I’m starting a family just not in the traditional way 😂 sooner the better as they may never have supported through an adoption before. They will need time to discuss with their accountant and to research any info needed.

Why do you think that somebody asking you why you want to adopt is negative? I'm sure your adoption agency would ask you that.
@Aimeevlog
@Aimeevlog Жыл бұрын
It was much more in the vein that it was asked, as in "why would somebody want to do that?"

@@Aimeevlog I hope you gave them a glib answer. I got the same when I joined the army, they were questioning my sanity.

How far into the process did you tell family and friends you were considering adoption? When did you tell work?
@Aimeevlog

We told family before starting. We told some friends throughout and we told work pretty early on as we knew they would be nothing but supportive.

Aimee vlog we have told our parents, my sister and my best friends. I’m thinking about telling work now as it would be me taking time off.

Me and my wife are considering adoption. Right now, we have two boys and life couldn't be happier but we have a nagging feeling. We've spoke about it a lot and concluded what we are feeling is guilt. Guilt, knowing that we have the space and could bring a child into a loving home but we arent doing it. I'm not sure if "guilt" is a good reason to adopt. I'd welcome anybody's opinions. If we do this, we want it to be for positive reasons. If its to make ourselves feel better, is that a positive reason, or just a form of selfishness?

Hi James, What I think is incredible...is that you're open to the thought. You are considering it openly, honestly and when you are ready to make that decision; I hope that the answer comes to you clearly. Having children, you already have some idea of what a life-long commitment looks like in terms of raising children. The adoption process is designed to teach you what that might look like with a child who has experienced grief, loss and trauma. Thanks so much for your comment :)
