Honestly the fact we killed a Fallen Archon in our first actual mission is rather significant. Fallen hierarchy at this point is a very simple structure. You have the Prime Servitor, which is worshipped as a God by their respective House. This is because they are made in the image of their Great Machine (The Traveler). Under that you have split authority between a House's Kell, who is their military leader and their Archon Priest, religious leader. The Archon Priest is responsible for maintaining the Prime Servitors. Saint-14 killed the Kell of the House of Devils before he disappeared, Solkis. He has never replaced and instead the House of Devils became puppets of the House of Kings, a fact we don't know at the time. So basically our first actual mission after initially escaping with our ship we managed to knock out the second in command of the House of Devils, the primary Fallen threat on Earth. It's a big part of the Fallen narrative all across D1's life. We kill any and all leadership figures we come across, which directly lead to Uldren and the House of Kings uniting them all into the House of Dusk prior to the invasion of the Red Legion.

More fun facts about Dinklebot's D1 depression: Before the collapse of the game's original story, he was supposed to have a very minor role with characters like Zaval and Cayde giving mission dialog. When the story was rewritten, Dinklebot was the last one to record his lines and just ended up with all the exposition the other characters were supposed to give. All this info is from a book called Blood Sweat And Pixles, which talks about how much of a shit show game development usually is 9.863/10 would recommend.

@@FlammableRadish Here’s the problem. When people pay for stuff. They expect to keep it. End of story. Yes, it doesn’t make the current state of the game into a complete mess, but it rightfully pisses off a lot of folks. Because not only can we no longer access the content we paid for, but they also expect us to pay $40 every 3-6 months. That’s how you loose players’ trust and interest, not increase it. A member of the old guard like myself should be able to come back, play the OG content from a while ago, and if the game holds my interest, start buying the next DLC. Instead we’re given virtually nothing to come back to without a minimum price of $40. Very few people are going to be happy with that arrangement.

They should've stuck with one or the other. As someone who started in D2 and grew attached to Ghost being the voice for the silent protagonist it was extremely jarring when our guardians suddenly got voices they'd never had and started making occassional yet really unimportant comments. I personally really appreciated the silent era as it allowed me to develop my own view of my character, but if they'd kept the guardian fully voiced from the beginning that wouldn't have been a problem. This modern sort of half-baked thing they're doing is the worst of both worlds IMO.

Probably the worst thing about this franchise for me overall is how we've been strung along and drip fed narrative that never seems to go anywhere. This has the chance to be such a rich and fleshed out sci-fi universe to rival other great sci-fi games like Mass Effect, Halo, etc. and yet we're here 10+ years and know next to nothing about what TF is going on. There's lore, but you always have to go outside the game and dig for it and even then, it never really leads to any payoff or conclusion. Still no idea who/what the Traveler is, who made it, how it came to be, where it came from originally, etc. It's almost like Bungie just keeps making crap up as they go along to keep stringing people along for DLC. Every expansion just adds more confusion with retcons or screwing up details from past lore and now we just have this giant jumbled universe with no answers and more questions. For someone who loves narrative heavy sci-fi games, it's been the number one issue I've had with Bungie after the first few years Destiny was out. I'm guessing Final Shape will continue this. The Witness has been built up like this incredible big bad, and we'll just steamroll it like we do everything else and won't find any final answers to the story and they'll just go back into milk mode with the episodes and some story nonsense with the Vex that just keeps on going with no real conclusion every being reached. Eramis is the best example of how bad Bungie has been trying to weave any kind of story and I feel like The Witness/Final Shape will just continue on with the same old same old. I never liked Dinklage or North's ghost voice. The only time I enjoyed listening to ghost was when Sagira took over for him when we were doing Curse of Osiris. That actually made me hope that Bungie would eventually sell voice packs for ghost so you could customize it how you wanted it.

