IMO, all Tesla vehicles are works of art and certainly the CyberCab is no exception! For me, these hearken back to the days when cars were beautiful (Austin-Healey, MGA, Jaguar X models, Corvettes, even Pontiac and 1957 Chevys).

Doors are opening really wide, taking a lot of space on the sides of the car. Might be a problem, maybe they will change them for the production model.

Doors are too much open to the road. I don’t think it’s street legal. Will have to change for production.
@TobiasLindh2 күн бұрын
I think legally it's no problem. But i think scissor doors would be more practical and probably also cheaper to implement.
@DessieDoolan2 күн бұрын
It's an illusion. On Joe Tegtmeyer's channel he had some good overhead views of the open doors. They open only as wide as a Model Y doors open. Half the body width. It is a needlessly complex design though! Also uniquely the lock is in the B pillar instead of the door.
@ashh3051Күн бұрын
@@DessieDoolan why do you think it’s needlessly complex? What’s a better way to achieve the same huge opening for easy access without the doors protruding too far out to the side?
@DessieDoolanКүн бұрын
@@ashh3051 The opening isn't all that huge. Viewed at 1:29 the length of the door far exceeds the length of the opening. At the same time stamp it's just possible to make out the back of the front fender. Scaling the length of the door against the opening at that point, the opening is only 63% of the length of the door. It would increase higher up, as the B pillar leans back, but the door is still much longer than the available opening. The same could be said for any car door, and as I have a handy reference Model Y, the length of the front door to length of opening percentage is 75% (measured about lock height). There's good reason almost all cars have doors that are hinged to open horizontally, mechanically simpler. On this vehicle a mechanism is needed to drive that door upwards, hold it there, and lower it safely. This door extending forward to the back of the wheel has created an excessively long door, possibly the reason they had to design this upward pivoting door. I hope it doesn't give them the grief the Model X rear doors did.

@@ashh3051 I think scissor doors that rotate up instead of out might be better. Like the doors of the Bugatti EB110 for example.
@spookje1112 күн бұрын
Cool, but those doors wil not stay i bet.
@ashh3051Күн бұрын
I bet they will stay. When has Tesla ever made a significant design change like that between unveiling a product and shipping it?
@ashh3051Күн бұрын
Also, those doors are massive to give easy ingress and egress for passengers. If they just stuck out horizontally, they would stick out too far and obstruct passing vehicles. By putting them up on an angle like that, they reduce the horizontal distance that the door sticks out.

I don't like this design. The doors are impractical. I would prefer sliding doors like on a minivan. I would also like the seats to be higher so it is easier to get into and out of. Grab bars would be helpful.
