Thanks for your thoughtful comments. We really try to take a real world approach to testing cars. We figure if you want all of the details you can get it from the manufacturers web site or the tons of other reviews on and off line.

Your reviews are informative and comical and I'll continue to watch them. Of course, I don't expect to get all the information about a car in an 8 minute video but there are other internet sources for that. Wish some comments weren't from users who take themselves so seriously.

Which is why the 2014 model 2.0 N/A was bumped up to 173 HP. I use a 2014 GT for a commuter. It gets out of its own way, merges respectfully and still maintain over a 30 mpg average. Can’t complain.

Glad you mentioned the sunroof. I think that feature, all of the standard equipment and a good stereo can lift a car into a different segment. I like it, and IDK, I think Nathan does too. Just love your fun reviews and your devotion. Lots of love from Cali boys!

I see your point - but we are misleading no one. Look, if I am looking at a hatchback that has "GT" on it, I would assume it's cut from a slightly higher performing cloth then the regular model. The Elantra GT does handle better than the Coupe and sedan, but it's priced too high. That's the bottom line, it's right up there with higher performing cars and would be cross-shopped with other vehicles in its price. Thanks for watching.

those rims are actually pretty good-looking, honestly. I hate full chrome rims but that looks really classy imo.

In most of their videos, Nathan or Roman say numerous times that this 0-60 test is more of a realistic test. You're not always going to be alone in the car, or at the perfect altitude for 0-60's.

I actually picked up my Elantra GT over the weekend. I pretty much got the second cheapest one they had at the dealership and my buddy haggled a really good lease payment. I went with an auto over a manual because of the amount of daily driving I do and constantly shifting 6 gears to get the best fuel economy would be too much of a hassle. I believe for a lower-end trim, you can't beat the value of their more base models. I have to say: it's a great value for leasing a fuel efficient hatchback.
@Jsv_1021O4 Жыл бұрын
I just picked one up yesterday 10 years later and it's still an amazing little car, it's my first new car that I bought, mine the 2014 but I opted for a six-speed instead of an auto, and it's an amazing little car
@tincanable12 жыл бұрын
Great video as usual. The way you try to inject some personality and fun to the reviews puts you above what others are dong. As for the price comparison your reasoning makes sense. In Canada the MS3 and GTI are in a completely different price bracket, both starting just under 30k. The GT starts at 19k and the trim with the sunroof starts at 21k with a few less bells and whistles than you tested. That makes the GT much more affordable for me. Hopefully the rumours of getting the turbo come true.
@TedCutTheCheese12 жыл бұрын
This is meant to compete against economy cars. Not Mazda 3speeds or gtis or anything else with over 200hp. It is a fuel efficient car that looks good.

Although I don't agree with "2valiumland" demeanour, I will concur on saying that comparing this car with a Golf GTI or Speed 3 is inaccurate. Its only in the USA the car is named Elantra "GT", in the domestic market and the rest of the world, its called the Hyundai i30, competing with the Toyota Auris/Corolla, Golf, Mazda 3 and so on.

I would love for you guys to do a vs of some of the economy hatches on the market now. I really liked what you get for the money on this Elantra Gt. the warranty looks good to. I have to agree with the majority of the comments here. This car is not a competitor to the Speed3 or GTI making your case to another comment where you said "We didn't stick a GT badge on the back of this economy car" irrelevant. The car is really just the GT or "sporty" version of the... wait for it... Elantra so in that mindset the badge fits. I highly doubt people will be cross-shopping the Elantra GT with the Speed 3 or GTI.

It's not a bad review, this was something I was kind of looking at originally. But the MazdaSpeed 3 and GTI aren't really in the same grade. You should really have compared it to the Mazda 3 and VW Gulf. The Elantra GT starts at around $18500 which is right where the Mazda3 5-door starts, and about 1500 less than a Golf. It's a good review I just think you may have just seen GT and $24K and compared it to the wrong stuff.
@CharNewc12 жыл бұрын
I like my Elantra GT. Sure it doesn't scream of the line, but how quickly do you need to go 0-30 in the city anyway. We test drove the Mazda 3 before leasing this one and felt that it did have more power but felt kinda cheaply made. The overall fit and finish of the Elantra GT is pretty nice. Love the leather and the dash is well laid out. You didn't show all of the space this car has by folding down the rear seats. There is a lot! The panoramic sunroof is sweet!

