@@vidfan1701 This neck probably broke, it`s just that the doll is much more durable than a human, as it relies not on physical demonstration of damage like a ballistics dummy, but it has loads of sensors that measure the torsion, tension, compression and other forms of stress exerted onto the specific part of the dummy... They don`t break like we do, because they are madly expensive, or better said, the sensors within are, which is why the doll just needs to be very durable but flexible like a human body, as to allow the sensors to do their job in a safe human-like cage... That doll would likely not break the neck in a 100mph crash, but that doesn`t mean that a human neck wouldn`t break at this instance... The head and neck acrobatics that that doll has done in the elontruck is astounding, and you can see the head becoming a pivoting point in a way, it stops in place and the neck gets bent downwards at the shoulders by the inertia of the torso, which is interesting, as that 3pt belt should have stopped the torso in place by that point... Was that a belt sys. failure? Not sure, but i`ve seen merc col. footage from 2010-2015 and hell if i ever saw a doll slide that much forward... I'm in Straya currently where surprisingly, based on actual head injuries, bicycle helmets are required for most but have often thought that those in motorized vehicles could benefit from a HANS type system and harness restraint instead of the lap/shoulder belt. Your work analysis is valid only if the force is constant. In the case of a crash, the distance the head travels is much less important than the peak force (because force is not likely to be constant in a crash). In the case of the f150, the head of the occupants may maintain a higher velocity at first, and then encounter a higher force later, so the peak force could be higher (just applied later). As you allude to (but fail to fully disclose) in the preface of your "analysis" - it is the actual crash dummy head accelerometers and force transducers that tell the full story of head injury potential.

Okay, I've paused it at 10:58 and I'm going to say it's good, that the head travels further as that means the rate of X speed to zero is spread over a, slightly, longer time period and lets the safety features absorb more of the deceleration than the test dummy. I'll also note that I didn't like the look of the CyberCoffin's dummy movement, it looked like the torso move further forward than the head in an uncomfortable way, I think there's a greater chance of a neck fracture in the way it moved.
@PhiloSage11 ай бұрын
In my perspective the F-150 air bag also deployed further from the steering wheel thus spreading the impact out even further. The torso movement in the Tesla didn't impact the airbag at all, thus causing the head to stop and the body to partially separate from the head. So there's significantly increased chances of paralyzation or death. Both are extremely bad.
@marian-gabriel951811 ай бұрын
Yes because the pyrotechnic cap (or better yet these days - electric motor) in the safety belt mechanism and the air bag are not synchronized...and can cause more harm this way as opposed to not having it on in the first place....though that means the airbag doesn't go off anymore soo...yeah...they managed to get both wrong...

John, rewatch the two crash videos, the Cybertruck "driver" appears to have their face smashed into the steering wheel/yoke yet the body continues to move, jerking the neck through a severe angle. This does not happen to any great extent with the Ford. I don't know the intricacies of crash survival but the outcome does look far more optimistic for the Ford driver. FWIW another video of the Cybertruck crash test appears to show the rear suspension coming apart with the front impact, to me that suggests huge g-forces transmitted through the structure, I do realise that the Ford live axle on leaf springs will behave differently...

I made an engineering career based upon impact mechanics and neutralising the human organism. Some amazing physics goes on inside a skull, and it is well adapted to perform its function of protecting the brain, but there are limits and impulse loads are not well handled. As mentioned in comments, Dale Earnhardt Sr fought against bringing HANS devices into NASCAR and ultimately passed in an accident that HANS would have likely saved him. People will still do stupid things based on ego and hopefully self delete before propagating. Some may even think it’s an acceptable risk in spite of the evidence but likely they lack the physics education for that to be an educated decision.

One extra thing that I see in the cybertruck test is that the dummy's neck bends more which is not good, obviously
@InternetListener11 ай бұрын
7:51 after watching frame by frame both crash test I can only say, without having time and distance stamps analysis, that: - F150 airbags deployment is very convenient and has little room for improvement. - Tesla Truck airbag deployment is so slow that it starts to when Ford's is already holding dummy's head, precious time lost. - F150 chassis/body rebounds, gets to 0 speed before Tesla's, and head is already solidary with it, while Tesla shows there is still room to lower the average Force... - Tesla keeps absorbing energy in their truck body while head hits the airbag way faster than in Ford's (shorter distance between driver position and and front impact sensor/beginning of the truck plays a role). You definitely want to keep dummy/occupants speed as close to the crashing vehicle or minimize kinetic energy transfer to them and avoid biomechanical hazards, Tesla has much room for improvement. - We don't have data to assume 3rd stage of the crash (1st vehicle to obstacle, 2nd body to vehicle, 3rd life being internals vs skeleton or new shape of the crashing body) is safe in either of two. That means without data proving contrary Ford's occupants may withstand severe injuries if vehicle to obstacle forces and kinetic energies are still too high or transferred to them. - We need to see the measured dummy deceleration pulsation and see actual equivalent G's. I'm not hitting a wall at 35 mph with any of those trucks until F150 crushes more and enhances it's airbag+belt to the available arc-length shown by Tesla. Not driving a Tesla until they fit a proper preventive Ford like steering driving position, drive belts and airbag system. Aprox measuring of distances of the arc described by head's trajectories appear to be similar, so I would do a frame by frame position and timing and velocity and deceleration assessment in order to max out the information shown in synced video comparison... not obvious conclusion without video photogrametry and plotting some data... I don't see any good crash test result or no reason for not calling death trap any truck...I guess body on frame... althought they emulate in a certain level autoportant body or uni-body or however is called in english... Ironman and Robert Downey Jr. wannabe mine heir entrepreneur is just a meme of himself... there is one day investors are going to ask what is their money used for and maybe we'll see one of the fastest downfalls of all times... If money was not a problem I will crash faster them just to see at what speed (or EBS) A- Pilar to roof (or roof-less c-pilar triangle shape) angle starts to be a safety problem... 35 mph is not 40 mph overlapp from EuroNcap, neither 50 to 60 mph in front colision... full overlap is good to achieve high G and destroy full width and share the injuries but crashes have more variety in real life...

He strawmans out of context clips like "the cybertruck can't even go over a curb" or how "spacex is cheering their own rocket blowing up" to feed the fanbase. He'll also pull data convenient to a narrative while omitting contradicting information and gaslights viewers when he's wrong into believing he was actually right. All while propping himself up as some infallible hero who never fails. That's not to say criticisms aren't warranted but he knows exactly what he's doing and has realized this is much more lucrative content.

10:55 If you stop the car slowly, your head will not move. If you brake hard your head will fly forward due to the momentum. So it should be obvious in a crash test, the least your head moves, the better it is. The crumple zone of the car absorb the energy instead of your head. Interestingly, other than the passengers cabin, the more the car breaks apart in a crash, the safer it is for the passengers. F1 car is designed to disintegrate in a crash apart from the driver cage to absorb as much energy as possible.

Nice! Hypothesis forming is the first step in the scientific method and is often based on a guess from initial observations. As learned scientists and engineers, you and Philip should go out and perform further testing (crashing some Cybertrucks sounds like fun), gather empirical data, analyse said data, and form a conclusion based on this data. Report your findings and have it peer reviewed. Your hypothesis may well be correct but without all of the data we can't be sure. We'll have to wait for the NHTSA (or similar) to complete the science.
