BRO NGL I only cried 3 times at celebrities death: Michael Jackson, Chester Bennington and Akira Toryiama. What hurt the most about Akira was the feeling that my childhood died with him, DBZ represented so much of my childhood and my frienships back then that him dying shook me to the core in the realisation that all of that is actually over. I knew it was over dammit I'm 31 but I never actually realised it.

Here in Brazil, being the country with the largest number of Japanese descendants outside of Japan, many animes have always had priority on TV over Western cartoons. Dragon Ball, to this day, is many people's introduction to the world of anime. However, something that often gets overlooked is the number of illustrators it has inspired around the world, and that includes me. The simple, stylized art style of Dragon Ball was always the first thing we learned. Whenever we felt our drawings were terrible, we would return to that style because every drawing in the Dragon Ball style looks good. This provided the motivation that drove us to keep trying and improving.

Oh man do I have so many memories of all this. So many DBZ Linkin Park AMVs have just been stored away in my brain for decades now. And I loved that father/son AMV set to Still Fighting It by Ben Folds. Thinking about it now it really is crazy how much watching and rewatching of DBZ I did back then. The Toonami airing was life. I remember after Final Atonement aired there was no new episodes for nearly a year. I knew a bit about what happened because my brother and I had shitty internet access that we used to pirate the movies before they got american releases and such. But when that Toonami long promo released on CN for the next part of the series starting with Evil Lives On I remember screaming for my brother to come see it I was so excited. When the Budokai games came around I played them endlessly. Every time I unlocked some new cool beam attack I had to get my brother to show it to him EVERY time. And I remember my favorite was downloading the old DBZ Half-Life mod someone made called Earth's Special Forces. I would play that online and join lobbies where people would just beam struggle against eachother all day. Shout out to anyone who remembers ESF. And I also stayed up too late playing Legacy of Goku 2, Buu's Fury, and Dragonball GT Transformation on my GBA. I also remember being part of an online community in the form of "SatanCity .net" which was basically just a forum where people shared cool DB shit and talked about the series. I remember coming across Dragonball AF and trying to discover if it was real or not. My brother and I once downloaded a bunch of little animated dragonball sprites until the family PC desktop was just a mess of little DBZ characters fighting and powering up and shit. Probably a miracle we didn't destroy that PC with viruses. My old best friend Jeff and I when we were kids always pretending we were super saiyans fighting some crazy enemy we came up with... This stuff is all irreplaceable and it's all thanks to Toriyama we have these memories.

I only liked Linkin park through AMV’s back then funnily three days was more of my band as a edgy kid, but i will stand by this opinion though that crawling is way too edgy, and it hurts Linkin parks image and maybe in the end is overplayed i still love it, but even they prefer somewhere i belong, and i definitely agree, hell crawling just feels like it was made for the time period so it doesn’t age particularly well.

I don't have as long a history with Dragon Ball as most. I was 19 when I was finally able to decide for myself what media I would watch, and I put together a list of things I had missed from childhood. Dragon Ball was a part of that list. It felt epic, and timeless, and when I finished I went out looking for more. I found DBZA and fell in love with them as well. And I became a fan. So sad about the loss of Akira Toriyama.

I'm a very recent Dragon Ball fan--I read through the manga literally only in like October--but still. Dragon Ball is something special. It's something special, and you can feel that magic it has that nothing else really does. DB isn't my favorite manga, but it is the one I think has the most heart to it, the most soul to it, and it really deserves every bit of praise it gets. Akira Toriyama was a true legend.

I remembered when I was little, my first introduction to DB was at my aunt's house. The Frieza fight arc was airing in hindi at the time when I was in my home country so I sat down to watch it since I had nothing else to do and was immediately glued to the screen. I loved samurai jack as a kid and felt like most shows at the time were like it until I saw this fight. I still remember every moment about it, being in complete shock to when Goku was forced to kill Frieza despite him not wanting to is still one of the earliest memories that I can call so vividly. I haven't gotten into this series since then because I did not remember the name of the show at the time but tbh I would've been a dragon ball fan of I did so it's all good 👍. Then in 1993 when I was getting to know what anime was, in an EGM magazine I saw some images of a Dragon Ball Z arcade game and a couple of fighting games on the Super Famicom. 1995 was when I got to see Deagon Ball on TV right after I saw the Spanish version of the mangas. 1996 I saw DBZ on TV right after I graduated high school. I even went to rent Dragon Ball Final Bout from Blockbuster video when it cane to America. Man, i could make a whole video myself talking about this and other shows I grew up with.

I always loved dragonball since DBZ would come on tv on Saturday mornings when I was young. I never really got into the fandom or games tho, cause as a girl growing up that stuff was really socially inaccessible, especially when boys my age would get really elitist about it. So for a while I pretended not to like it but would still go crazy for it on tv. I found Goku really inspiring and he genuinely helped me to become competitive and never give up on something, especially athletics. I even forced my dad to watch one of the movies in theaters with me since I didn’t have any friends at the time that would. I’ll never forget, in fourth grade I was one of two artists in my class. I primarily drew dragons, and the other boy only drew dragonball characters. He was super good at it, almost replicating the style perfectly. In my head we became bitter rivals and I always did my best to show him up with my art skills without telling him. I always wonder what could have happened if I approached him as a friend instead

I remember 28 megabyte Real Player Video files taking many hours to download, but I was so happy to have a new episode of DBZ to watch, even in its terrible quality and with subs so small you could barely read them due to the low resolution. Just finished the video, absolutely loved it. I feel like a bit of an outsider since I didn’t get into dragon ball until the pandemic, but I remember a lot of videos similar to the ones you talked about popping up from other fandoms I was apart of at the time. Those tenkaichi text fan fictions took me back because I used to watch similar videos in Mario 64 all the time as a kid. I had the exact same creative awakening you did but with Nintendo fan content which I think is really cool. It’s so crazy because even though I got into it so late, I still see dragon ball as this motivational story that always compels me to become the best version of myself, to always try, as that song goes. Will definitely be adding that to my gym playlist lol Also I wanted to say, I adored all the green screen edits you made putting yourself in the background. I know you’ve been doing it for a few videos now, but it felt so raw and special in this one specifically given the subject matter. That shot of you laying down face up on the nimbus is such a vibe. I feel a similar way about Osamu Tezuka, and he died before I was even born. For them to not be alive anymore carries a surreal feeling, especially when their work still holds relevance. When someone touches you with their messages or their works they seem immortal. Love that you specifically used music from The Legacy of Goku games. They had such an amazing soundtrack and the 8bit versions of the US score are done so well. Those games were so ahead of the times, literally just isometric DBZ: Kakarot like 20 years earlier. Free roaming on the GBA blew my mind, I miss being a kid man lol.

Wrote the comment before I got to part of the video where you specifically mention LOG... you're such a real one dude. Thank you for making this content, I still stand by saying you truly are the late night Adult Swim of YT. Best vibes bar none.
