Virtuenow Maybe I’ll try the loose twists way because I hate plaiting my hair 😩. Do you have any video recommendations?
@Doc_McStuffins4 жыл бұрын
Same! I install loose chunky twists in blown out hair that gradually shrinks as the days go on and they look like locs as they age too. Sometimes they unravel but my hair clumps and stays in the half twist and just looks like one chunky loc. I can go on like that for a month or so, and it makes styling so easy bc my hair is already parted and there's no combing.
@candlecane4 жыл бұрын
Especially when they unravel. I've worn these loose braids (mostly) and loose twists (sometimes) for many years. When I wear loose twists, I don't retwist when they unravel. I leave them and they look identical to real locs because they clumped and compacted into "locs" while they were in the loose twists, lol.

For everyone wondering about the takedown. I've got you! I've filmed the process twice now but I'm taking a while to edit and upload it - apologies for that. Provided I don't leave them in for longer than 4 weeks, the takedown is pretty smooth. It takes a while to remove them but there's no locking or meshing and the hair is in a pretty detangled state, even after having been washed up to 3 times. It's honestly the best takedown I've experienced. To do this, I cover my hair with coconut oil well in advance of a takedown session and I use conditioner on top of that. I spread my takedown sessions out across a few days and I'm able to remove the locs with minimal breakage. This is still my favourite style for this reason. Imagine being able to remove a 4-week old style that you've washed up to 3 times (with clay) with minimal breakage!!! This is a revolution. I recommend you do a 'loc' test every so often by attempting to push your finger through some locs. If you struggle, it means your hair is locking. My hair always passed the loc tests. Hope this helps!

Like someone else said, this is a look 4c girls can rock beautifully that I doubt would work as well on looser textures. My hair isn't 4c but I think a lot of black women can relate to feeling like we have "bad hair" b/c we are trying to achieve looks that work best on someone else's texture instead of embracing looks that work best for our own. Shiny Nachos maybe you could do one or two the next time you twist your hair as a test. Lilian has a technique for testing whether your strands have actually loc’d: stick your finger through the plaits. If it goes through, you’re all clear. I’ve actually done a clay wash on these and they seem just as easy to remove as before washing. Let me know if you try them!

@NaturallyHigh4 жыл бұрын
Eniye Mission plaits are not the easiest to remove in general but what I’ve noticed so far is that they don’t get enmeshed in the same way that twists do when cleansed. I’ve done a clay wash and I immediately squeezed out as much water as possible before coating my hair in whipped Shea butter and stretching it in several plaits until bone dry. I did a removal test and the plaits came out as easily as they would without having been washed. Also, there’s a simple way to test if your hair’s locked: just try to stick your finger through the plait. Does it go through easily? Then it’s not locked. Absolutely! I'm experimenting right now with cleansing and I aim to share this once I've figured out a solid routine. In the interim, Lilian has great content on her loc maintenance.

Question how long can you wear this style for before it start locking permanently?
@s.k._4 жыл бұрын
It depends a lot on: whether you moisturize your hair often, do things like scalp massages while in the style, and whether you started on stretched hair. It should last *at least* a week or two with minimal manipulation, starting a stretched state with just the occasional misting and sealing every few days. But just like the in-between twists, the longer you go, the more patient you have to be with the detangling process, since frizz (and hopefully remoisturizing) are inevitable
@s.k._4 жыл бұрын
Yeah @lavidavi, by stretched I mostly meant a gentle stretch like a combed out braid out/dry twist out. Not like a blow out. My reasoning was that hair tangles and shrinking up on itself are a fast track to permanent locks.

Naturally High I tried it on a few parts of my hair and it looked so cool, but I wouldn’t be able to get it wet and let it dry it would tangle some type of bad. ☹️. The front part of my hair is 3b/c and the back part is 4/a. The 4a part would do great, but I tend to have a much harder time with the front part of my hair when it comes to tangles. I would probably have to add a little fake hair to keep my hair from getting knots.

Can you condition your hair while in temporal locs and how long can you leave them on?
@NaturallyHigh4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Check out my wash day video featuring my temporary locs as well as the moisturising and takedown videos. The longest I’ve kept them in is 5+ weeks.

I would love to do this but I don't understand how you did it at the root. Is it a tight 3 strand twists at the root and a loose one at the length and the ends?
@NaturallyHigh4 жыл бұрын
It's just a plait (braid) that's tight at the root.
@suzzyapril91404 жыл бұрын
Please does it looks like doing box braids? Cause am following what you are doing but buy all I can see is box braids?
@NaturallyHigh4 жыл бұрын
They are loose plaits.

I saw this some years ago done by Cipriana and tk wonder, the twins. They always have their hair like this. You can check them out on Instagram. I currently have in loose twist so will definitely transition into doing the loose braid. Thanks for sharing

Your videos are always informative and straight to the point, I love that about you lol I actually love the “temporary locs” style it’s bohemian yet chic. It looks really great on you too 😍 ...not sure how this will turn out on my hair because it’s fine, so the locs probably won’t be as thick or chunky as yours 😞but this style definitely suits you, well done ☺️

I think my hair is too fine and fragile for this style. It would frizz and matte up within days and I'd have serious breakage with the take down. Would've loved to try it though. Currently watching Anne with an E btw 😊
@NaturallyHigh4 жыл бұрын
brownsugarbabe0823 oh okay - you know your hair best! One thing you could try is to do one or two discrete ones the next time you style your hair. You could then assess how they evolve over time.
@itsmelizc4 жыл бұрын
brownsugarbabe0823 I have fine hair and I also have locs. Your assessment is likely correct. Especially since with this technique the root is twisted tight. You’ll run the risk of locking at the root and damage trying to get it out. You could try the reverse though. Loose root tighter end. It wouldn’t look the same but maybe could work better.
