This is the second video of Sage and Jason repairing the SIlversides Radiator. After 8 days stuck in Witichita Falls, could they finally be getting back on the road?

With buses of this age, more than likely the block has sediment in it. I used to remove freeze plugs and then power flush the block itself. Often folks wonder what's going on with their radiators when the block is part of the problem. I used to have a manometer to check actual pumping volume of the system.

Those look like just casting marks on the manifold.

I got to send you the link to the radiator parts place I use. They sell retro caps and cores. I used to take care of a fleet. Hot tank is a thing but you can rod a radiator on the side of the road. The brazing is not too hard. Good to hear your not braking the bank. This one is special!

I actually had to change my fuel filter 9 times... not 6. Yikes. Luckily I converted from the old style to the modern spin on type. I shortened the pickup 3 inches so we will see if that makes a difference.

Dying vocation, most new radiators are plastic and aluminum. The kid will always have a job repairing older stuff

That gives me hope for keeping the shop going. The thing is that the newer truck has parts available and can get repaired fairly quickly. Great job guys. This kind of gives me an idea of what I'm looking at to remove mine. I did cringe when I saw them putting an impact on those bolts especially on the inlet neck(unobtainium).

I am a little late with this comment but your belt problem you was having is coming from the belts you show putting on with B47 on them. These belts are an industrial belt that is made for running machinery and will not hold up in automotive/heavy vehicle use. Go to a parts store and get 5/8" by 47" automotive belts that you can see the cord layers on the side.

If the pipe you repaired ever needs to come out, how would you get that nut off with the JB Weld around it? Would you be able to crack the JB Weld off with a chisel? Love seeing the workmanship on the radiator. You guys have tons of patience and energy.

Very true. But we need to get home. I located a replacement for the water manifold and will replace it.

You boys look fragged! And then to find more Swiss cheese holes in your manifold I dont know how you made it through. Even though I know you made it home it was still a sweet sweet sight watching the Bus pull out of the lot in the end scene. Kudos to you both! BTW Jason seems unnaturally nice even for a Canadian...................

Borgen Radiator in Minneapolis will do a hot dip or a solder repair or a complete recore of vintage radiators.

Liked this video. At 16:47 there is a still of a roadrunner. Excellent editing! I grew up on those cartoons. The Canadian guy is incredible: don't ever write him a script. Bless.

You probably broke down in the best possible place for repair of vintage equipment. Wichita Falls is blessed with oil field equipment repair facilities. They can fix about anything from around the world, Just don't think you are next in line. We'll get right on it means you'll get it when we are finished. LOL

I worked on radiators years ago as part of my job, but today I use a place which is pretty similar to Sonnys shop. I send a lot of my jobs there because the work is quality, the repair is cheaper than a new one (I specialize in pre 1980 Mercedes ) and the shop is fast so I don't have a car blocking up expensive shop real estate. Other rad specialists here don't have the same quality or knowledge like the rad shop i use. BTW Big industrial units use the same type of bolt together tank and core still .JB weld works well, I have fixed a big scratch in the bore of a Diesel engine .When i went to run a hone through it to smooth out the JB weld, the bore was wearing faster than the JB weld. It ran successfully (before i quickly sold it) .

Car Radiators have become throw-a-way units. 20 years ago I could get new side tanks and the gaskets for them (aluminum & plastic units). Now they have stopped selling replacements. That killed a lot of the car based radiator shops. Used to be $60-90 bucks to get one fixed (with parts) instead of $300 for a new unit. Now the new units are about $140-$200 for cars and suvs.

The Bus Gods sent you to Wichita Falls. That was one of the best places you could have been with this issue. One question - what is the round hole on the right side of the bus for?

It would be a good idea to go to a Davco Fuel Pro filter system like Scott has on his bus since it is very easy to tell at a glance the condition of the filter.

If all you can do is replace a radiator, why do you need a radiator shop? Is there some sort of secret code to ordering new radiators?

well, once the subscriber number is above 100,000 i bet the custom radiator shops will kick in Sage's doors. Griffin for example, they will make just about anything custom.
