I know Wreckfest gets brought up (hell an earlier comment said it). But to me, Eve of Destruction GETS IT. Like wreckfest has the nice models, but it still feels like little more then the Tech Demo set by "Next Car Game". EoD feels like you ARE living some hick's story about going to be the greatest demo derby racer from chicken farmer ever. The modes (which the ones mentioned mainly get used in Multiplayer) are so diverse. The minor management makes you feel like you're running a team basically. Every little thing just comes together to make the best experience. Honestly the "Use your back" is ingrained into me.

Great to see this underrated gem getting some attention! Sure FlatOut and Wreckfest are technically more impressive but for a more authentic feeling for American-based demolition derbies, Driven to Destruction is top-notch, especially with the unlockable cutscenes of the *real* thing. Plus the numerous different types of racing that more racing games should do- trailer-racing, chaotic flag-pole racing, I love all that! Likewise here in England, visiting oval tracks to watch Banger Racing (basically our version of Demolition Derby) is an absolute blast. 💥

Hello from America! This game feels VERY authentic to the at-track experience. I'm so stoked for my local track to open back up!
@60Jascar6 ай бұрын
@NoMooreMercyTV one of the things that really helped this game is that it was an indirect sequel to NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona. In that game you start as a dirt track racer & move up the ranks til you get to the NASCAR Cup Series. I believe it was the first NASCAR game to have a career mode like that. It wasn't as polished as the EA NASCAR Thunder games (and had no licensed soundtrack), but it was still a really solid game. The cars in Eve of Destruction feel very similar to the dirt street stocks in Dirt to Daytona. Some of the venues are the same too.

A little late to the party, but this definitely brought back some memories. The Car Soccer mode and a case of beer made for great weekend nights with college roommates and friends after we finished working on real racecars. We had one rule - no buses! It was too easy to play goalie with that thing. Now I'm going to have "...we're going in the same direction..." stuck in my head all day haha!

As unfortunate as the genre is, many familiar and unfamiliar with the derby racing genre often lambast having used car for such races as "American imperialism" or "Western wasteful culture" and as such, not many game developers would attempt banger racing for an already small audience. Coming from a nation doesn't even have F1, it's painful to see the most gamers know are that goddamn Need for Speed and at most, BurnOut or Forza.

@@NoMooreMercyTV Such complaints can be found on other derby videos circulating on KZbin, ranging from "why has no one died" to typical mocking Westerners. The usual schtick from ignorant foreigners. As for where I hail, it's a little country that "fought" the US from 1965 to 1973.

It might be tricky to get too, but just push up from the sides or the hood and it almost acts like a hub. That said, why the hell did they make Anarchy 1 the only song in the garage? Like I'd be midway through two lane Black top the "DUN IN DUN" when I entered. I eventually learnt to not get too fancy. But at the end of the day, that kinda feeds into the style of the game. Kinda. THE HAMMER! I loved this system where your cars built personality with the damage they heroically accumulated over time. I really wish Wreckfest used the same single player design as TD: EoD. Just extend the hubworld and event season, and then maybe make multiple seasons possible, like a sports game's dynasty mode, in order to provide unlimited possibilities in terms of how many seasons you could go, until you run out of money or cars, or become the undisputed champ.

That's a really good idea, I honestly don't like Wreckfest's single player design. It just feels so lazy and tacked on, like an afterthought.

There were a couple games I grew up playing that I have very fond memories of. Idk if they’re actually good, but back then I remember loving them so much. MRC for the N64, had some really cool tracks with secret paths like through a waterfall and stuff. Then there was a game I believe was just simply called demolition derby. That was a lot like this one. And then I believe a game called stunt driver? Or stuntman or something like that. You’d just do all kinds of crazy stunts. But my favorite racing game is a PS2 game called freekstyle*. You rode dirt bikes and would do insane tricks while racing and it was such a fun game. Idk if it holds up today, but I’m willing to bet it does.

FINALLY! Someone else mentions MRC! Super fun game but super limited at the same time, I think it only has 3 playable tracks which is brutal, even with the different pathways you could take. Demolition Derby is cool too, didn't play it a whole lot but theres a whole series I'll have to take a look at some day. Stuntman is insaaaaaaanely frustrating haha, cool game tho! I couldn't find Freakout! I just found a snowboarding game, are you sure that's what its called?
@Nathan350773 ай бұрын
@@NoMooreMercyTV I’m glad you know about MRC! For many years I couldn’t find ANY information on it online, as if it didn’t exist. Felt like a fever dream. But I finally got my hands on it! I didn’t know there were so few tracks. Maybe that’s why they were so memorable though

the things i would do to have this game remastered. me and my dad used to play this all the time on the ps2 and is part of the reason i am moving to a small rural town.

damn you didnt even get into the multiplayer. with three other siblings most of the time playing the game was in multiplayer firing explosive chickens at eachother

You're right, I didn't include multiplayer when I probably should have.

@@NoMooreMercyTV tbh all the multiplayer mode added was the battle mode that had you firing explosive chickens. But the game was great fun in multiplayer, it used to be a thing my family did all the time when i was younger

9:57 it doesn’t stand up to wreckfest it stands above it, wreckfest was amazing imo but something about that 2004 feel to TDEOD is so much better than newer games

If we could get the atmosphere, story mode and gameplay modes from this game and combine it with Wreckfest's soft body physics and visuals, I'd be set.
