Gday mate this is the same model i had in a 50hp it was on a chase boat up north and i had it shipped down , stripped the head of not to bad but looked like something had damaged the inside of the combustion chamber ,checked with a local mech he said nothing to worry about changed all the sacrificial anodes out and cleaned as much as i could up with a stainless wire wheel on my dremel put it all back together and ran like a top start first crank every time .

ThatBoatGuy I have a pontoon boat with Johnson 90hp 2 stroke. My problem is that three different boat mechanic can’t figure out why motor will throttle up with water phones on , but when I the boat is in water and motor is under a load will not. Starts right up and idles fine. Any thoughts?
@ct17624 жыл бұрын
@@robbiehopper4121 sounds like your stator or kill wire is shorting to ground somewhere. check and clean all ground connections. take the carbs off and make sure they are both clean, paying special attention to the low speed passages. then do a link n synch according to the factory service manual . i've fixed these issues many times. the problem now is its harder and harder to find a good 2 stroke mechanic.

Since you had the head off, why not put fresh, new rings on the pistons? Also, why not get the water channel(s) area in the head coated? (Zinc/other) When you/if you sync the carbs do you use a vacuum gauge? BTW your boat really seems to like that motor!🙂👍🏻

I'm cracking up over here.. can't believe you removed the powerhead to paint it.... but good for you! Here's my question. You removed the carbs and flywheel before removing the powerhead then during installation you installed the carbs and flywheel prior to installing the powerhead back on the motor??? A bit confused? Could you have removed the powerhead with flywheel and carbs still attached? I've never removed a powerhead before that's why I'm asking.
