Supposly I got a kit like this installed on my grand Prix when I bought 10 years ago, now it has over 300000 miles and still shifts good, so they might actually help!

Yes shift kits definitely increase trans life, a lot of the wear transmission endures comes from manufacturers trying to make the shifts soft for the consumers

Good kit I installed it in my 07 a couple years ago been happy with it since. Really didn’t have any issues before I installed it just did it as little preventative maintenance along with trans cooler.

Eric Lewis I have the same issues as you with my 04 gt except in reverse... front steering and brake components then evap pump which fyi you can get to from laying under car its straight up between the muffler and body on driver side... if your a big guy like me I'd say floor jack just for clearance... thanks for the how to instructions I'm glad its not pull the transmission issue

You work on your car yourself? I have a 04 gtp just had the transmission (it went totally out) rebuilt but it still shift hard from 1-2 gear but smoother for other gears for the most part. The shop says it’s has a lot of power from the supercharger that’s why it shift hard n firm but I’m not buying that. It shift fine when the car is cooler but when it really heats up, the shift from 1-2 it’s kind of hard. What do you think?

Ya I'm not that familiar with transmission work. I do mostly body work and custom stuff

Try a bottle of Lucas transmission fix, it seems to help

Did u ever figure it out?

If it's firm but not harsh it should be fine. Especially after a rebuild. But many shops will only replace what is either broken or worn down. Many do not do a complete rebuild unless you specifically ask for it and can be quite expensive. Generally a firm shift will keep your trans from wearing out your clutches faster. Gm puts torque management on vehicles with a electronic accelerator to reduce the chance of a consumer hotrodding and wearing out the transmission before the warranty expires. That is why before the rebuild it had much smoother shifts that you could barely feel. Every gm vehicle with a electronic accelerator has this. The electronic accelerator is is the gas pedal without a wire that you can adjust on the air intake in case someone is confused with what Im saying. Firm shifts on the tranny are fine, but if the shifts feel like a harsh kick or delayed shifting then yes you should take it back and get it checked out, especially after a rebuild.

@ericlewis50353 жыл бұрын
It's good. I couldn't tell a big difference. Think I need to do something different. Still shifts slow out of first gear

I actually found this gauge cluster at a Junk yard. Found it this way. Now it looks totally different. I painted it and got different led lights in them
