@@theredline I have the M3P, I did post a comment regarding this in the feed. Price was a big factor, The I5N is over 30K more than the M3P in Australia. I’ll do track day through the week and make a post of what I find. I think the noises and emulated gear shift in the I5N (which i have driven on track) would be a novelty that would wear off. An EV is an EV, the advantages of being able to hear the tyres if one reason you would not want the noise. Driving in silence with an awesome sound system is like being in a space ship!

14 Things Revealed About the Ioniq 5N Nürburgring Lap Time 1.The Sport Auto channel released a video on January 18, 2024, showing the Ioniq 5N’s Nürburgring lap time of 7 minutes and 45 seconds. 2. One lap of the Nürburgring, a motorsports circuit located in Nürburg, western Germany, is 20.8 km (or 20.6 km). 3. The Nürburgring has 154 corners, and the height difference between the courses reaches 300 meters. 4. The Ioniq 5N electric vehicle completed two laps of the Nürburgring, demonstrating a maximum speed of 260 km/h and a battery temperature of up to 46 degrees Celsius. 5. When genuine electric cars from other manufacturers (typically Tesla) are taken to a race circuit, the brakes do not hold up, and the battery overheats, limiting output. 6. Therefore, the Ioniq 5N required a new braking method that could surpass mechanical brakes. Brakes wear more heavily the heavier the vehicle and the faster the speed. It is widely accepted that track driving with mechanical brakes alone is nearly impossible for electric vehicles, which are 40% heavier than heat-resistant locomotives and have high output. However, Hyundai solved this problem by maximizing regenerative braking, a characteristic of electric vehicles. 7. In particular, ‘N Brake Regen,’ which can recover energy up to a high deceleration range of up to 0.6G using regenerative braking, was developed and applied to the Ioniq 5N. 0.6G is the deceleration level in an internal combustion engine vehicle when the mechanical brake is applied hard and the vehicle stops suddenly. 8. Additionally, the Ioniq 5N has improved heat dissipation performance by increasing the thermal conductivity of the heat dissipation material applied between the battery cell and cooling channel. In addition, ‘N Battery Preconditioning’ technology, which provides optimal driving conditions by cooling or preheating the battery to an appropriate temperature before driving, was also applied to the Ioniq 5N. Reasons Why Lap Times of Electric Vehicles from Other Manufacturers Except Hyundai and KIA Cannot Be Trusted 9. Regarding Nürburgring lap times, the lap times of other electric vehicle manufacturers are less reliable. 10. Typically, in the case of Tesla, when measuring the Nürburgring lap time, it is done with a non-mass-produced car. 11. In other words, better brakes and suspension than the mass-produced car are installed, with different parts from the mass-produced car, and the lap time is measured. 12. Simply put, other manufacturers use unconventional methods to measure lap times for show. 13. However, Hyundai and KIA directly provide mass-produced vehicles to credible media to measure them. 14. The final conclusion is that Hyundai and KIA are confident in their performance and reliability.

Just a side note but regenerative braking is generally turned off in EVs when used on a track as it causes additional heat in the cooling loops for the motors and battery. You're charging the battery and this process produces heat. Most EV drivers on track prefer having the heat in the brakes over the heat in the drivetrain as usually it's the drivetrain that gets thermal throttled before the brakes fade. :) At the end of the day, just like with any car, you can upgrade the cooling system with aftermarket parts. A bit more complicated with Tesla though as they use excess motor heat to heat the battery for charging and to heat the cabin, the whole system is very specialized and not really off the shelf parts.