You forgot to mention all the gameplay quirks, like how every single boss's mechanics was... shoot him for a while, go into cover to reload and regenerate, pop out again to shoot him for a while, rinse-repeat. And the bosses had MASSIVE health pools. When you got engrams to decode, they could be blue or purple, but would sometimes (very frequently) decode into a color that's a step below the engram's color - so sometimes a blue would decode into a green, or a purple would decode into a blue. There were like 3 strikes total - you just kept rotating between those three, and it was awful. Nightfalls were exactly the same as strikes, just harder. And by harder I mean enemies have more health and do more damage, but there would be zero mechanics like surges or champions. The difference between classes was minimal. There was no class ability, you had a grenade, your melee was always charged but the charged melees were very mild compared to now, and the jumps were different. So the only major difference between classes was the super. Did I mention each class only had 2 sub-classes? Yeah, each class was missing at least one type of energy sub-class. Titans had arc (fist of havoc - just a floor slam that does big damage) and void (ward of dawn), warlocks had void (nova bomb) and solar (don't remember their solar super), and hunters had arc (blade dancer) and solar (golden gun) A lot of upgrades required materials from different planets, so you had to farm a lot of them, and there was nothing to help you "detect" them, you had to see them with a naked eye and collect them. Spirit bloom, spinmetal... others evade me. There were lore cards in the game - you had to "unlock" them by finding them in the game, then log in to a website to read the unlocked card for a bit of background lore. Wonder if anyone archived them, because I can't imagine anyone read them voluntarily XD Titan shoulder smash melee was broken in PvP - all melees were always charged, and the shoulder smash required you to sprint for a bit to build it up, but then if you hit anyone with it, it was one hit kill, not to mention it has a homing quality to it if someone is close enough - enemy a bit to the right? No problem! Your titan will auto course-correct right in the enemy's face and obliterate him/her. I remember I once did a match doing nothing but shoulder smashes and I still came out as number 2 on my team. The ONLY good things about Destiny 1 were the Crucible and the raids. Vault of Glass was and still is amazing. Crota's End raid was cool, but easily cheesed - people found a way to solo it, bypassing the encounters that do a player number check by requiring multiple people to do different things simultaneously. But you did need to have Gjallarhorn to beat Crota alone, otherwise you'd have a very hard time trying (and failing). Warlocks could still manage, but hunters and titans were better of having Gjallarhorn for Crota fight when soloing.

Just a correction about the Black Garden minotaurs: The Eschaton Mind actually symbolizes the Vex faction in the Black Garden--Eschaton signifies the end of the *present* age, much like the Black Heart does. Note that the Sol Divisive are all grassy. The Imminent Mind symbolizes the future, as something that is imminent has yet to occur. The donut head is also thematically the same as the Vex Descendants. The Descendants themselves aren't actually grassy, just that location in the Vault.

Rewatched your Light fall rant yesterday. Your greenscreen critiques are the best thing about Destiny at this point.

I have never, in my almost ten years of destiny, heard someone represent me so accurately on how I feel about the ghost's voice and its recasting.

Was just casually rewatching this video and Jez mentions his pregnant wife at ~11:30 then says she's not actually pregnant. Video was uploaded 5 months ago, Jez says Amy is currently in third tremester, ergo she actually was pregnant at the time of this joke and Jez fooled us all.

Five nights at Freddy's didn't create furries we existed since the 90s and I really like destiny 1 more than destiny 2 actually also how are you able to get Peter dinklage's voice lines they changed the ghost's voice actor in The taken King and replaced all the old voice lines with the new voice actors

I could watch an entire half an hour video of you reading destiny reviews, laughed out loud multiple times. I'm sure it's only funny to a small subset of destiny players with 7k+ hours but hearing people openly admit they had never played the game but still felt qualified to review it or that they had to warn people not to play it because it was so bad despite having played multiple thousands of hours themselves with no plans to stop was hilarious to me. The public perception of this game is so bad, I can't get any of my friends to try it. P.s love you Jez, keep up the great work, been subscribed since taken king.

I read the title as "The Awful Absurdity of Density" and I was hyped for a science video explaining why density is in fact a lie.

I loved PD's Ghost. It's like no one cares that our Ghosts are still robots. Which are known for not having emotions.

Eh. We’ve seen that ghosts can have different personalities so having one that is that robotic is kinda lame

Getting into semantics and lore, the stranger (Elizabeth) was, in fact, correct that she wasn't forged in light. Clovis Bray's journals from Beyond Light described how he needed "clarity control" (darkness) to combine with vex Radiolarian fluid. This mixture of semi-paracausal milk was then used to stabilize the exomind project and prevent the billboard/crash cycle. The billboard/crash cycle is described as the human consciousness in an exo frame, realizing that: 1.) It's not breathing 2.) It hasn't eaten or drank in days 3.) It hasn't slept in god knows how long 4.) The Bekenstein limit mentions how data eventually reaches a limit within a finite space, so the exomind could eventually become overloaded with information and crash So yeah, that tainted Radiolarian fluid was very much necessary for exo's to even exist.
