If you're autistic and experience any of the following...
Temperature regulation issues
Food & water intake issues...
Difficulty mediating your emotional responses
A higher or lower than average sex drive, and
Sleep issues
I have an explanation that might offer some insight...
Research has found that autistic people have reduced gray matter in the hypothalamus... and the hypothalamus is what helps keep the body's internal functions balanced.
It helps regulate...
Body temperature.
Hunger and thirst.
Sense of fullness when eating.
Mood.
Sex drive.
Sleep.
And many other things.
Something I also discovered when researching this topic is that the hypothalamus also impacts dopamine, which research has also found to be impacted in autistic individuals. I think I'll dig deeper into the dopamine factor in another video.
But, if you've ever wondered why you experience any of the issues I mentioned earlier... there's a good chance it has to do with your hypothalamus and how it functions.
If you're autistic, let me know in the comments how many of the challenges I mentioned you experience... and if you found this explanation helpful.