Yes, but at over $23,000 as-tested - the Elantra GT is financially in the GTI and Mazdaspeed3's territory. We like the Elantra and think it's a good ride. I would rather pay a grand or so more for more power. Thanks for watching!

Another idea might be to #1) replace standard airfilter with a K n N filter. #2) Use a well- known synthetic oil instead of a conventional oil & #3) put in an 8 or 12 oz container of octane booster right before testing. I recently had my oil changed on my 2017 elantra limited and requested synthetic this time- and what a difference the synthetic makes over time....im getting 1 mpg better in the city using the same driving habits and almost 2 mpg better on highway, using 'eco' mode at the same speed (70mph).....i have also started using non-ethanol gasoline.......I cant wait for my results- Ive already put 65 miles on this full tank and the needle hasnt moved off of full yet. Usually it will budge a little after 50 miles. Im still running 93 octane booster and I still have the K n N filter in the engine. Ill keep you posted.👍👍

Well, I'll start off by saying that I've put just about 6600 miles on it already as I happen to deliver food in it unfortunately. But personally, I'm very comfortable driving in it all the time. Quietness is kind of relative to the street conditions and I don't drive with the windows up most of the time. But when I do, overall I don't notice a problem with it being that loud when I drive. Also the engine is quiet. Almost too quiet. I sometimes turn the ignition to start again by accident.

Ok, maybe I was a little harsh. I apologize, I'm not a troll, just a car geek. I stand by my assessment, though--you assert that the car competes with the GTI and the MazdaSpeed, and I assure you, you are the only people on the planet who do. Really. The car competes with the SkyActiv and the Golf. Just because two cars are a thousand dollars apart in price does not mean they are competing for the same buyer. Otherwise a base Camry would be competing with a loaded Fiat 500.
@DavidOliveiraYadin12 жыл бұрын
I see your point with the GT badge too, and I understand it better now. But it's just for the name, really :/ Hyundai's making a bad move by selling it like that. It drives better, 'cos it's a different car (a very good one if priced correctly). And if it is like it is, the Golf is a much better choice. I can't even believe that a Hyundai i30 is pricier than a VW Golf. And a GTI even! But the market is like that sometimes. Keep it up the good work guys! :)

I think that even if they are leveled price-wise, it's still not the same category of cars. I don't think Hyundai's intention to compete with the likes of Golf GTI's, nor Mazdaspeed3's either. Globally the Elantra GT (I30 in other parts of the world) is just a hatchback, not a hot one. I usually really like your reviews, guys, but I think it's kinda deceiving to some viewers to have this comparison. And if Hyundai's trying to sell this with that idea, it's just bad marketing and a bad deal.
@doublen67512 жыл бұрын
You guys really think that was made to compete with the Mazdaspeed3 or a GTI? Try a Focus hatchback or a standard Mazda3. Duh...
@giantenemycrabX12 жыл бұрын
It's not supposed to be a hot hatch, just a hatch.
@2valiumland12 жыл бұрын
Fine, but that's your choice, and not a legitimate means for comparison. A base Toyota Camry might be a grand more than a loaded Fiat 500, but does that mean buyers are going to be comparing or cross-shopping? That $24,000 VW GTI you're touting also has two doors and 10 mpg less, city and highway both. It's a totally different market niche.

Having revisited my comment, I do admit it comes of trollishly, and I do apologize for that. However, I stand by my criticism. You're comparing a top of the range Elantra to a stripper GTI or Mazdaspeed 3, and no one is cross-shopping those models. To get similar equipment on a GTI or 3 would be closer to $28,000. Everyone knows the difference between a hot hatch and a Korean "GT." You act like Hyundai is trying to hoodwink people.
