Cheap copy of the Ford Raptor. Toyota even copied the Ford twin turbo Ecoboost engine which Ford introduced back in 2012. The price of this tundra is ridiculous. Better off buying a 3/4 ton Chevy, Ford or a Dodge truck for that price. I'll take my 2020 F350 quad cab 4x4 6.7 turbo diesel up against any tundra.

@@daleradder7354 dude your diesel will cost so much more to maintain and repair in the long run. It's not even in the same realm as this truck. The tundra is meant to be a somewhat work/family hauler, with some options for offroad (which will outperform your diesel in that respect because barring the raptor, ford just doesn't do off-road). You are comparing apples to oranges. Your truck will have more power yes. Reliability? Ok diesels are stout. Ford electronics? Not so much. Toyota on the other hand has made a fortune on it's reliability.

Great effort but two things for starters you’ll need a lot patience if you want the truck you designed with Toys website, WHY because the dealer I spoke (12/27/21) with told me production will slow in late January. Second, the head sales person I spoke with was clear that not even he knew much about packages, the sales person are simply most interested in quickly selling whatever they’re allotted. DO NOT waste your time trying to configure one now, wait until 2023 your patience will go much further.

The more I look at the 2022 tundras the more I think, eat the miles per gallon differences it not much and you would wear a truck out before it would make difference money-wise and buy a 2015 to 2020 Tundra with reasonable miles with good maintenance records that lives in a state were salt and rust is not a big issue, you know AZ and keep the 35 to 40 k difference for well the usual things you have to fix from time to time.

All the manufacturers are coming out with great vehicles today, even the base packages that are offered have so many standard options now. What worries me the most is that you will go broke now a days just buy a truck. And repair costs if you try to keep it for 8 to 10 years. Between all the tech features, 10 speed transmissions, turbos. To get a traditional type truck you will have to buy a 3/4 ton or higher if you want to feel what a truck is like. The old tundra you could put a plow on it, now no more. Wish they would come out with a heavy duty version.

Less volume low margin vehicles sold and only luxury high profit vehicles having a market, pricing out 80% of the population, decreasing CO and CO2 emissions. Just a theory.

I got 400,000 mile out of 2004 Chevy Silverado. Replaced the master cylinder on the brakes and a water pump that literally took 15 minutes. That’s it. Good luck when one or both of the turbo goes out on that tundra. There’s less power, the turning radius is now worst in class, there’s less room inside, compares to prior versions, and there’s no step at the back by the tail gate. That item alone was the most notable at first turn off, other than being a fugly truck. Toyota really disappoints. I know 2 people have issues with the turbo and after waiting a month there’s still no answer on the solution. Is is it mechanical or is it a software issue, they don’t know. And that 10 speed automatic transmission…good luck

The whole idea of a build page on the Toyota site is kind of misleading. You don't really get to build anything. It just lets you put together a wish list and then you go see if your dealer has anything close to that in their allocation of trucks. This is not a good year to buy without inventory to choose from. Hopefully, Toyota can turn that around in the next year or two. Let me know if any dealers play it differently. That's how it works where I live.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've always enjoyed your guys channel as often times you guys are able to grab that first new shiny truck that the manufacturers come out with. The towing tests since 2015 have been nothing short of phenomenal. The comparisons between last generation trucks and current generation trucks performance wise are amazing to see. I do wish for a couple of new things for this channel in the future though. Since Andre bought this truck, perhaps he can go into more detail into the truck as he owns in the long term. As a truck buyer I'm looking for longevity, serviceability by myself the owner, and the mechanical design of the engine and chassis. It would be great to know about the service intervals for each truck you review, where the filters (fuel, oil, and air) are located, how the fluids are changed, and if the spark plugs are in an easy to reach location. More information about mechanical design would be great as well. We can see the interior from the manufacturer's website, but we can't see things like specifications on the turbo, extra emissions components (secondary air injection pump, gasoline particulate filters, EGR), lug patterns, or if the lower control arms are made of aluminum or steel. It would also be great if a short explanation can be given as to why a certain component can be advantageous or not. For instance, stating that the 2022 tundra having a mechanical fan means that the cooling ability is FAR greater than that of domestic 1/2 trucks that currently use electric fans. A lot of truck channels had the opportunity to dive into the open chassis of the 2022 Tundra, but I am quite surprised that no one actually took advantage of it. Sure the engineer shared some details, but there was a treasure chest of information that was not revealed. Ford stated back in 2017 that one of the improvements they made to the turbo was making the compressor wheel out of a nickel super alloy. What is the Tundra's compressor wheel made out of? Does this tundra have a gasoline particulate filter or just the catalytic converters? How many pistons do the brakes have in all the corners? What sizes are the tie rods vs the old tie rods? Are the alignment tabs the same old crappy ones that toyota uses on previous trucks? Can you fit 33 inch LT tires? Are the spindles now aluminum? Is the drive shaft greaseable or disposable? How many splines are in the rear axle differential? Is the engine block open deck, semi open, or closed deck? How many bolts are on the mains? I feel like the truck channel that is able to answer these types of harder questions will be the one that differentiates itself from other channels this year.