The thing is that if you are one of the few (0.005%) that take the 3P to nurburgring, you have to spend a few 1000 dollars on brake upgrades. If you do autox or dragracing, you dont need to upgrade the brakes, same with sporty driving in the mountains. If you do autox, an wheel swap to a square 265 or 275 setup will help a lot. At dragracing the oem wheels are very light wheel (forged), so there is no reason to swap tires or wheels for dragracing or street. With the brake upgrades, you turn off the regen so the overheat issues are no longer there. Even with the upgrades, at least in Norway, you will have saved tens of thousands of dollars compared to buying the 5N and running it stock. The 3P will then also still run much further per charge than the 5N. The Model 3 is also lower, it is much lighter and more engaging to do corners in - as you sit lower. Of course if you do nurburgring I would also move away from staggered wheels and do square tires so you get more grip up front. 265 or 275 square. Then you would be able to outhandle a lot of cars which are way more expensive. Of course you cant beat every car out there, but you can at least have very much fun for "ok price". Not to say that the 5N is a bad car, I like the engineering of Hyundai/Kia, also Tesla and others, but its not like any car is perfect at everything. Especially the range of the 5N can be an issue when doing track days, same with the added weight and high seating position as its a crossover.

The price difference between the 2 in Australia is over 30K, with the Tesla being more affordable. I’ve driven both and got the Tesla mainly due to the price, but I’m also looking forward to FSD and I prefer cars over SUV’s. My previous car was an i30N which I tracked regularly without issue, apart from some brake fade which was manageable. From what I’ve seen the Tesla is going to struggle with brakes and overheating issues, so i will find that out soon enough. As a road car and on back roads, the Tesla is amazing. Since most people never track their cars, any of the Tesla’s inadequacies would be irrelevant. I5N is engineered for 20 minutes sessions on track, and at the N Festival last year in Sydney where I drove the car, they did this all day long.

@@JohnLee-db9zt As another owner of the 2024 Model 3 Performance, and had a 2019 Model 3 Performance before it: The I5N is a great track car, better on the track than the M3P. But... I'd say the M3P boasts more benefits outside of the track. The Model 3 is lower, has a more sporty stance, and in my personal opinion has a much much cleaner interior with higher quality materials. The I5N interior looks really cluttered, but I have to say I'm likely biased as I've owned a Tesla for 5 years and very quickly adapted to a clean, minimalist interior. It's a preference for sure. Biggest benefit from the Model 3 is the constant software updates and the highly capable onboard computers. When I got my original 2019 Model 3 Performance it didn't have Sentry Mode (Dashcam built in), it gained better charging speeds and acceleration, better braking through an ABS update, several entire UI changes, along with many changes to the self-driving software and active safety features. And of course, Track Mode! All for free, downloaded over WiFi at home. Overall... For street use, I'd say the M3P is my personal preference, for track use the I5N is more capable. Depends where you spend the most time and what your preferences are I suppose.

@@krane15 on a very short track the Model 3 works. But it miserably fails on the nurburgring. I watched Misha's video. Not only did the brakes overheat 1/4th way into the lap but it also reduced power by 50% during the lap. The latter you cannot fix. On the other hand the Ioniq 5N did beautifully on the nurburgring for at least 1 lap. Hyundai claims it can do 2 including fast charging without thermal issues. But on the road the Model 3 excels. It always had been decent but the highland version perfects it. I just hope we see a track version with detuned plaid motors and a big brake kit. It weighs 800lbs less than the N which should make it excellent on track

The Hyundai has a far higher average charging date. The 10-80% average charging rate for the Hyundai is 190kW, the Tesla is just under 100kW. Tesla like to boast about its charging rate, but it is short lived. The charging curve for the Tesla is very peaky but the Hyundai is very flat.

@@teeminator30My comment is correcting a misleading statement in the video, that the Tesla charges faster than the Hyundai, but it doesn't. Tesla have very peaky charging curves, so they boast they can charge fast in their marketing literature, but the average charge rate - which is what matters - is far below the peak. If you want to pick apart the other advantages and disadvantages of each car, well that's a whole different discussion.

If you're actually buying either to track or even drive 'recklessly', it should be a no brainer. The new Highland M3P is a good upgrade, but it's cooling is still not up to snuff and it's still dangerously underbraked. Misha Charoudin who takes cars on the Nurburging, just did a Highland M3P and it lasted like a minute before the brakes started smoking.

