If you come to Malaysia, do ask for "Teh-O Ais Limau". "Teh" is "tea", while "O" sounds like "black" in Hokkien, which has been adopted by everyone here. "Limau" sounds a bit like "lemon", and refers to the larger limes, though they don't grow as big as those overseas like Tahitian Limes. An excellent pick-me-up on a stinking hot day!!

The Builders brew may not be all that bad taking into consideration the sugar in recipes today. Its just that the tea base they use for these things in Asian cuisines is likely a higher quality orthodox grade tea than what can be found in supermarkets

Would it be ok for me to use just cha dum yen as a base and add extra water and lime over ice? It would be really convenient to have just one jug of cha dum yen in the fridge and can either add milk or lime depending what I want to make.

Cha I think is how most Asian countries call it. For sure that's how you say it in Chinese, Manderin and Vietnamese. However in each countries it's said in a different pinyin

Keri Young here in the Philippines we call it "tsaa", which is pronounced as Cha-a 😊

While Te is the name of tea in Mandarin, Cha is Cantonese Chinese. Northern Thai called it "Miang" (Tea was originated on the southwest of China and northern part of SE Asia paricularly MM, TH, LA. Ancient Northern Thai did't drink it but ate it as food. If you interested, copy เมี่ยง ภาคเหนือ, google, and see the pictures) You can search for what i say on the net for more info.

@@bend.6091 In Mandarin we call tea "Cha". Not sure about Cantonese though. Probably "Cha" as well. Do you know where in mainland (or Northern) China they call it "Te"? Just curious.

I would suggest Thai tea which you can find online eg Amazon, but if you really can't, any black tea (pure, not blended) would be OK

"cha" in thai is loanword from chinese, indian languages also transliterated from that.
