Not only that, BG3 allows you to give some characters fate even worse than death. You can befriend Shadowheart (a victim of an evil, abusive cult), and she eventually grows to trust you, see you as a close, maybe only, friend, opens up to you and eventually she can even abandon her goddess, partially because she was inspired by your companionship. Then you can just backstab her and surrender Shadowheart to the cult who are hunting her, essentially allowing them to continue to abuse and torture her. Larian has balls, and allows making such evil choices that modern BioWare would be terrified to add to their game.

BG3 gives you plenty of ways to deal with characters you don't like. You can outright kill them, but you can also insult them, screw them over, or - hold your breath! - convince them to be less annoying. For all their flaws, I still spent time with all of them and ended up caring about them in one way or another. We didn't always get along but we somehow found common ground. The non binary aspect of their character was handled horribly and they execute it with such terrible insensitivity that I’ve ever seen. Bellara comes in second for me but no way near enough to Taash, I only dislike bellara because of the forced “quirky and weird” character type , that would better suit a Disney channel show. If they could be bothered to incorporate choices from the previous games; we could’ve have awesome potential companions, like Morrigan’s son who maybe still has a part of the old god’s soul within him that gives him limited control of blighted enemies. A mage killer? Fenris could’ve returned there. Nathaniel Howe or Hawke’s sibling as a warden. Excitable Veil enthusiast? Dagna would’ve made sense. Maybe if Anders survived he’s joined the Venatori and the one attempting to bind spirits to mages. Otherwise sure have new characters in their stead; kinda like what they did for Mass Effect 3.

@amycharri6 күн бұрын
To be clear, there needs to be more trans representation in media. But the representation should make people understand and empathise with these characters. So they will rethink how they perceive people who are like them in real life. How they handled Dorian's storyline in DAI is a great example.
@Rose_D6 күн бұрын
Well I think it’s more the fact that it wasn’t done in a lore friendly way. It’s also not solely because Taash is non-binary, it’s due to the fact that they act like a stroppy and abrasive 13 yr old yet they expect respect in return, Taash gave Emmrich shit for being a necromancer and perceived that to be who he is, but you can’t tell Taash what they are. It’s a hypocritical attitude and no one likes that. So really, it’s not because they’re non-binary, it’s because they’re unlikeable. There was a trans character in DA Inquisition, yet that wasn’t brought up randomly and none of the characters made a big deal about it. It wasn’t central to the plot, as it is with Taash, because the world revolves around them. That’s what people don’t like. BioWare could’ve easily handled it better in a lore friendly and interesting way, but they really did shoot themselves in the foot here. I agree that more representation is a good thing, but not when it craps on the lore of a well established series. They weren’t subtle about pushing certain narratives, and in a fantasy driven game, I can understand how that can piss off fans.

Veilguard might be good and it might not. I haven't played it and have no intention of playing it until I can get the ultimate edition on sale on Steam for like $5 or something. That said, I wish developers would get out of this mindset of "we don't want players to miss content". Missing stuff, or having consequences for certain choices, is part of what makes RPGs good. In BG3, you can refuse to save all your companions. You can also make choices that will result in them leaving. So their particular part of the story is just gone. And that's okay. That's what making choices means.

Dragon age origin's story and dialogue is filled with stories of life, moral choices, traumatic experiences, discrimination, estranged relationship, questions about the morality of the creator, the greyness of good and evil, and you can relate it all with things happening in real life. Dragon age veilguard makes us watch people yelling and complaining, no inspiration, no life lessons, no morality, zero emotion. While dragon age origins gave you a roller coaster of emotions. Just an example, the human noble storyline in Dragon age origins. I have caring parents in real life, so it's relateable, but at the end of the human noble origin story... Arl howe decided to betray the family, and the mother and father died fighting so the player can escape.
