So hard for us in the west to understand how big a deal skin color is. For many Thai guys, darker skin is a deal-breaker, even if the woman is otherwise stunning. And girls with darker skin definitely suffer bullying while growing up, as the one interviewee said. So sad.

my partner told me that women from isan who still hold their wider lao nose choose to tighten it, in some cases, to fit in when they go looking for work in Bangkok. we as consumers in these markets are always looking to enhance our image, the rise and convenience of dating apps and social media have made first impressions mean more than anything. the thai mobile and internet infrastructure is a blessing and a curse. its sad to hear but i also think its up to the person what will make them feel better and more comfortable in their skin, adapting in a world that points out your flaws.

as a thai who doesn't consume thai/ asian content and media as much, watching this video is depressing as hell. beauty standards are different around the world and they also change over time. i don't think you should feel pressured to change your appearance to fit in the trend.

Its a timely topic. Im in Sydney and about to head to Thailand with my Thai partner... The last time we travelled over songkran and she chose to take the time to have a nose job whilst staying with family...this meant several weeks of pain followed by a short trip to Phuket and speedboat/etc tours while still in a bad way.... I actually begged her not to do it but its what she wanted.... At the end of the week we travel again..and again she booked surgery around the eyes.... I told her its dangerous, please dont...begged again to stop but she insists...this time there will be songkran then a short vietnam trip on return... From the interviews I guess now I understand, especially as she spent years in Korea before.. but I still hate it.... Its so sad to see and who knows how it will affect them as they grow older? Ill be in Jomtien over songkran and wan lai...guessing you will be in Bkk?

The girls in the student uniforms are still a bit young so qualified their remarks but they expressed openness to the idea later. Some girls accept that they are unattractive but others will do anything to get attention and praise. Pretty girls are often the first to get work done because they have more to work with and get better results. The way they use descriptive nicknames can be pretty brutal by western standards but that is the way they address each other. Social pressure is just builtin to this group oriented culture. Trying to impose our ideas of beauty or individualism just doesn't work in my opinion. Just let them do whatever they feel they need to do to fit in as it is their culture and their lives. The older woman was very clear that the work she has had done makes her feel better about herself and it is worth it in her eyes. For me this is pretty much a nonissue.

Need a video on Thais wearing braces for fashion reasons, and appearing wealthy. As an Aussie that's mind boggling. We think braces are ugly and painful, and here clear aligners to straighten teeth are all the rage. No one wears metal braces anymore.

Thank you for the vid. I still can't believe it's up to 90%. Lots of my foreign friends like to argue about this topic. I know that actually it's all about an individual's insecurity. Body-shaming is one of the causes. I'm interested in seeing women/men with plastic surgery in their 80-90s. There are western versions, but I can't find eastern ones. I also wonder about next generations. Cheers!

It made me so sad to see all the plastic surgery and cream jobs during my last visit to Thailand. I will never forget going to a hair salon and the hairdresser complimenting my hair by saying " I love how you color your hair." I looked at her in Thai and said "Thank you but my hair color is natural." Next she said, " Oh I love how curly your perm made your hair." Which I replied, "Thank you but its natural curls." The last thing was " Oh can I do a treatment on your hair?" My response was , "No thank you I am a natural person and am happy how my hair is !" Her face was shocked! I wish more Thai people would embrace their outer beauty!

Thai women have told me they'd like a nose like mine. I think their little noses are cute and a nose like mine would look ridiculous on them!
@KellieBell7 ай бұрын
I don't understand the nose thing. A straight nose? But all noses have curves. And why such a priority? Do people Thailand think "Oh wow, that girl is so sexy. Her nose is just the most beautiful nose I've ever seen!" Occasionally, one might have a nose that is a bit disproportionate to the face, but its not a big deal. Jennifer Gray will forever be known as that beautiful 80s actress who ruined her career by having her nose trimmed. But I probably just don't get it because I live under different cultural beauty standards. Boob jobs take huge priority over noses here. With the right boob job, nobody will look at your nose lol.

I know you didn't touch on the subject of exercise, dieting, etc, but based on these breif interviews, the 'easy way' is preferred. Most Thai ladies would do well to get their butts into a gym and do serious workouts. Secondly, get into the sun and get golden, and of course learn to diet and eat healthy. Diets don't come in pills either. This stuff is effective, it works, it builds genuine confidence, and it's very healthy. What I'm hearing in the interviews is laziness and dreaming.

It is interesting that the woman who appeared to be the most confident was the one who has had the most "work" done. She mentions doing it for confidence... but she kind of strikes me as having a personality that would be confident regardless. She also is one of the older women... with age comes confidence... and the income to afford surgery, lol.
