It’s mad to think that the new Model S is getting the same “laptime” in winter as the EQS 450 in the summer while being a mere 5 minutes worse than a Nio battery swap run and the PHEV reference run. Well done, Tesla!

Thank you, Bjorn. I went to look at the spreadsheet, to see if the dates between Plaid and Palladium were far enough apart to chalk the charging difference up to battery optimization updates (preconditioning algo). I think you put the wrong year date in for this test. It says 2022. Maybe it is just a matter of software update for preconditioning. I know with powerwalls, the updates go out to specific configurations earlier.

Bjorn, we have similar issues that some Tesla cars can't lock the charging plug. Tesla tries to lock it, you hear click, click, click,... sounds and then it gives up. The charging starts slowly anyway but that is still a problem. What is the problem, Tesla or a plug? The answer is Tesla unfortunately. What can help? You plug-in the charging plug and then you push it in really hard (I mean very hard) especially on the left side and usually the Tesla will be able to lock the plug. Otherwise visit a Tesla service and maybe hey can realign the locking mechanism. I hope this will help you and many others with the same problem that exists only on some Tesla cars.

There is no real difference for Performance vs standard in this type of driving. In my P100D from 2017r there is no difference too. It's because when you check power from front engine vs rear at ScanMyTesla then you'll see that with small energy usage all power goes only to the FRONT motor. And this is the one which is more efficient and it is the same on Performance and Long Range versions. So with driving at constant speed with small power consumption all AWD Teslas are FWD.

Hi Bjorn, love your vids. I am at the virtue of ordering a Plaid but am wondering about the consumption. I do notice your tests at 90 and 120kmh (GPS). However, ABRP uses a reference consumption at 110kmh. Would it be possible to align your consumption tests with that reference consumption at 110kmh ? That would allow ABRP users to use your data to check their itineraries more accurate. Thanks.

This is a great performance and shows it's already posible to travel as fast with an EV as with a fossil car. However, for most people with a family, this is already a moot point. 10-15 minutes just isn't enough for a proper break. So even a slower charging EV will work just fine. Just did 2000+ km with a Model Y RWD and never once did we need to wait for the car to finish charging after doing the bathroom, coffee/eat and leg stretches.

But still, a decent fossil car would not need to be refilled for such a short trip. My 2009 BMW 730d can easily do 1300-1400km on one tank. The later G11 730d has done London to Madrid in one tank, with fuel to spare. (1651km) So still not as fast as a diesel car for long trips. Also, refilling the 730d for another 1651++ km will only take 180seconds. Also, a old 730d with 300'000km, will still have the same range, a 300'000km Model S will not.