Features like the tailgate step should be standard for a limited as well as the headlight trim. All the newer trucks have distinguished daytime headlight trims and it’s annoying you have to go above a limited to get them. Toyota also messed up by not giving the customer an option to color match trims on the front and back. You pay so much for the truck they should give the customer these options

I would love to get into this truck for a lease. The issue is that for the absolute bottom of the barrel base model you'll most likely be paying $500/mo minimum. That is atrocious and not worth it at all. The mark-up on all the vehicles in the market is obviously due to limited stock and the struggle to find new cars at dealerships but still. $500/mo is wild and the worse part is that it is actually one of the cheaper of the full-size trucks. Only other way you're getting cheaper leases is the A plans for Ford or something similar.

Hey TFL - What do you guys think about the fact that Toyota chose to save chips by removing the motorized controls from the cloth seats? In my opinion, this was a poor choice to save chips when there are many others in the truck less important to buyers. They of course have not come out and said this explicitly, but it's obvious they had to save chips where they could and this is one area they did. Almost every 2021 SR5 came with motorized seat controls, since they came with the convenience package.

The most reliable and safe option for us here in Canada during winter commute. Would like to compare both offroading, fuel efficiency, overall comfort, space for luggage, ect. We also consider replacing our 2008 Highlander Limited (v6 fulltime 4wd) for a modern Highlander Hybrid Platinum. Even though it is not really comparable with the other 2 it is way more efficient and I believe bigger inside. Than you for your great videos.

The thing that made the Tundra stand out from everyone was how they integraded the extended cab truck door into the body. I know its just a little thing, but they tiny doors on the extended cab trucks are just so ugly to me. Its disappointing for the redesign to not have that.

I agree, I really like how Toyota designed the 2nd gen Tundra extended cabs. I’m also disappointed that they followed other manufacturers with door handles that are so close to each other

What if you want to add a winch ? Even the TRD PRO gets the plastic front bumper with no recovery hooks. I wonder if the aftermarket will be able to make a winch bumper with the way it is integrated to the grille and fenders ??
@ALMX5DP

The aftermarket should be able to do nearly anything. Isn’t that arrangement kinda similar to 4Runner or Tacoma? Those both have pretty extensive aftermarket options to include winches and such.

Great informational reviews and wants me to buy a Tundra…. But when I go a Toyota Dealer site… there is tons of dissatisfaction reviews and many put on 3000-4000 and trade them as Dealer can fix the issues Vehicles shut down and can’t get them started Just to name a few This scares the heck out of me for the huge costs. Is it just a few lemons or what the heck is going on I really want to purchase a Tundra and drive it and maintain it for 200K miles But don’t know if this is doable? Confused… Great videos guys

That trans tunnel is huge, it reminds me of cars from the 70's. How's it that most trucks can eliminate the tunnel or reduce the size so its not an issue, and Toyota can't?

I don't like that the black softex interior is restricted to certain package options in the limited and SR5 trims. I also don't like that you cannot get the TRD package on the platinum but you can on 1794. They need to offer the 1794 or TRD off road trims with more standard or traditional interior colors, black or grey ect. Get rid of the chrome grill surround on the limited, body matched paint looks so much better than the chrome in most cases.

that rear diff looks smaller than the outgoing tundra. when the New for 2007 tundra came out there was a huge PR campaign with tv commercials al the time showing how beefy all the components were compared to the "big 3" and commercials showing it driving up a huge ramp on fire etc. this new tundra? crickets. I have yet to see a single commercial showing just the new tundra. not a good sign. and I live in the upper Midwest. trucks are the majority of what people drive.

Late to the party. Thought I'd update anyone reading this. I have 23 limited trd off road. No complaints great truck for sub 60k. Is the truck perfect? No. Could toyota have done better on the redisign? Yes. Over i think the sr5 trd OF and limited trd OF are really good bang for buck. If you want more options or capabilities then spend the money and go ram or ford (more play go ram trx, more luxary only go gmc but eh on that, more work for f150.) Overall limited and sr5 are amazing imo and anything over 60k i would shift to another truck and just pay 70k.