Agreed if you're comparing stock to stock, but for the price difference between the two, you could swap in some really nice brakes and still be thousands under the 5N's base price. Too bad the Ioniq 5 is an SUV Crossover and a lot more expensive. It would have been cool if Hyundai committed to a hot hatch size/design. The front of the Ioniq is a hot origami mess, but the rear is cool. The Ioniq is just too large overall. Weird proportions. Hyundai range isn't great either. I really love Hyundai's audio feedback engine samples. It would be cool if Tesla had that optionally, with downloadable configurations for different-sounding sportscars. Is that only heard inside the vehicle, presumably? I like that LED display too. I gotta admit, if Tesla makes this available I'll be chuffed. It could easily be an OTA update. On the Tesla you're supposed to use two hands around the logo to gently close the hood. Bendy sheet metal, apparently. The Tesla's handles absolutely look better with a color-match, in this case in white. Tesla of course can use any Supercharger with the port in the best location. Hyundai owners will be able to use it soon, but not yet as far as I know. I would imagine the Hyundai doesn't charge as quickly as a Tesla, because few EVs do. The new V4 chargers go up to 350kw, which the CT can utilize best. I would imagine other Teslas will be able to charge at this speed soon enough, perhaps with an OTA update. On the Tesla you can tap the charge icon (in the app) to close the charge door. I do wish the app had a way to fold/unfold mirrors, but you can do this with voice command too ("Fold/Unfold Mirrors"). The badge is a 'Performance' badge but it looks just like the Ludicrous badge. It's nothing like the Plaid badge. What's nice too is that you can move the front seats from the rear control screen. Handy for getting in and out, or finding a happy medium for both front and rear seat passengers. Tesla's software is hard to beat too, along with their OTA updates (and FSD).

I just road tripped our Y from Long Island, NY to Orlando, FL. Because the Y was so comfortable and autopilot is a great aid on the highway (no I don’t think it’s really full self driving and I find it annoying quite frankly on streets), I ended up driving through the night and taking a couple of naps in the car with climate control on at all times, never shutting it off. I also had our dog with me and it’s easy to travel in the heat with a pet in the Tesla due to pet mode. I’d gladly buy another one. Agree with Rob though on the customer service experience compared with a traditional dealer model, However, I didn’t find the glass roof that bad in Orlando summer heat. It seems to do an impressive job versus other sunroofs / large glass moonroofs I’ve had with cooking you the least without a shade. To some extent, I think it’s a “hack” in the winter (when sunny) for efficiency. The Tesla can even take cabin heat and move it into the battery in the winter to keep its temperature higher while the car is parked.

The Model 3 has so many more features than the 5N that the video didn't even talk about, then with the tax rebate the M3P is over $17,000 cheaper since it qualifies for the tax rebate. The M3P has significantly more range, and is made in the USA. Also, some of the latest testing is showing the Tesla is putting out over 615 HP continuously and not just under a 6 second boost. So even though the Hyundai has an 800V system, they are saying the Tesla also charges faster, a button to close the charge port door would be nice to have on the Tesla.

@@OmarZ77 Non-issue and people blow it out of proportion. You don't drive hours straight on road trips. You take brakes. WIth modern battery and charging technology, around 20 minutes is enough to juice the car back up. 20 minutes is a reasonable break to take to go to the bathroom, stretch, etc.

@@trstnhn James May said it best (and he likes EVs), that this argument about taking breaks is meh, because you’re assuming my appetite and my need for a bathroom and my tiredness are exactly in sync with the battery. They’re not. What if the restaurant I’m stopping at isn’t near a Superchager, then I’ll have to stop twice. I occasionally take 400mi road trips (NY to Montreal). An EV does not work well for me at all. But I’m sure it works for those in the city.

i got used to the no stalk turn signals... 2024 model 3 dual motor. find it faster in MOST situations. Sometimes it falls down though.
